The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone
Chapter 106: Unsparing ConfrontationChapter 106: Chapter 106: Unsparing Confrontation
Seeing that Xu Qingsui had more to say, Qiu Fang felt a surge of killing intent.
But with Lu Jingyu watching him with a faint smile from the side, he couldn’t say anything too harsh.
Qiu Fang suppressed his dissatisfaction and forced a smile. "I wonder what else Guide Xu wishes to know?"
"Elder Qiu just mentioned that you elders built the Heiyu Alliance from the ground up and that everyone is dedicated to it. However, from what I’ve seen, that’s not the case." As she spoke, Xu Qingsui shook her head in disapproval.
"What makes you say that?" Qiu Fang asked, puzzled.
"Hah!"
Xu Qingsui scoffed, a hint of mockery on her face. "Before this visit, Captain Lu already took me to see the other elders. Even those who don’t fully support him, or who hold personal grudges against him, offered their help when they heard about the casualties. There was only one exception..."
Xu Qingsui deliberately glanced at Qiu Fang, her gaze seeming to see right through him.
"Not only did this person refuse to help, but they seemed to take pleasure in our misfortune. I get the feeling they acted this way because they have powerful backing. Elder Qiu, it seems some elders aren’t so dedicated to the Alliance after all! What’s your opinion on who might be backing this person?"
Her tone was dripping with sarcasm, all but outright accusing Qiu Fang of being that backer.
A flicker of awkwardness crossed Qiu Fang’s face, but he quickly composed himself.
"Which elder might Guide Xu be referring to?"
"You don’t know? I heard you and Elder Wang are quite close. I naturally assumed you were his backer."
Xu Qingsui’s words were so blunt that Qiu Fang was left momentarily speechless.
Beside her, Lu Jingyu couldn’t hold back any longer and burst out laughing.
’How had I never noticed this sharp side of hers before?’
’This feels so damn good!’
"Guide Xu, you have quite the sense of humor. Why would Elder Wang and I ever do anything to harm the Alliance! What you mentioned must have been a misunderstanding. Elder Wang loves to joke around; you must have read too much into something he said. As for the medical supplies, he’s already asked me to inform you that he will have them sent over later with the men I’m arranging."
"Is that so? That would be wonderful. But I hope *you’re* not the one joking, because I certainly wasn’t."
Xu Qingsui raised an eyebrow and shot Lu Jingyu a look.
Lu Jingyu smiled faintly and finally stepped in. "Elder Qiu, Guide Xu has a rather playful personality and loves to kid around. Her words were a bit harsh just now, so please don’t take them to heart."
"Since you’ve already begun making arrangements, we won’t impose on you any further. On behalf of the injured, I thank you and Elder Wang."
Qiu Fang smiled. "Nonsense. I was going to ask you to stay for a meal, but with so many people lying in the infirmary, I’m sure no one has much of an appetite. I won’t insist."
"I’ll head over later myself to check on them. It’s important to comfort the injured and let them know we old-timers still care about the Alliance."
Lu Jingyu simply smiled without a word and led Xu Qingsui away.
The moment they were out of Qiu Fang’s house, Xu Qingsui burst into unrestrained laughter.
"Anyone can spout the same pompous nonsense as that sly old fox. But seeing him so flustered? That was priceless."
Lu Jingyu watched her with a smile, his eyes filled with adoration.
"That was satisfying for you, I’m sure. But aren’t you afraid he’ll hold a grudge and try to get back at you in secret?"
Xu Qingsui shrugged. "You only live once, right? Might as well have some fun. What’s the point if you’re constantly worried about this and that? I’ll just have to be a little more careful for a few days and watch out for any dirty tricks!"
Lu Jingyu was captivated by her carefree and cheerful demeanor. He subconsciously reached out, tucking a stray strand of hair from her forehead. "Don’t be afraid," he whispered. "Say what you want, do what you want. I’ll protect you."
Lu Jingyu’s sudden, intimate gesture made Xu Qingsui’s mind go blank for a second, and she didn’t quite catch what he’d said.
"What did you say?"
Lu Jingyu shook his head. "It’s nothing. You were brilliant back there. You even dragged Elder Wang into it. Now he’ll have to contribute whether he wants to or not."
Xu Qingsui smiled. "We’ve made the rounds to all the elders now. Judging by Elder Qiu’s tone, you don’t have to worry about the medicine anymore. Are we heading to the infirmary to check on everyone now?"
Lu Jingyu shook his head gently. "No. We need to deal with He Sheng’s matter next. Besides, the infirmary is already overflowing with people. I don’t want to get in the way."
Hearing this, the wheels in Xu Qingsui’s head began to turn. "In that case, let’s go see Chen Yunfei again, shall we? I want to give it a try."
Her eyes were full of determination as she spoke. Lu Jingyu knew she had made up her mind, so he didn’t try to dissuade her.
He had his own selfish reasons, too. If she succeeded, it would put a great weight off his mind.
He agreed, and the two of them returned to the residence.
This time, as they reached the door, Chen Chang’an’s voice boomed from inside. "I’ve already sent the supplies over! You don’t need to come here to pester me. You’re not welcome. Get out!"
"Elder Chen, we have enough medicine now. I’m here for Yun Fei. Guide Xu wants to try and break the seal on his consciousness."
Lu Jingyu explained their purpose. The room fell silent. After a moment, Chen Chang’an spoke again. "Forget it. I don’t trust the person you brought with you!"
Xu Qingsui shot Lu Jingyu an awkward glance, preparing to speak up for herself.
Lu Jingyu gently held her back and took a step forward. "You may not trust me, but you can’t let Yun Fei miss this chance to wake up."
"I’m sure you’ve heard about Guide Xu by now. She’s the first person ever able to completely soothe me and pull me back from a berserk state. A power like that speaks for itself. Don’t you want to give it one more try?"
The room fell silent once more. After waiting a moment, Xu Qingsui felt she really ought to say something.
But just as she was hesitating, about to speak, the door burst open with a BANG, and a figure flew out.
"Lu Jingyu, if you want her to go inside, you’ll have to get through me first!"
Chen Chang’an roared as he flew toward Lu Jingyu. Without a word, Lu Jingyu pushed Xu Qingsui toward the room.
Xu Qingsui had been worried that Chen Chang’an and Lu Jingyu were about to actually fight, but when Lu Jingyu pushed her and she saw the open door, she instantly understood his intention.
Ignoring the confrontation between the two men, she quickly ran inside the room.
Chen Chang’an, still in mid-air, caught a glimpse of Xu Qingsui’s retreating figure. A flicker of conflict crossed his face before he drew his weapon and lunged at Lu Jingyu.
With a WHOOSH, the weapon cut through the air, aimed straight for Lu Jingyu’s face.
