The Golden Lord has a perverted SSS-rank summoning system!
Chapter 390: WAR (02)After a long and hasty march through the treacherous Eternal Forest, Goldenveil’s army finally reached the designated site for their first camp.
More than ten thousand men fanned out across the clearing, pitching tents, digging trenches, and driving sharp stakes into the damp earth.
Hammer blows echoed everywhere, mingling with the clanking of chains, the clatter of armor, and the low murmur of soldiers preparing the ground for the coming battle.
In the central tent, Ethan and his high-ranking officers finally gathered.
Doran, Thalion, Theron, and Laine—the latter a quiet but loyal and competent man, recently chosen as leader of the Second Legion—took their places around the large table.
Cain and Vaelith were also present, along with the leaders of the many cohorts who, having no reserved seats, followed the meeting on their feet.
Ethan, his body clad in the God-Slayer armor, sat casually at the head of the table, with Evelyn and Mireya occupying the seats beside him.
Behind him, lined up like a personal guard, stood his mother’s five disciples, along with the fifty third-stage mages who had accompanied the march.
Spread from end to end across the table lay a massive map crafted by Amelia’s mages, their reconnaissance spells having charted the entire region with impressive detail and precision.
Three marble pieces rested upon it.
One bore the symbol of a goblin’s head, another the symbol of a sword, and the third—positioned exactly where they stood—displayed the symbol of a crown.
The allied army was already moving at a forced march, now no more than five kilometers behind the orcs. Forty thousand men in total.
"We have scouts tracking both the orc army and the coalition army," Doran began, resting his calloused hands on the edge of the table.
"If they maintain their current pace, they’ll arrive here tomorrow morning. But they probably won’t attack right away—at least, not the coalition army."
His weathered features tightened.
"They’ll wait until the battle against the orcs is over, then pounce on us once we’re already worn down from dealing with thirty thousand enemies."
"Our ranks have been thoroughly trained and are ready to rotate the vanguard at the right moment," said Laine, leader of the Second Legion of Goldenveil, his voice calm.
"We just need to eliminate the orcs and trolls that will likely form the front line of the Green Skin army. The rest will be easy."
His eyes were cold as his mind worked silently.
The goblins and kobolds of the green-skinned army were insignificant to Goldenveil. In truth, they only needed to deal with the orcs. The rest would be like cutting through butter with a red-hot blade.
Doran nodded in agreement, and the meeting proceeded through tedious matters that seemed to have no end.
Essentially, they were dividing up the leadership, deciding who would handle which flanks and, above all, how Amelia’s mages would participate in the battle.
Of Amelia’s five disciples, one focused on illusion magic, another on enchantments, two specialized in destructive magic—primarily fire and ice—while the last mastered healing and enhancement spells.
As for the fifty mages accompanying the army as an auxiliary force, nearly all of them were dedicated to destruction, with only a handful focused on support magic.
The Goldenveil army’s top priority was not to exterminate the enemy, but rather to keep the mages safe.
Five fourth-stage mages and fifty third-stage mages, attacking without any restrictions, would be more than capable of reducing any army to shreds in no time, especially since Faelith would not be participating in this battle.
The coalition’s army only had third-stage mages, so Goldenveil’s fourth-stage mages not only represented a colossal force of artillery and destruction, but also had the ability to dispel enemy spells before the coalition’s mages could even react.
That was Ethan’s greatest asset, even though he had only ten thousand soldiers to face seventy thousand in an open-field battle.
Each mage was assigned their own position on the battlefield, and during the clash against the green-skins, only five third-stage destruction mages would be permitted to act.
Theron would personally deal with the Orc Shaman, while the remaining mages were to reveal themselves only once the green-skin army had already been defeated and the coalition finally stood in direct confrontation with Goldenveil.
With every position for each centuria and cohort defined, and the leaders still debating the finer details of the coming battle, a single order was passed down through the Goldenveil army: rest well.
Tomorrow, the fury of war would descend upon them, and every man would need to be ready to answer it.
Of course, just as Ethan was planning the next battle, the allied army was doing the same.
Following the trail of destruction left by the green-skins—trees split in half, crushed branches, and a nauseating stench of manure and rancid sweat hanging in the air—forty thousand humans, elves, and dwarves advanced with steady strides through the forest.
"The orcs are really ignoring us completely, marching like madmen toward that damned Ethan Goldenveil’s army," remarked one of the elven lords standing beside Lord Fallenwinter, his gray eyes sweeping over the trail of destruction.
"Did that young man do something to incur the wrath of the God of War himself?"
"What other option could there be?" replied Lord Fallenwinter, a hint of scorn lingering in his voice.
"Ethan has declared himself the rightful ruler of the entire Eternal Forest. Isn’t that, in and of itself, a declaration of war against an entire forbidden zone? The boy is lost in his own arrogance."
A hoarse growl echoed after Zael Fallenwinter’s words.
"Or perhaps he simply wants to be the first to stake his claim," interjected another lord—a human—scratching his chin thoughtfully.
"I’ve received some curious news. Several strange lords, known as the Golden Lords, are rising to power in other regions of the Eternal Forest. Many have already declared themselves rulers of it. Don’t you find that strange?"
Those words caught the attention of every lord present—humans, elves, and dwarves alike.
Golden Lords?
Zael Fallenwinter had heard of them before, but always as something distant, an obscure rumor that barely reached his borders.
Could Ethan be one of those lords who claimed to be blessed by the gods?
Given his capabilities, it was quite possible.
