Chapter 249: Chapter 222: A Book is Missing
Shire had always felt he had no time to rest these days. After all, there were many things in the tribe that required his attention. For the goblin Race, and indeed for all living things in the forest, every day was a struggle for food, survival, and reproduction.
He had once joked to himself that for his tribe to enjoy a "work six days, rest one" schedule, they would need to be free of enemies and have no worries about food and drink.
But now, here was a prince whose people were in danger, yet he insisted on adhering to his own rigid daily schedule. It was a real eye-opener for Shire.
What was even more incredible was that he’d even mentioned "compensatory time off." Shire really wanted to sit the man down and discuss scheduling systems and position management.
But then he thought about how the Prince was also completely dedicated during his "work hours," and he was left speechless again. ’He treats being a prince like a profession, and by the looks of it, he’s pretty good at it.’
To be fair, Pazani did his job well, demonstrating his dedication to his people. Every word he spoke and every action he took was based on his status, all contributing to the development of his race.
But Shire just found it all a bit strange. ’I work myself to the bone for my tribe and for myself, and I even get woken up at night by a Demon Lord. There’s just no comparison.’
"What do you need me to do next?" Pazani asked, spreading his hands, seemingly oblivious to Shire’s stare.
"Just a moment. I’m going to introduce you to a Ghost Witch," Shire said slowly after composing himself for a few seconds.
"A Ghost Witch?"
"That’s right. She’ll be very interested in this stuff." Shire pointed to the package on the ground. "Don’t worry, the Ghost Witch won’t bring any harm to you or your people."
At this time, Agatha should still be with Lame Leg, calibrating that "Rune Mortar." But these Pure White Stones on the ground, etched with unique patterns, seemed to be a new form of Rune Speech. Shire didn’t know what it was called. From Pazani’s earlier description, this Rune Speech seemed highly destructive, causing the Pure White Stones to shatter after use.
But he believed Agatha would be very interested in the history of the Naga Race, perhaps even treating it like a new toy.
’It’s just a shame she can’t dive to the bottom of Darren Lake to see that half of the lost City of Ten Thousand Races.’ Shire shook his head with some regret. To be honest, he also wanted to see what the underwater city looked like.
’Maybe there will be a chance in the future, but that would require completely defeating the Feathered Serpent Evil God.’ He looked at the somewhat bewildered Naga Prince before him and suddenly felt that this goal seemed a bit difficult to achieve.
Just as he was about to have Shan Xi Ao go and tell Agatha to hurry over, a commotion arose in the distance. Shire turned to look and saw the Druid, Sofia, walking over while covering her mouth and yawning. Beside her, Bai Mao was gazing at the Druid with star-struck eyes, chattering away about something.
...
"Thank you so much," Shire said, pouring a cup of "Red Bull" for Sofia, who sat across the table from him.
"What is this?" Sofia picked up the wooden cup and stared at the yellow liquid inside. "This doesn’t smell like ’Golden Flower Tea.’ Didn’t that little goblin say you had Golden Flower Tea?"
The corner of Shire’s mouth twitched. ’I knew letting Shan Xi Ao go with them was a bad idea. That loudmouth is always trying to make his big brother look good.’ "This is a special drink we have here," Shire said immediately, a smile on his face. "Little John mentioned before that you’re always tired, so I thought this might suit you."
Sofia leaned in and sniffed it. "There’s no pungent smell. It just looks like a drink brewed from some ordinary plant powder."
"As expected of someone from the Earth and Life Church," Shire said at the opportune moment. "It’s brewed from a plant found in the forest, ground into a powder. It’s incredibly effective at waking you up and clearing your head, and it has no side effects. We call it Red Bull."
Shire didn’t mention that Red Bull was a type of mushroom. He was afraid the Druid across from him would get the wrong impression. On one hand, some Evil Mages did use various mushrooms to create dangerous potions. On the other hand, Sofia was bound to ask about the Fallen Druid soon, and telling her that Red Bull was a mushroom right now would likely cause some misunderstandings.
Sofia took a small sip, then closed her eyes to experience the feeling of the Red Bull going down. After a moment, she opened her eyes and nodded. "It’s quite good. I can feel its strange effect, but the flavor is a bit bland."
"You can mix it with other flavorings, like honey or milk." As Shire spoke, he picked up a small plate of honey from the side of the table and placed it between them.
Sofia directly grabbed a small chunk and dropped it into her Red Bull. "I didn’t expect you to have honey here. Then again, for a goblin who has Golden Flower Tea, honey probably isn’t a big deal."
"So, Miss Druid, how is the female goblin from my tribe doing now?" Shire asked, holding his cup.
"She’s out of danger. I used a few techniques, plus some Healing Magic, and now she just needs to rest for a while," Sofia said calmly. She leaned back in the high-backed chair, her gaze appraising the solid wood table in front of her. The table seemed to hold more of her interest than the female goblin she had just helped give birth.
"If it weren’t for these... special surroundings, I would have thought I was chatting with you in a reception room." She gently patted the tabletop, feeling the texture of the solid wood. Her sense of touch told her this furniture was likely made by humans; the simple carvings on it were beyond the skill of goblins.
Shire didn’t answer her right away. He was contemplating how to talk to this Miss Druid. After all, Little John had discreetly told him that he hadn’t revealed Shire’s identity as Shire Merlot.
"I assume Little John told you why I was looking for you." Sofia skipped any pleasantries, took a sip of Red Bull, and asked directly, "You defeated and killed the Fallen Druid. I need to take back all of his belongings."
"Alright." Shire set down his cup, then stood up and walked to the side. He took a cloth bundle from a low cabinet. The bundle was squarish, looking like it contained some books and notes.
"It’s all in here." He placed the bundle on the table and calmly watched her open it and look through the contents.
"The *Earth Covenant*," Sofia said, flipping through the rather thick scripture. ’So many interpretations and annotations... Vissans really was devout before.’ "The *Alchemy Manual* and the *Laboratory Supplies List*?"
She quickly checked the items in the bundle, then soon put them down. "Little John said you burned the *Experimental Notes*?"
"Yes. It was very evil. I didn’t want those notes to circulate and cause any negative influence," Shire nodded.
"Then," Sofia paused for a moment before asking again, "what about the book *Mushroom Spores and Life Form Variants*?"
Shire’s eyes narrowed. He said, "Sorry, but the book you’re talking about wasn’t in that laboratory."
