A cold, desolate gaze as she fully took off her headset and turned her chair towards Myung.
"What the hell do you want?"
The tone of her voice was sharp and full of frustration as I got a closer look at her; her outfit resembled a Jirai aesthetic.
"U-Umm, so you were the Yone in the ranked match. Huh?"
Sweat was dripping down Myung’s face; I guess she didn’t expect her opponent to be a girl. Will some as me.
"Yeah, so what?"
Myung gulped.
"Ha, you lose against me. That must make you feel like shit." She said proudly.
Myung was acting high and mighty in front of her enemy, even though she got killed twice by her.
The girl in the chair just stared blankly at Myung’s bratty face as she turned back to her screen.
"Do you go by the username Brattyqueen?"
"Y-Yes, what about it?"
"Heh, one kill and seven deaths."
The girl pointed at her monitor and showed Myung her KDA of that match. Myung had nothing to say; she couldn’t trash talk to her opponent with such an awful KDA.
"T-That doesn’t matter because we won the game."
Myung was holding her integrity together, but the girl had more ammo up her sleeve.
"I have at least three of my accounts to diamond, and I can bet that your one and only account is just hitting emerald. So stop talking to me, trashcan."
"Ack."
Myung was completely left utterly defeated. She was on her knees, hurt and teary-eyed.
"So you."
I jolted as the girl turned her chair towards me.
"You’re that Darisu I 1v1 on the match."
"Y-Yes, I was."
She just looked at me with zero emotion on her face. I gulped as her cold gaze pierced my soul. I got to see her face, and her eyes had dark circles under them; her ears had the same number of ear piercings as Han Na-ri.
"I’ve got to say, that fight was really intense. That was probably one of the hardest fights I’ve had for a while."
She had a small smile on her face as she complimented my skills.
"Oh, hehe, thanks, you were a really tough opponent. It was my third time playing as Darisu, so it was extremely challenging."
"Huh?!? You don’t main Darisu?!"
She was utterly baffled by my response; her eyes widened, and her mouth dropped.
"No, I main Yone like you. The only reason why I play tank is to help my team out."
"So, can I ask you a quick question?"
"Yeah, go for it."
"What rank are you anyway?"
I hesitated for a moment. I gulped as I clenched my hand and answered her question.
"G-Grand master." I said shamefully.
"What?"
"WHAT!!!!!!!"
The girl yelled at the top of her lungs. Everybody in the pc bang began to stare at us. She jumped out of her chair and grabbed my hand.
"Can you please add me. Please."
Unexpertly, after she asked me to add her, Myung quickly got up off the floor.
"N-No way, I won’t allow you to be his friend."
"Mmmm? Why not?" She asked.
"W-Well, that’s because you are a girl and he is a guy, and guys and girls can’t be friends."
"But is he friends with you?"
Myung had no words to respond to her. The girl turned her attention to me and continued to beg me to be her friend.
Her cold, expressionless face turned into a spontaneous and enthusiastic attitude. I usually lie about my rank in League of Legends to hide the fact that I spend almost a year straight on the horrible game. My old friends from high school were a bunch of losers.
"Please, can you add me..."
I didn’t know what to do. Honestly, I really don’t want to add her, not because of her but because of the game. But sadly.
"S-Sure. What is your username?"
I couldn’t say no to her.
"Here it is."
She showed me her username, and I opened up the Riot app and added her.
"D-Done."
"Yes, this is the first time someone is Grand Master on my friends list."
I don’t know if I should be happy or ashamed.
"How about we play together?" She asked joyfully.
"No way, I won’t allow that."
"Shut up, one and seven."
The girl shut Myung up again with her brutal comment that left her stunned.
"So, how about it?"
I wanted to say no but...
"S-Sure, how about the three of us play?"
"Huh? But I don’t want to have dead weight on my team..."
"Huh?!? Screw you, you bitch."
"Guys, Guys, how about we play instead of fighting. Okay?"
They both hesitated at first, but ended up agreeing with each other to play with one another. So Myung and I walked back to our desk and spended are remaining time playing League of Legends.
***
Three and a half hours went by. All three of us were on our last game of the day.
"Myung, watch out. Someone is coming from the bushes."
"O-Okay."
For the past three hours, we were winning some and losing some, but for this last game, we ended on a win.
"Come on, we are at their spawn. We are so close to winning."
My hands, face, and body were all sweaty from this game. At first, I didn’t care if I lost or not, but since the past games were fifty-fifty, I generally wanted to win this game.
Now, all three of us were on our last game of the day.
My eyes were beginning to feel heavy, and my hands were starting to ache from gripping the mouse for so long. But despite being tired, none of us wanted to lose.
We were too close. The game had reached its final stretch. I watched the minimap carefully, keeping my eyes on the enemy team.
Then I noticed something move near the bushes.
Myung immediately backed away.
A second later, an enemy champion burst out of the brush.
"There!" I shouted.
All three of us reacted at once.
Our screens filled with flashes of abilities, health bars dropping, and the constant sounds of attacks colliding. For a few seconds, nobody said a word. We were completely focused.
Then one of us managed to catch an enemy out of position.
"GET HIM!"
We all rushed forward. The enemy tried to escape, but it was too late. One elimination.
Then another. The enemy team began retreating toward their base.
"We got them!"
"Push! Push! Push!"
"Come on!" I shouted. "We are at their spawn! We are so close to winning!"
My hands were sweaty. So was my face.
Honestly, my entire body felt overheated from the game. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as I stared at the enemy Nexus.
"Just hit the Nexus!" someone shouted.
"I’m trying!"
The enemy team was already beginning to respawn.
"Guys, they’re coming back!"
"I KNOW!"
Our attacks hammered against the Nexus. Its health continued to fall.
30%.
"COME ON!"
20%.
"WE GOT THIS!"
10%.
My grip tightened around the mouse.
For a moment, the entire room seemed to disappear. There was only the screen. Only the Nexus. Only the three of us desperately trying to finish the game before the enemy team could stop us.
"Five percent!"
"KEEP HITTING IT!"
The Nexus flashed. The enemy team appeared at their spawn.
The three of us kept attacking.
The Nexus dropped to almost nothing.
And then—
VICTORY.
The screen exploded into the familiar victory animation. For a moment, none of us spoke.
Then the room erupted.
"LET’S GOOOO!"
"WE WON!"
"YES!"
I leaned back in my chair, finally letting go of the mouse. My hands were still shaking slightly from the adrenaline. After three and a half hours, it was finally over. We had ended the night with a win. And honestly?
That was all I wanted.
***
We all left the pc bang together, and honestly, it was really fun for once. Both Myung and the girl were talking about the game like it was an esports tournament. I’m glad they became friends.
But there was something I forgot to ask.
"Hey, may I ask what your name is?"
"Yeah, I was thinking the same thing too." Myung asked.
The girl with the Jirai aesthetic paused for a brief moment and said.
"My name is Song Haneul."
As she said her name, the wind blew, moving her sweater, and I noticed red marks on her neck, which caught my attention.
I couldn’t help but think.
(Are those bruises?)
