Chapter 259 - 130: An Expensive Breakfast, Never Treating AgainChapter 259: Chapter 130: An Expensive Breakfast, Never Treating Again
The group’s car soon arrived at the Development Zone.
After getting out of the car, they saw a steady stream of people heading into the first floor of Delicious. They all seemed to be in a rush. Even those walking in pairs or small groups didn’t speak to one another, simply forging ahead with their heads down.
"Boss Su’s business is doing pretty well, huh? So many people this early in the morning."
Lu Yongliang knew a little about this. "These are employees from the company across the street," he said. "Boss Su somehow managed to put their company cafeteria out of business."
"Hmph." Cui Yufen said nothing more, simply leading her apprentices upstairs.
These head chefs from major restaurants all over the country were also rather puzzled about today’s breakfast.
"What’s gotten into Boss Xiaosu? We’re all about to leave, yet he insists we come for breakfast. Fine, we’ll eat, but he’s making us pay for it ourselves? That’s not very hospitable."
"Hey! Watch what you say! If Boss Su’s breakfast is comparable to the dishes from yesterday, then it won’t have been a wasted trip!"
"Are you kidding? Those Lu Cuisine dishes were that delicious only after generations of tradition and refinement. Boss Su is just exceptionally skilled at bringing out the best in his ingredients. How good can one breakfast possibly be?"
"Quiet down, quiet down! Boss Su is right over there, watching."
The large contingent of chefs arrived on the second floor, and from the doorway, they spotted Su Chen standing not far off.
He was leaning against the kitchen doorway, his gaze sweeping back and forth across the dining hall. It was unclear what he was looking for.
Seeing the large group pour in through the entrance, Su Chen immediately strode over to greet them with a smile.
"Teacher Cui, Master Lu, and you two Uncles, thank you all for coming!"
Lu Yongliang and the Jiang Brothers knew what was up. Jiang Wusheng grasped Su Chen’s hand and asked, "Are there noodles today?"
Su Chen shook his head. "We have noodles, but not until lunchtime. For breakfast, we just have meat buns and tea eggs."
"Tsk!" Jiang Wensheng clicked his tongue. "A shame we can’t have noodles, but buns are a great consolation. Boss Su, you said this morning was your treat. Is that true?"
"Absolutely!"
Lu Yongliang immediately chimed in, "The ’eat as much as you want’ kind of true?"
"You’d better believe it!"
Seeing Su Chen agree so generously, Lu Yongliang and the Jiang Brothers immediately found an empty table and sat down. "Master Cui, you’d better sit down quick! You’re in for a real treat today!"
Cui Yufen, looking unconvinced, sat down at the same table with the three men.
The other apprentices all found their own places to sit. The second-floor space was quite spacious; you could have fit another hundred people in there.
They had just settled in when they heard a few people at a nearby table arguing loudly. Were they fighting with that short-legged girl?
"Are you serious? Thirty-eight for a single bun? Zhang Li, we’re all former colleagues. You can’t rip us off like this!"
"Yeah! We know your buns are good, but jacking up the price this much... Are you trying to tell us not to come back anymore?"
"Zhang Li, this is just bullying!"
The short-legged girl puffed out her chest to face them. "You don’t know jack! The five-yuan buns haven’t changed. Go ahead and eat those. Who’s forcing you to eat the thirty-eight-yuan ones? Take it or leave it! We don’t do forced sales here!"
"Whoa! Xiaozhangli is getting pretty cocky now that she’s switched companies. Guess you don’t want to acknowledge your old colleagues anymore, huh!"
Huffing, Zhang Li grabbed the ear of the man who’d spoken. "Wang Rui, don’t think I’m afraid to hit you! You’ve got time to run your mouth at me—if you’ve got the guts, try one of the thirty-eight-yuan buns!"
Liu Xia, the girl from the warehouse, chimed in, egging him on. "Yeah, Wang Rui, just try one! Be the guinea pig for all of us and see if it’s any good~"
Wang Rui shook off Zhang Li’s hand. "Fine, keep goading me! Don’t think I don’t have the guts. I’ll take one! Xiaozhangli, hurry up and get your daddy a bun—the thirty-eight-yuan kind!"
"You’re the boss!" Zhang Li said with a grin and headed for the kitchen.
The chefs watched this scene unfold, completely baffled.
The relationships at this company were too chaotic; they couldn’t make heads or tails of what was going on.
But one thing was crystal clear to everyone: the price of the buns had gone up.
As the first person to dare to eat such an expensive bun, Wang Rui had immediately captured everyone’s attention.
A few of his colleagues from the design department couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy.
"Everyone says the folks in the General Affairs Department are all rich kids. They earn three thousand a month but live like they make ten thousand. I’m so jealous!"
"The design department has it the worst. People think we earn a lot, but we trade our health for every penny. In any case, I couldn’t bring myself to eat a bun that expensive."
"Sigh... We were born to be workhorses. Let’s just eat. We should learn from President Ling, achieve financial freedom as soon as possible, and then we’ll be able to eat whatever we want!"
A short while later, Zhang Li came out carrying a single bun on a hot, jade-white plate.
"Wang Rui, I’m telling you, you will have zero regrets after eating this bun!"
Cui Yufen’s apprentices didn’t rush to order. They had to pay for their own meals, after all, and they were all engrossed in the little drama unfolding nearby.
Wang Rui said, "If this bun isn’t as good as you claim, don’t blame me when I lose it!"
With that, he picked up the bun and took a huge bite.
Everyone else watched, eager to see just how delicious a thirty-eight-yuan bun could possibly be.
After all, the five-yuan meat buns were already unbelievably good; they had to eat three or four every day just to get their fix.
Could this one really be that much better than the five-yuan version?
As everyone’s minds raced with speculation, Wang Rui finished chewing his first bite.
