"The change? What kind of change are you talking about?" Katarina was a bit curious about Auric, especially about his sensitivity. She knew it was abnormal, but she didn’t know exactly how abnormal it was.
"Well, it’s complicated. Besides, I haven’t confirmed all the changes, so I will need to test them a bit more."
"Will you be alright? I mean, the evolution master test is supposed to be next week, right?"
"Yeah, yeah. I should be fine. For the test, this is enough." Auric smiled. "I’m going to ask for leave soon, so you will come with me."
"Sure. As for the materials you want, they have been sorted out. They will bring the materials next Friday. I’ll ask my family to receive it first and bring it to you the next day."
"Okay." Auric nodded in understanding. "Let’s go back, shall we?"
"Yup."
Now that Auric had evolved, he couldn’t help but wonder what kind of benefit he would get after upgrading his eyes completely.
He knew that the new ability would be useful, but it wasn’t extremely useful. Besides, he knew that he would see something else once all his elements reached Rank 3.
The instructors continued conducting the raid with unpredictable timing, forcing the students to remain vigilant at all times. It was exhausting both mentally and physically, but the students managed to rest as much as possible during the days when there were no raids.
Once the first seven days were up, the second batch of instructors took over. Fortunately, there was no one like Madam Shelly in the second batch.
Auric coordinated with the others and went to the instructors depending on their respective needs.
While it was true that the training camp was exhausting, the students knew that they were improving by leaps and bounds. Their progress was even faster than during their usual training, even though they didn’t hunt beasts or get any resources.
After all, the insights of the instructors were extremely special. They also received direct training from them to suit their own specialties.
Of course, among the students, Auric’s group remained untouched. Some other students also managed to escape all this time, but their groups weren’t so lucky.
The day before he left, he visited Supervisor Jacob with Katarina.
"Supervisor Jacob." Auric greeted him politely.
"Yeah? What’s wrong? Do you want to take my lesson?" Supervisor Jacob asked before looking around, only to find Auric and Katarina. "You need to bring your other teammates if you want to take my lesson."
"No, I actually want to request leave."
"Ah!" Supervisor Jacob almost forgot about it. "The evolution master test? I heard that a few students are going there as well."
"Yeah." Auric nodded. "I would like to leave from Friday to Sunday."
"The test is on Sunday, but you want to leave starting tomorrow?"
"Yes. I would like to focus on my studies for the next few days."
"Right? Will that be enough?"
"Of course." Auric didn’t need much time to study about the beast materials, as he had already studied all the materials up to those of Rank 5 beasts because of his father.
Most of the time, he studied other conditions that might occur during treatment.
Most people took a lot of time to study both the materials and how to treat the patients. However, Auric had covered the first problem, while the second problem wasn’t exactly a problem for him.
His element control was excellent, and he could see the flow of energy. As a result, Auric had no problem with treating the patients.
Supervisor Jacob nodded in understanding. "Okay then. You are permitted to leave. What about you?"
Supervisor Jacob’s gaze shifted to Katarina.
"I’m accompanying him as his assistant."
"Whoa? You..." Supervisor Jacob pointed to Katarina and then to Auric, gesturing as if they were somehow related.
"I am his assistant." Katarina nodded. "The test might not require any assistance, but there are still other things, including helping with the preparation for the test."
"Fair enough." Supervisor Jacob gave a nod of approval. "Okay, you can go as well. Just let me remind you to be back on Sunday evening."
"Understood," both of them answered at the same time.
Supervisor Jacob waved his hand, gesturing for them to leave.
Now that they had gotten permission, Auric and Katarina packed up.
After saying goodbye to Ellia and Vera, they booked the first flight to the nearest city to the Alps ruins.
Auric confirmed the plan with Lunaria first. After getting her approval, Auric and Katarina headed to the Unique Valley for one last time. This time, he finally finished gathering all the energy required to evolve.
Just like the previous evolution, he had to leave the ruins and finish the evolution outside.
However, it didn’t take long for him to gather the last bit of energy required to evolve, so Katarina didn’t have to protect him for long.
Since it was the second element to reach Rank 3, he didn’t have much else to confirm.
’As expected, I can single out the unique element now.’ Auric couldn’t help but look at the Unique Valley while trying to single out that element.
Sadly, nothing changed. Auric just stuck out his tongue while thinking, ’Of course, there won’t be any change. The unique element is the same. It doesn’t have any ratings. The Alps ruins are close to here, but my water and wind elements haven’t reached Rank 3. The Mysterious Cave ruins aren’t exactly a place where he could sneak in. I guess I will just play it safe here.’
Auric waved to Katarina. "We’re done here. Let’s go."
"Congrats." Katarina smiled and waved back.
"Thanks. Two out of nine elements... It’s not enough."
"You’re already abnormal enough to achieve this level at such a speed, you know?" Katarina sighed.
Auric chuckled. "That’s true."
"So, about the day after tomorrow..."
"The test will start in the morning, so I guess you need to come early. Can this person be trusted?"
"Yes. Besides, I’ve told her that you’re planning to surprise someone."
"Okay then." Auric nodded in understanding.
...
The next day, Lindwurm couldn’t help but cheer. "Yahooo! This is all for me, right?"
"Of course." Auric smiled.
Lindwurm spent the rest of the day eating while Auric continued to review all the relevant studies on the evolution master test.
Finally, the day of the test had arrived.
"How do I look?" Auric asked while pointing at himself as the makeup artist continued styling his face.
"Quite horrible, but it’s not exactly disgusting. It’s at least enough to make people uncomfortable." Katarina was quite satisfied with the result as well.
"That’s good enough." Auric nodded. "Thanks."
"Let’s go. We’re going to surprise the hell out of someone." Katarina grinned.
"Right?" Auric chuckled.
He and Katarina left the hotel, but Katarina returned to the university not long after while Auric wore a mask that covered most of the makeup while still showing part of it.
This was probably the first time he had entered the headquarters of the Evolution Association in this country.
The size of the building couldn’t be compared to any of its branches.
There were even more people there, not just evolution masters, but also patients. They knew the standard of evolution masters in the headquarters was higher.
Those with enough money would usually choose to travel all the way to the capital city to see them.
That was why the headquarters never had any problems finding people for the test.
Still, because of the test, the headquarters seemed to be even more crowded than usual.
A lot of students were participating in the test. Most of the people standing around the lobby were applying for the bronze-grade tests.
Auric walked toward the counter, finding the blonde staff member Chief Lucas was talking about.
Auric took out his silver badge as well as his qualification card. "Hi. I’d like to confirm my participation for the gold-grade test."
The staff looked surprised at first, but her poker face returned right after, as she had been informed about Auric.
She smiled politely and acted as if nothing had happened. "Certainly. The test itself is divided into five parts. Would you like to hear the explanation?"
"I thought you weren’t supposed to tell me that. I mean, isn’t the test different each year?"
"That is limited to the bronze-grade tests. We don’t want anyone to cheat just to become an evolution master. In the silver-grade tests, there is usually not much change. For the gold-grade tests, you won’t experience such changes because you’ve learned the skill set as an evolution master."
"I see." Auric nodded in understanding. "Please."
"Understood. The first part of the test is a written test covering the materials as well as theory related to the treatment or condition.
"The second part is related to sensitivity. You will need to find the amount of energy in the materials and humans present.
"The third part is control. You will need to control your energy and pass the test.
"The fourth part is treatment. People with injuries related to your elements will have to be treated. There are a lot of different injuries, but we’re working with many hospitals in this city and nearby cities. Most of the time, as long as you treat three to five people, you will pass.
"Last but not least, the final part is the evolution itself. This is the same no matter how high your rank is. Once you evolve someone with an extreme element, you’ll be able to receive a three-star gold badge. Because stronger humans are harder to find, it’s mandatory that you register a month before the test itself."
"I see." Auric had asked Chief Lucas for his help, so it wasn’t exactly a problem. He should register himself next time. "Thank you. Is that all?"
"Yes. I’ve also confirmed your participation. Allow me to take you to your exam venue."
Auric nodded as he followed the staff. As soon as they entered the lift, the staff couldn’t help but ask, "Can I ask for a selfie with you?"
"Ah?" Auric was startled at first, but the staff immediately explained, "I’m sorry. I just can’t help but ask. I’m a big fan."
She had been containing her excitement while registering Auric without compromising his identity, so Auric accepted. "Sure, if you don’t mind the makeup, that is."
"Of course not." The staff hurriedly took out her phone and took some pictures together.
Once they reached the floor, the staff immediately calmed herself and politely guided him as if nothing had happened.
Auric was amused inwardly, but at least the staff handled the work smoothly.
She opened the door for him.
There were a total of 47 people inside besides him.
The number was much smaller than he expected, considering that this was the headquarters.
Nevertheless, the test was about to begin.
