Ling Feng paused, squinting his eyes at him: "Why?"

"We suspect that you are a notorious bandit, and now we need to take you back for interrogation!"

The opponent said coldly, then drew the long knife from his waist!

Seeing this scene, Ling Baoguo was dumbfounded.

Ling Feng simply nodded: "Alright then, I can’t ignore the words of the government officer, I’ll go with you!"

The leader of the government officers snorted: "Consider yourself smart!"

But he didn’t consider that anyone who could take out so many gold bars at once couldn’t be a common person, could they?

But now these guys were all blinded by greed, forgetting everything else.

Ling Feng turned back to look at Ling Baoguo: "Don’t worry, nothing will happen to me, I’ll be back soon."

After saying this, he looked up at Sato Saori.

Sato Saori didn’t say a word, just nodded slightly.

She already understood Ling Feng’s intention and had nothing else to instruct, so she said nothing.

Ling Feng walked out the large gate of the courtyard and said, "Shall we go?"

"You’re a suspect now, you can’t just walk away like that, you need to wear shackles in case you run off midway," the leader of the government officers said.

Ling Feng didn’t mind, nodding his head: "Sure, put them on then!"

Several government officers, like wolves and tigers, rushed forward and quickly shackled Ling Feng’s feet!

Then the leader of the government officers turned back and looked at Ling Baoguo: "Your matters are not over, after we deal with this suspect, we’ll come back for you!"

The meaning behind this was that although each had received a gold bar, they were still not satisfied and wanted to extort the money from the people of Shiliu Village!

Hearing this, Ling Feng squinted his eyes, making a firm decision in his heart!

Afterwards, he left Shiliu Village, pushed and shoved by several government officers.

After walking not too far, Ling Feng asked: "Are you guys just on foot? Don’t you have a car?"

"Car?"

The leading government officer walking ahead looked back at him upon hearing this: "You actually thought of taking a car?"

"It’s faster than walking, isn’t it? Where are we going?" Ling Feng asked.

"To town, of course. Your case is too significant, requiring the village head’s personal interrogation!" answered the leading officer.

Ling Feng responded with an "Oh," understanding that the so-called village head was similar to a town chief.

He didn’t say much more, continuing to stride ahead.

Behind him, the others discreetly glanced at one another, exchanging looks.

By this time, it was entirely dark, and the countryside was pitch black, without a flicker of light.

Yet the dirt road, having been walked over daily by many, had been trampled firm and its color was entirely different from the surrounding ground, making the path visible.

The moon wasn’t too large today, but with some starlight, it was barely enough to make out people within a few meters.

Walking along, they encountered a grove of black pines on either side of the road.

The environment here was entirely different from the Shiliu Village that Ling Feng remembered; in his world, this forest didn’t exist and had transformed into farmland.

Upon seeing this forest, several government officers exchanged a glance, then the leading one said to Ling Feng: "Let’s take a break here, head into the forest!"

"Just resting by the roadside would do, why go into the forest?" Ling Feng asked.

"Just go where I tell you, no need for so much talk!"

The leading government officer revealed a fierce look, drawing his knife to command.

Ling Feng nodded: "Alright, I’ll listen to you."

The group stepped into the forest, the ones behind pushing Ling Feng forward, walking several dozen meters before stopping.

Then they surrounded him.

Ling Feng frowned at this sight: "What is this about?"

"What is this about?"

The leading government officer sneered: "Kid, we can’t wait to take you to town, we’ll interrogate you here. Now, tell us, where did you get those gold bars?"

"I picked them up!" Ling Feng shrugged innocently.

"Picked them up?"

The leading officer sneered: "That excuse wouldn’t fool an idiot; you’re at the point of death and still unaware. Tell us, how many such gold bars do you have?"

As he spoke, he took a gold bar from his waist and weighed it.

Ling Feng looked at him: "What? I’ve given you this much and you’re still not satisfied?"

"Kid, you’re carrying too much wealth; don’t you know the saying ’don’t flaunt your riches’?" the chief officer sneered.

"I do understand, just didn’t expect you to be so greedy!" Ling Feng said.

"Since you understand, cooperate. Tell us how many gold bars there are and where they are kept, and maybe you’ll have a chance to live, and the people of Shiliu Village won’t suffer!" The chief officer said grimly.

Ling Feng nodded: "What if I say that’s all there is, not a single bar more?"

"You’re lying; just look at you. You handed over so many gold bars without flinching; it’s clear you’re not short of money!" the leader accused.

"Oh, is that so?"

Ling Feng looked at him, then nodded: "Alright, I admit I have a lot of gold bars, you want to take them all, right?"

"Just how many do you have?" asked the officer.

"Not that many, perhaps a few thousand," Ling Feng replied.

"..."

The officers were dumbstruck, blankly exchanging glances.

The leader was startled too, then sneered: "At such a time, you dare to talk nonsense. Do you believe we wouldn’t cut you down here with a single strike?"

"I’m not lying, I really have that many gold bars. If you want them, I can take them out all now!" Ling Feng said earnestly.

"Right now?"

The officers were stunned.

Then the leader squinted: "Alright, show me one now!"

"Okay!"

Ling Feng nodded, palm turned, and in his hand was a gold bar.

"..."

The officers were in a daze.

Each wore a different expression—some surprised, others seemingly realizing something, took a step back.

The lead officer’s eyes shone with greed, trembling as he asked: "Do you truly have thousands of such gold bars?"

"Yes, I can take them all out for you, but with so many, I’m not sure if you can carry them?" Ling Feng asked.

At this question, the officer immediately realized, nodding: "Right, right, they’re impossible to carry all at once, this matter should wait until we return to town!"

"What? Not planning to kill me midway anymore?" Ling Feng asked with a smile.
