Auric and Katarina ultimately visited Maya, who had also finished her lesson.

"Yo. What’s wrong?!" Maya noticed something unusual in their behavior.

Katarina was the one explaining the situation, "Okay, here’s the problem."

She first explained Madam Shelly’s earlier actions.

Maya couldn’t help but cross her arms. "I see. It should be because of what happened previously, right? I mean, I did it from time to time, but I never really made things difficult for everyone. It was just a joke. Like how this guy flirted with me right after he came to college."

"You’re still holding a grudge over that? I was just joking around, you know?" Auric scratched the back of his head. He still remembered the time she showed her killing intent, and he had played around and touched her cheek after using his Void Step.

Katarina just gave him a side eye, but returned to the topic right away. "Well, that’s the problem. If this continues, Auric might use that one ploy—quitting the training program."

"Are you sure?" Maya asked again. "Does she already know everything?"

"Yeah." Auric nodded. Katarina basically knew as much as Maya, if not more, considering he had asked her to investigate his father.

Maya nodded in understanding. "If you choose to quit right now, you won’t be able to get those elements, you know? Those are quite strong elements, you know that, right?"

"I do. Well, I’m not planning to quit, but the supervisor doesn’t know that."

"Oh! You want to bluff." Maya looked down, pondering. "It’s indeed a good trap. The supervisor doesn’t know that, but there’s no telling whether it’s possible to kick her out or not."

"Yeah. I’m just showing her that this country is not my only option." Auric shook his head helplessly.

"Fair enough." Maya tilted her head left and right as if she were processing everything in her mind. "With this, your relationship with Madam Shelly won’t be very good."

"I don’t mind. I’m not intending to befriend anyone."

"Still, having one friend is better than having one enemy."

"I know that, but someone who can backstab you at any time is worse than a hundred enemies."

Maya sighed. "All right. For the time being, I will smooth things out for you. The instructors are going to have dinner together all the time to give their reports about the training camp."

"Thank you, Teacher."

Katarina said, "Still, should we do something? I want to make sure that Auric is not harmed in the process."

"No, you don’t have to do anything for now. First, I’m going to smooth things out with the instructors. I will see if there are any instructors who still look hostile and tell you about it. Maybe you can look into them after that, Katarina. See if they’re being hostile because of that or for any other reason. There is a chance that one of the instructors is also working with the organization."

"Ah!" Katarina almost forgot about it. "They’re trying to sow discord between him and the other instructors."

"Yep. If you find anything, report it to me directly. I may ask an adjudicator to handle this problem right away."

"Understood." Katarina smiled.

"It’s going to be hard on you, Katarina. By serving this guy, you won’t realize how many problems you’re going to face." Maya smirked.

Katarina chuckled. "I’ve prepared for it. Besides, the pay is going to be worth it. Isn’t that right, boss?"

"Of course. That’s my principle, after all."

"That’s why I like you." Katarina winked playfully. "Hard work pays off... You truly make that saying true."

"All right. You can do your usual stuff for now and just prepare for some harassment for the next two to three days."

"Understood." Auric nodded calmly.

Maya waved her hand, gesturing for them to leave.

"I guess this is over. Hopefully, the situation will calm down after this." Katarina sighed.

"Yeah. I don’t exactly want trouble, but I’m not afraid of it." Auric nodded. "Just be careful for the next few days. If things get too dangerous, leave me behind."

Katarina chuckled. "I’m not leaving you behind. Don’t worry about that."

"That’s an order, you know?"

"I might be your subordinate, but you accept me because I know what’s best for you. What’s best for you might not be the best for me. Besides, if it happens that way, you will just owe me so much since I sacrificed myself for you. My family will benefit from it if you somehow survive." Katarina winked.

"You truly know how to take advantage of that." Auric chuckled.

"Of course. Your benefit comes first since you’re going to repay that. My family’s benefit comes next. In exchange, I have nothing to fear." Katarina shrugged.

"Thank you."

Katarina smiled. "How about throwing in a little bonus, Boss? Maybe when you reach my rank, you can publish the first technique for my element."

"You got it." Auric chuckled.

Suddenly, Lindwurm warned him. "Auric. Be careful."

"Hmm?" Auric raised his head, finding Supervisor Jacob walking toward him.

Katarina saw Auric’s sudden change of expression and followed his gaze. Without hesitation, Katarina stepped forward and raised her hand, trying to stop Supervisor Jacob from approaching Auric. "What do you want, Supervisor?"

Supervisor Jacob was a bit surprised that Katarina was actually willing to put her life on the line for Auric.

Still, it didn’t matter to him at the moment. He came to Auric for a different reason.

"Hey, uh..." Supervisor Jacob scratched the back of his head while looking away. After a few seconds, he turned back to Auric and continued, "Sorry for earlier. It wasn’t my intention to do that, but I guess it ended up making the atmosphere tense.

"While it wasn’t my intention, I still indirectly caused the situation, so I’d like to apologize for that.

"I’m going to try to ease the tension between you and the instructors for the next few days. I’d like to warn them, but it might end up causing unexpected problems for you in the near future, so it’s better to de-escalate the situation slowly.

"I will compensate you in any way I can later on, but for now, I just want to apologize and take care of the problem. Please don’t hold a grudge against the other instructors for this.

"I know for a fact that a genius usually ends up in one of two situations, especially one who doesn’t have a huge family background.

"Some people would like to recruit you, but some people would like to kill you so that their enemies couldn’t get you either.

"I should have known that you would experience something like this as well, especially with all the news about you.

"It was insensitive of me, so I hope you can be patient for the next few days. I’ll try to fix it."

Auric raised his eyebrows. As Lindwurm said, some were immature enough to try to take him down, but there were indeed people like Mr. Green or Supervisor Jacob.

He intended to take responsibility for the situation and had the courage to admit when he was in the wrong.

Auric carefully pondered this matter. "If the situation is resolved, I will let go of my grudge. However, I may dislike trouble, but I don’t fear it. My principle is equivalent exchange. If they’re going to harm me, I will definitely repay them in kind, no matter what kind of trouble I get into after that."

Supervisor Jacob nodded in understanding. "Okay, I will keep that in mind. I will definitely compensate you for this, so please bear with it for a few days."

"I understand. Well, my teacher was planning to do the same thing, so you may want to talk to her."

"You got it." Supervisor Jacob gave him a warning. "Some instructors might come looking for you more aggressively for the next few days."

"Don’t worry. No matter how hard they try to find me, they won’t be able to find me." Auric nodded. "I can do that much."

Supervisor Jacob smiled. "In that case, I’ll make sure that the situation doesn’t get as tense as it was earlier today."

"Yes." Auric politely nodded and walked away. Katarina politely bowed to Supervisor Jacob before chasing after Auric. "So, you’re going to drop this matter?"

"If the situation calms down, then yes. I will just accept the compensation from Supervisor Jacob."

Lindwurm secretly smiled. It looked like the situation didn’t reach the worst-case scenario. He knew why the president chose Supervisor Jacob to lead the instructors.

Besides, this incident had helped Auric mature a bit more. It was good enough for Lindwurm.

"By the way, can I ask you to gather materials from the eight elements? It’ll be good to have the unique element materials, but it’s hard to procure them, so getting a few would be preferable. Still, it’s fine even if you get none."

"Oh?!" Katarina looked up. "Any specific rank?"

"From Rank 1 to Rank 3. I will transfer you 100 million for this. Just spend that amount."

"Sure." Katarina knew she could increase that amount using her own money, but Auric wouldn’t like it. Auric didn’t mind she took advantage of his principle, but it was only for some small things or an unavoidable situation. If she took advantage of him in this situation, Auric might end up putting up a wall between them after that.

So, she intended to use only the money he had given her.

"Still, I’ve been meaning to ask you this question. Why did you hide us? We could have run away, you know?" Katarina asked.

"Can’t I just protect you guys?" Auric smiled.

"Oh!" Katarina placed her hand on her chest. "If you dropped ’guys’ from your sentence, like "Can’t I just protect you?" with such a sincere smile, I would be love-struck. You’re going to be responsible if I can’t find anyone to marry in the future."

Auric couldn’t help but chuckle. "You really love to play like this."

Katarina stuck out her tongue. "It’s fun. It’s also perfect for cosplay, right? If I cosplay in the future, I will be able to act well."

"I will say it again: your future husband will be lucky since life won’t be boring."

"Hahaha. Well, I guess this is where we part. I have to complete my task now."

"Yep. We will regroup in two hours. I’ll use my ability and turn the area into a safe house."

"Will it work? I mean, can you really hide our presence?"

"Don’t underestimate my unique element."

Katarina didn’t know how many unique elements Auric actually possessed, but she knew how mysterious unique elements could be. The ability to hide their presence might be related to one of his unique elements.

So Katarina nodded, trusting him. "OK. See you later."

"Yep, see you!" Auric waved his hand. Once Katarina left, Auric’s expression turned serious as he asked inwardly, ’By the way, Lindwurm, what do you think about Supervisor Jacob? Should I threaten him a bit?’
