Time ticked by, minute by minute, until it was three in the afternoon.

During that time, the four teams hadn’t run into each other again, each searching the mountain on their own.

Skylar Kidd glanced at the sky. "Looks like we’ll have to spend the night in the mountains. We have no idea where the exit is."

A sharp glint flashed in Summer Quinn’s eyes. "That’s right, our location! Everyone, check your bags quickly for a hidden map."

With that, she started rummaging through her own pack.

"That can’t be right. If there was one, the instructors would have told us already. Our bags just have some supplies... unless it’s in a hidden compartment?" Skylar Kidd emptied her bag and searched through its contents carefully.

Another girl opened her sleeping bag. "I found it! It’s in the lining of the sleeping bag!"

"I found mine too! It was hidden between two packs of compressed biscuits."

The others also found their maps, one after another, in different places.

Summer Quinn cursed under her breath, "They’re so devious. They didn’t even hide them in the same spot. They must have figured we wouldn’t think of this at the start."

Skylar Kidd spread the map out for everyone to see. "Based on our pace, we’re probably around here right now. At the earliest, we won’t get back to camp until tomorrow afternoon."

Summer Quinn pondered for a moment, then pointed to a spot on the map. "Let’s keep moving forward. By the time we get here, it’ll be almost dark. We can make camp there for the night."

"Roger that!"

「...」

As night fell, the mountain forest filled with an unknown dread.

Although there were no large wild animals, there were still plenty of reptiles, birds, and other creatures.

All four teams found flat ground to set up camp and began to sort out their food and warmth for the evening.

It was precisely because of this that they discovered the existence of the maps.

Instantly, every corner of the mountain forest at night was filled with complaints about the unscrupulous instructors. None of them dared to speak too loudly, afraid of being overheard and facing retaliation.

Little did they know...

"Tell me, why on earth did you have to hide listening devices in their bags? Were you worried their insults weren’t vicious enough?" Nina Jennings couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

The memory of that one unknown person saying, ’Everyone, keep it down. Let’s hide in our sleeping bags to curse them out, so the instructors can’t hear,’ just made her want to laugh.

Yvonne Lowell shot her a sideways glance. "Mind your own business when it comes to beautiful women."

"Hey! You..."

A sharp ringtone cut Nina Jennings off. Yvonne Lowell picked up her phone, glanced at the screen, and answered the call.

"Well, well. Did you find out I threw that bunch of yours into the mountains and call specifically to hold me accountable?"

After the person on the other end said something, Yvonne Lowell glanced at Nina Jennings and put the call on speaker before replying.

"If you want to find her, you should go on the dark web. Why are you picking on me and me alone?"

An elderly but resonant voice came from the other end. "I’m in a hurry, aren’t I? General Ryan Lynch was assassinated on his way home. He was shot twice, with one bullet near his heart. I want to ask her to be the lead surgeon."

"Where is he now?" Yvonne Lowell’s expression turned grim.

"On the way to the general hospital. It’ll probably be another twenty minutes."

Nina Jennings patted her hand and gave a silent nod.

"I’ll try to contact her for you. I’ll let you know what happens in a bit."

After hanging up, Yvonne Lowell stood up and put on her jacket.

Nina Jennings stood up as well. "Ryan Lynch... why does that sound so familiar? It couldn’t be the Forrest Family connected to your Leo Grant, could it?"

"Yes. His maternal uncle."

No matter who the other party was, she would never make a decision on Nina Jennings’s behalf. That’s why she put the call on speaker when she heard they were looking for Nina, letting her make the choice herself.

"Let’s go, let’s go! I’ll go drag him back from death’s door for you. It’s no big deal." Nina Jennings grabbed her and started pulling her towards the door.

Yvonne Lowell paused at the doorway and looked at the few people inside monitoring the screens. "Finn, when Zachary Jacobs gets here, let him know. Also, call a few more people over to help watch all the cameras. Be extra vigilant."

"Yes, Lowell. Don’t worry."

「...」

Half an hour later, Yvonne Lowell and Nina Jennings arrived unimpeded on the top floor of the general hospital.

DING. The elevator doors opened, and the two of them walked out.

The elderly man, who had been sitting with his eyes closed to rest, opened them. He turned to look over, a hint of a relaxed smile appearing on his usually stern face. "You’re here."

Nina Jennings nodded at him. "Please take me to get prepped first."

"Mr. Sutton."

"Yes. Please, come with me," the middle-aged man beside him said to Nina Jennings as he stepped forward.

After Nina Jennings left with the man, Yvonne Lowell sat down next to Elder Clark.

"What happened?"

"Sigh. It was just one person, and they came with the intention to die. After seeing they’d hit Ryan Lynch’s heart, they shot themselves. Luckily, he has dextrocardia, otherwise he might not have lasted until you arrived."

Once Yvonne Lowell understood the situation, she didn’t say anything more.

Elder Clark leaned closer to her. "Hey, what a coincidence she’s in Kingsland. Has she been with you recently?"

Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "Didn’t you guess that from the beginning? Why else would you have called me directly?"

Elder Clark pouted. "And you still lied to me, saying you’d ’try to contact her’."

"Well, I had to ask for her opinion first, didn’t I? I couldn’t just kidnap her and bring her to you, could I?"

Yvonne Lowell sighed and pressed her forehead. ’This old rascal is at it again, nitpicking my words.’

"Anyway, you lied to me. The friendship between us is getting more and more plastic," Elder Clark said, his voice growing more self-righteous.

The men standing opposite them exchanged glances. ’How did this young, masked woman manage to turn the big boss into a childish brat?!’

’We don’t even have the courage to talk to the big boss! On what grounds?!!’

Yvonne Lowell was so exasperated she laughed. She shot him a sideways glance. "You should spend less time online. And I haven’t even gotten to you yet. What are you doing out here so late at night?"

Elder Clark’s bluster immediately deflated. "I was just worried about Fletcher, wasn’t I? And I guessed you might come, so I thought I’d come see you."

"Didn’t I say I’d visit you another day?"

"But you never specified which ’another day’!" Elder Clark accused.

Yvonne Lowell changed the subject. "It’s so late. Should I take you home first?"

"Late? What’s so late? It’s not even eight o’clock! I’m going to wait a while longer. Don’t even think about trying to get rid of me!"

"Nine o’clock at the latest." Before Elder Clark could answer, Yvonne Lowell continued.

"Otherwise, I’ll just knock you out and carry you back. I’m sure Uncle Sutton would be more than happy for me to do that, anyway."

"Mr. Sutton would never! He’s not like you!"

Uncle Sutton, off to the side: ’No, I’m just like her. I’d be more than happy!!!’

Yvonne Lowell and Uncle Sutton exchanged a look. Everything was understood without a word.

"Don’t look at Mr. Sutton! There’s no way Mr. Sutton would conspire with you!"

Yvonne Lowell gave a fake laugh. "I can’t wake a person who’s pretending to be asleep."

The elevator doors opened again. Yvonne Lowell looked up.
