Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Sudden Change, S-Class Mutation

A giant, serpentine Mutant stood erect behind him.

It was the serpentine Mutant’s tail that had just sent him flying.

The serpentine Mutant had an inverted triangular head. Its eyes grew on either side of its skull, and a pair of dark green, vertical pupils emanated a dangerous aura.

In the center of its head grew a prominent, flared nose. When it breathed, its nostrils flapped like two large cattail fans.

A mouth like a thin slit stretched all the way to the bottom of its eye sockets.

It opened slightly, and a long, narrow tongue darted out. The tongue was scarlet red with a black line running down its center.

The tongue was covered in barbs. As it flicked up and down, the barbs quivered like countless tiny tongues of their own.

On either side of its tongue were two pairs of sharp fangs that glinted coldly. One could faintly see they were coated in dark green venom.

Looking at the head alone, it was clearly the form of a mutated great snake.

It was called "serpentine" because of its even stranger body.

Its entire torso was covered in scales like a pangolin’s.

When its body moved, one could even see the scales shimmer and shift, as if they were breathing.

Furthermore, several pairs of five-fingered claws grew from the parts of its torso closest to the ground.

The tips of the claws were razor-sharp, and right now, they were driven directly into the earth like ground stakes.

Shen Ling’an sized up the Mutant from head to toe, and cold sweat instantly beaded on his skin.

’What’s going on? No one said there would be an S Level Mutant.’

As sweat poured down his face, the Mutant whipped its massive tail, and a RUSTLING sound arose.

Immediately after, smaller serpentine Mutants, several times smaller than the main one, crawled out from the cracked and collapsed buildings.

The sight of the first serpentine Mutant had already left the other team members frozen in place. Now, seeing several smaller Mutants crawl out finally snapped them out of it.

"Alert! Alert! Stay sharp and prepare for battle!"

A cry of alarm came from the crowd, and only then did the members finally raise their weapons, ready to strike at any moment.

The sudden appearance of the serpentine Mutant made the atmosphere even more tense than before.

Even the members who had originally just come to watch the show now drew their weapons, preparing to face the enemy.

Shen Ling’an was already soaked in sweat.

The giant Mutant was right before him, and the oppressive aura it radiated made his face flush and his breathing quicken.

But behind him, the team members had all assumed combat stances.

As their team captain, he had no other choice.

Shen Ling’an pushed himself up, but his legs were weak. It took him several tries to get back on his feet.

HISS!

The serpentine Mutant flicked its tongue at him. The sound of its tongue lashing through the air was exceptionally piercing to the ear.

’Damn it!’

’What is the meaning of this?’

’Do they want to help me establish my authority or not?’

’If I could easily take care of this big guy, would I even need their help?’

His calves trembled as Shen Ling’an cursed inwardly.

But it had already come to this; cursing was useless.

He had nowhere to run. He could only bite the bullet and charge forward.

Recalling that he had the ability to fight an S Level Mutant in the instance before, Shen Ling’an decided to risk it all.

But then he remembered that Xu Ruming had been there last time, providing him with a degree of soothing support, and his face darkened.

He hadn’t been able to... perform these past few days, and in his displeasure, he had vented his anger and desire on Xu Ruming in another way.

As a result, it wasn’t convenient for her to be seen in public recently, so she hadn’t come with him this time.

’If I go berserk later, even if I take care of this Mutant, there will be a huge risk.’

Frustration welled up in his heart, but the serpentine Mutant wasn’t about to give him any more time to let his thoughts wander.

HISSS!

RUSTLE! RUSTLE! RUSTLE!

The serpentine Mutant flicked its tongue and whipped its tail, leading the smaller Mutants in a charge toward Shen Ling’an and the other team members.

Shen Ling’an’s brow tightened. He could only grip his Emei dagger-like weapons and charge forward.

The massive head flew directly toward Shen Ling’an.

Shen Ling’an raised his weapons high, preparing to pierce the snake’s head.

But before he could get close, the scarlet tongue with the black line lashed out. The moment it made contact, it coiled around Shen Ling’an and lifted him up.

Caught completely off guard, Shen Ling’an was sent flying, ensnared by the tongue.

Shen Ling’an was dumbfounded. In his panic, he threw the weapon in his left hand.

But his aim was off; the weapon fell to the ground without even touching the Mutant.

At a time like this, Shen Ling’an couldn’t afford to be embarrassed.

He could only watch as the snake’s head grew larger and larger in his vision.

He could even smell a foul, fishy stench drilling into his nostrils.

’The more it’s like this, the more I have to stay calm. Otherwise, it’ll just be a repeat of what just happened.’

Forcing himself to stay calm, he waited until he was close to the Mutant, then used all his strength to viciously stab at it with the weapon still in his hand.

He had grown proficient with this weapon over this period.

Every time he used it, it was like stabbing a knife into tofu, easily slicing through his enemies’ skin.

Shen Ling’an had been confident, but with a CLANG of metal on metal, his weapon struck the Mutant’s skin without leaving so much as a scratch.

Shen Ling’an was completely stunned. Since obtaining this weapon, he had never encountered a situation like this.

While he was dazed, the tongue coiling around his body began to pull him toward the creature’s mouth.

The glint of venom about to drip from its fangs finally entered his sight, snapping Shen Ling’an back to his senses.

’This isn’t the time to be dazed. I have to save my own life first.’

Looking at the tongue wrapped around him, he finally realized he could aim for a different target.

He immediately stabbed out with his weapon again.

Without the scale-like armor to protect it, the weapon plunged smoothly into the Mutant’s tongue.

A gush of foul-smelling blood spewed out. The Mutant, in agony, violently flung its tongue, sending Shen Ling’an’s body flying with it.

The feeling of falling at high speed made Shen Ling’an realize this was bad, but it was still better than being swallowed whole by the Mutant.

The cold wind rushing past him as he was thrown finally cleared his head.

’It’s already come to this. Thinking about anything else is pointless. I have to figure out how to survive.’

As for everything else, he first had to stay alive. Only then would he have the chance to find someone and demand an explanation.

After calming down, Shen Ling’an curled his body into a ball, protecting his vital points at the moment of impact with the ground.

A wave of pain washed over him from the impact. He froze for only a moment before gritting his teeth and climbing to his feet, watching the Mutant warily.

Because of the intense pain, the Mutant was constantly shaking its tongue, trying to alleviate its suffering.

Looking at the armored scales covering its body, Shen Ling’an guessed that the serpentine Mutant’s weakness was probably its tongue.

If that was the case, landing another blow wouldn’t be so easy.
