Chapter 162: Chapter 149-150: Investigation, Scheming (3)

Then, it would be well worth it.

If the two could complement each other, it would create a nice little synergy.

"Honored guest, this Cave Mansion is a special case. The contract Leopard Ridge signed with its tenants has a specific clause: any new tenant requires the approval of the other Great Demons residing here.

However, with your status as a Second Order Middle Grade Alchemist, I imagine it won’t be a big problem."

The Managerial Demon explained.

Xu Chang’an understood.

’After all, it’s a shared living space. It’s only normal to check out a potential neighbor and learn a bit about their background.’

And so, the Managerial Demon led Xu Chang’an toward the Four-directions Cave Mansion.

As it happened, the three Great Demons of the Four-directions Cave Mansion were all present.

In a clearing in the center of the Cave Mansion, Xu Chang’an saw the three Great Demons.

A Leopard Spirit, a Lark Spirit, and an Ox Demon.

The Leopard Spirit was a Tier Two High Grade Alchemist, the Lark Spirit a Tier Two Middle Grade Array Master, and the Ox Demon a Tier Two High Grade Puppet Master.

Their Cultivation Realms were all at Mid-stage Foundation Establishment. The Leopard Spirit and the Ox Demon were at the peak of the middle stage, while the Lark Spirit was slightly behind, at Mid-stage Foundation Establishment Great Success.

Together, the three Demons were an exceptionally powerful force.

Upon hearing the Managerial Demon’s introduction, all three Demons gave him a curious look.

’A mere Qi Refining Ninth Layer, yet he’s already a Second Order Middle Grade Alchemist!’

’Such a mismatch between his Cultivation and his professional Skills is quite rare!’

"How long have you been practicing your Alchemy Skills, Fellow Daoist?"

The Leopard Spirit asked.

"To answer your question, Fellow Daoist, I have been practicing my Alchemy Skills for almost fifty years now."

To avoid sounding too outlandish and attracting unwanted attention, Xu Chang’an deliberately inflated the number of years.

"I see."

A glint flickered in the Leopard Spirit’s eyes.

"Fellow Daoist, the three of us need to discuss this before we can make a decision. Why don’t you come back tomorrow?"

The Demons exchanged a glance, and the Leopard Spirit spoke with a smile.

It was clear that among the three Demons in the Four-directions Cave Mansion, the Leopard Spirit held the highest status.

"Alright."

Xu Chang’an cupped his hands and departed.

...

"Fellow Daoists, what do you think of my earlier proposal?"

An Array sealed off the inside of the Leopard Spirit’s Cave Mansion.

The three Demons were gathered, discussing something.

However, they weren’t discussing whether to rent the Cave Mansion to Xu Chang’an. Instead...

"I think it’s doable! That Gray Rat Demon only has a mere Qi Refining Ninth Layer Cultivation! With our strength, one strike is all it will take!

A Second Order Middle Grade Alchemist; he must be incredibly wealthy!"

It was the Ox Demon who spoke, his voice deep and rumbling.

"Fellow Daoist Bai, what do you think?"

Seeing the Ox Demon’s agreement, the Leopard Spirit turned his gaze to the Lark Spirit.

The Lark Spirit did not speak.

The Demons had been neighbors for a long time; they knew each other’s origins quite well.

This Leopard Spirit had started out as a Tribulation Cultivator. He’d gotten lucky and obtained an Alchemist’s inheritance, and with his considerable Talent, he became an Alchemist himself.

Using the wealth he accumulated as an Alchemist, he cultivated continuously, eventually becoming a Foundation Establishment Great Demon.

Alchemists earn a fortune. After becoming a Foundation Establishment Great Demon, he had supposedly washed his hands of his old ways and retired from the trade.

But now, seeing that his target was a mere Qi Refining Ninth Layer, his old murderous, thieving instincts had clearly resurfaced.

Weak, but wealthy—no matter how you looked at it, he was the perfect target to rob and kill.

Had Xu Chang’an revealed the Cultivation of a Foundation Establishment Great Demon, the Leopard Spirit, wary of the repercussions, would have had to think twice.

The other one, the Ox Demon, was no saint either.

Though not a Tribulation Cultivator, he was still a ruthless, violent, and bloodthirsty sort.

"For a mere Qi Refining Ninth Layer, the two of you are more than enough. I’ll sit this one out."

After hesitating for a moment, the Lark Spirit finally spoke.

"Fine! Fellow Daoist Bai doesn’t have to participate! We can still give you a ten-percent cut of the profits, but we’ll need you to keep this confidential."

The Leopard Spirit said.

That was exactly what he’d hoped for. One less Demon involved meant one less share to split.

If it weren’t for their long history together and his concern for the potential fallout, he would have preferred to do the job alone.

"Don’t worry, Fellow Daoist. I’ll keep it a secret."

the Lark Spirit said, sighing to itself.

’What a shame. That poor Grey Rat!’
