But of course, those two dorks, Zachary Jacobs and Nina Jennings, just had to deliberately stride past everyone, gloating as they went.

"Hey? Why aren’t you guys walking a little faster? The food will be gone if you’re late."

"Yeah, why are you walking so slowly? Is it because you can’t go any faster?"

"Oh dear, we’re getting old. Our legs just aren’t what they used to be. We can’t even walk fast anymore."

"Tell me about it. Our strides aren’t even as long as other people our age."

"Sigh. If I can’t walk fast on my way to a meal, everything about me—my looks, my figure, my social graces, my good character, my wonderful personality, even my very soul—will be ruined."

No one knew how those two had so much to say; they had a new line for every group they passed.

The crowd’s temples throbbed as they listened. It was so infuriating; they desperately wanted to rebel against their superiors.

But they didn’t dare, and besides, they might not even be able to win a fight against them.

Just then, a heavenly voice came from behind. "Alright, that’s enough from you two. No one’s going to think you’re mute if you keep quiet."

Everyone nodded vigorously. ’Exactly! Our instructor is the best, after all!’

But when they turned to look, all they saw was their dearest Instructor No. 1, zipping past them at high speed on a hoverboard.

’Great, just great. So women really do say one thing and do another, huh?!’

The damage was minimal, but the insult was immense. Their heartfelt gratitude from a moment ago was a goddamn joke.

...

8:30

The assembly bell in the broadcast rang right on time, but the four squads were already in formation on the training ground.

Yvonne Lowell watched this from the surveillance room, a flicker of a smile in her eyes.

She was satisfied, but there was no rush. She’d wait a little.

She leaned back in her office chair, casually playing with her phone.

Just after she replied to Leo Grant’s message, a video call came in from him.

Yvonne Lowell froze for a moment, then took off her mask before answering.

Judging from his background, he was probably in a car. "On your way to the office?"

"Yeah. Did you not sleep well last night?"

Leo Grant looked at the woman on the screen. There were dark circles under her eyes, and he couldn’t hide the distress on his face.

’She’s been gone for less than a day, and she’s already not eating or sleeping well. My poor, darling girlfriend...’

’It’s not that serious,’ Yvonne thought. ’Really, it’s not...’

"I’m fine, I just got up a little early today."

Leo Grant looked at her with deep affection. "Babe, I miss you so much."

Driving in the front, Ian Lynch’s hands slipped on the steering wheel. The car swerved wildly, nearly crashing into the guardrail.

’A boss in love is a terrifying thing...’

Yvonne Lowell found it a little funny. "President Grant, it hasn’t even been a day."

"A day apart feels like three years. That means we haven’t seen each other for almost three years," Leo Grant said in a plaintive tone.

Yvonne Lowell couldn’t stop the corner of her mouth from twitching. "Don’t you try that twisted logic on me. Get back to work."

’I have no idea where he learned all these manipulative lines.’

"Got it. I’ll work hard to make money and try to catch up to my girlfriend."

Leo Grant looked regretful. When it came to work, even his handsome face was useless.

Nina Jennings, who had just walked in, saw her on a call with Leo Grant. A wicked idea sparked, and she shot a look at Zachary Jacobs beside her.

Zachary Jacobs understood but didn’t dare go forward.

Nina’s eyes urged, ’Hurry up.’ He shook his head frantically. ’No way. I want to live to be ninety.’ She gestured confidently. ’Sis has got your back.’ He still looked skeptical. ’Really? An Aurelian’s promise?’ She gave a firm nod. ’Guaranteed.’

Zachary Jacobs took a deep breath, walked to Yvonne Lowell’s side, and in a spot hidden from the camera, placed his hand on her shoulder.

In a gruff voice, he asked, "Honey, who are you talking to?"

On the other end of the line, Leo Grant, who had been asking after Yvonne Lowell’s well-being, saw the sudden appearance of that damned paw, and his expression soured for a moment.

Although he didn’t believe the owner of that damned paw could be a love rival.

But this person was interrupting his chat with his babe.

In the next second, his darling girlfriend grabbed that damned paw and, without batting an eye, bent it backward.

The chair scooted to the side, and then he distinctly heard the THUD of a heavy object hitting the floor.

’Hmm... Judging by the sound, he must have been kicked.’

’Excellent. That felt good.’

"Zachary Jacobs, if you don’t want that paw anymore, I can chop it off for you."

Zachary Jacobs scrambled up, clutching his jaw. Just as he was about to make an excuse for himself, Nina Jennings clamped a hand over his mouth and dragged him out.

Zachary Jacobs shot her an accusatory look. She had clearly said she’d have his back!

But Nina Jennings was looking at the sky, at the ground—anywhere but at him.

’This kid is still too young.’

The world fell silent...

Yvonne Lowell chatted idly with him for a little while longer. Seeing that it was about time, she said she needed to hang up.

"I have to get busy. For the next little while, my replies will be slower, and I probably won’t be able to video call you. You be good, okay?"

Leo Grant’s brows furrowed slightly, but he didn’t press the issue. "Then take good care of yourself. Get plenty of rest, eat your meals on time, wear more clothes. I’ll wait for you to come back."

Yvonne Lowell quickly cut him off. "I know, you worrywart."

If she didn’t stop him, he would probably keep nagging until dark.

It was no less annoying than Abel chanting the band-tightening spell at the Monkey King.

After hanging up, Leo Grant’s expression changed completely.

He lifted his gaze and shot a cold look at Ian Lynch. "If you don’t know how to drive, I can send you back to driving school for more practice."

Ian Lynch wasn’t scared in the slightest. In fact, he felt much more comfortable.

’Now *this* is the boss I know!’

’Who was that guy just now?! No idea. Never seen him before.’

...

Meanwhile, on the other side of the training ground.

The trainees had been lined up and standing at attention for nearly half an hour without any sign of the instructor. They were all a bit baffled.

’Didn’t they say to assemble at 8:30? What’s going on now?’

’Did the instructor oversleep?! What about the TAs? There are so many assistant instructors, and not a single one is awake?! Who would believe that?!’

Still, not a single person moved, all of them remaining ramrod straight in their military stance.

Stanley Sutton instructed in a low voice, "Everyone, stand properly. Just treat it as more practice standing at attention."

After all, none of them knew if there were eyes watching from the shadows.

Someone could be secretly observing them from some nook or cranny.

If there were bullet comments floating over their heads, you would probably see countless lines of scrolling text that read: I’m watching u.

(Translation: I’m watching you, watching you, my eyes fixed on you~)

It wasn’t until 9:30 that they saw their beloved instructor finally make her fashionably late appearance.

Yvonne Lowell looked at the people below, her face a picture of surprise. "Eh? Have you all been here for a long time? Wasn’t assembly at 9:30? Did I remember the time wrong?"

The crowd was speechless for a moment. ’Is she for real?!’

’There’s no way in hell we believe her. She’s obviously doing this on purpose!’

Even though 80 eyes were staring at her, all filled with blatant suspicion, Yvonne Lowell remained perfectly composed, without the slightest hint of guilt.

She cleared her throat. "Since you all came early, let’s just consider it a way to aid digestion. Everyone, two meters of space between you, front and back. Get ready for push-ups."
