The sedan came to a smooth stop not far from the training grounds, and its occupants pushed open the doors to get out.

In the lead was a middle-aged man with a naturally imposing air. His sharp, piercing eyes scanned the camp’s environment before finally locking onto the team members on the training field.

Suddenly, a young woman’s slightly teasing voice came from behind him. "Minister Shaw, are you satisfied with what you see?"

Hearing the familiar voice, Minister Shaw immediately turned his head.

His expression softened slightly upon seeing who it was. Though he still looked a bit stiff, you could tell he was trying his best.

"Yvonne, long time no see."

Yvonne Lowell smiled. "It has been a while. I’m all grown up now, but you still don’t look a day older."

Minister Shaw poked her forehead with his index finger. "You, still such a smooth-talker."

"What are you talking about? It’s the plain truth," Yvonne Lowell retorted with a pout. "By the way, how come you’re the only leader who came? You guys really have a lot of faith in me."

"Who else could I trust, if not you? Ryan Lynch was supposed to come with me, but you know, that thing came up. So I had to come by myself."

"Fine." Yvonne Lowell tilted her chin toward the training grounds. "Come on. Let me show you the soldiers this bandit chief has been training for the past month."

The accompanying guards hurried to follow. It was true they were shocked by the drastic change in Minister Shaw’s demeanor, but it was also true that they were curious to see what kind of soldiers the legendary "bandit chief" had produced.

...

When they arrived at the training grounds, the people below were doing leg stretches.

At first, when they saw Yvonne Lowell, no one had much of a reaction.

But when they got a clear look at the man beside her, a few of them lost their composure and dropped to one knee on the spot.

Yvonne Lowell was a little speechless. ’Why is every one of them acting like they’ve never seen the world? They’re just embarrassing me.’

’So I’m the one who’s not worthy, huh? How come they never give me such a grand salute?’

"Well, well, it’s not the New Year yet, but you’re already bowing? Though, aren’t you missing a leg?"

The team members came to their senses, looking a bit sheepish.

They quickly stood up, straightened their training uniforms, and saluted the visitor. "Good day, Minister Shaw!"

’He’s our idol! The last time we saw him was at last year’s commendation ceremony!’

’Who says soldiers don’t have idols?! It’s just that these are the only stars we follow!’

Minister Shaw returned the salute. "Hello, everyone. Don’t be nervous. I was just passing by to take a look."

The team members thought, ’Right, right. "Passing by" all the way into the suburbs. Another half an hour and you’d be in Rydell Province. And what a coincidence to be "passing by" on the exact day of our assessment.’

Yvonne Lowell thought, ’...Am I invisible or something? I’m five-foot-seven, 121 pounds. A living person this big standing right here shouldn’t be so easy to ignore, right???’

"Yes, yes, Minister Shaw is great. To you, he’s the best in the world. I’m just a prop, I’m no good at all, I might as well not even exist," Yvonne Lowell said, her tone dripping with passive aggression.

’Wait... Minister Shaw is great... Shaw is not... Ugh, that sounds a bit odd, doesn’t it...?’

’Whatever, who cares. As long as I’m not embarrassed, someone else will be.’

The team members froze for a second, exchanged glances, and then shouted in unison, "Instructor No. 1 is great! We think Instructor No. 1 is the best in the world!"

"I’ll have to politely decline. Belated affection is worth less than weeds. Minister Shaw and I are the ones who are the best in the world."

The team members thought, ’We’re damned if we praise you, and damned if we don’t. As long as you’re happy, right? What are we supposed to say?’

Minister Shaw patted her head with an amused smile. "So mischievous. Still a child at heart."

Yvonne Lowell rubbed her nose, shamelessly confident. "I’m teaching them to be civilized, to be polite, and to set a new standard of conduct on your behalf."

Then, before he could reply, Yvonne Lowell looked at the people below and continued,

"Alright, in ten minutes, you will be assessed by your individual squads. First, follow the teaching assistants to the different events. Let your Minister Shaw get a good look at the results of your training."

"Yes, ma’am!" The team members walked away reluctantly, looking back every few steps.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Your charm is truly powerful. Usually, they look at me like I’m the plague, but now they can barely walk away from you."

"It just means you’ve established your authority as an instructor. They respect you. That’s a good thing."

Yvonne Lowell remained silent, her eyes screaming, ’Do you honestly believe a word you’re saying?!’

She took the folder from Finn Knight’s hands and passed it to Minister Shaw. "The assessment content is all in here. At the back are their best scores from this period. Which event would you like to see first?"

Looking at the contents of the first page, a flicker of surprise crossed Minister Shaw’s eyes. "Aren’t these assessment tasks a bit heavy? And can you even finish so many events in one day?"

Then, as if a thought occurred to him, Minister Shaw added, "You didn’t shorten the time just because I was coming, did you? Are you trying to make them hate me?"

"You’re overthinking it. This is how they normally train," Yvonne Lowell said, rolling her eyes. "Besides, I have a lot of people, a big place, and all the equipment. We can split up the assessment, it’ll be quick."

"You could have left out that last part. Otherwise, I might think you’re taking a jab at me."

"Well... are you saying I’m not?" Yvonne Lowell shrugged innocently.

Minister Shaw shot her a look. "Let’s go see Gray Wolf’s obstacle run first."

"You got it. Right this way, sir, to the obstacle course," Yvonne Lowell said, walking with him toward the site.

...

When they arrived at the obstacle course, even the worldly and experienced Minister Shaw was stunned.

He looked at the course before him, then back at the file in his hands.

"You didn’t say it was an obstacle course this big. Just how long is it?"

Yvonne Lowell’s expression didn’t change as she shrugged. "But I also didn’t say it was the 400-meter course like the one at your camp. Besides, it’s only 1600 meters. That’s not far."

"And you just said this is how they normally train?"

"That’s right. Every single event in the assessment today is part of their daily routine. Try not to make such a big deal out of it."

Yvonne Lowell pressed a finger to her lips. "Shh. It’s starting. Focus."

When the members of Gray Wolf took the field, their movements were so fast they were a blur. They paid no mind to the obstacles, tackling each one as if they were running on flat ground.

Yvonne Lowell’s lips curled into a satisfied smile. ’Quite a bit of progress. My affection for these brats wasn’t wasted.’

Soon, the entire squad’s results were submitted. Yvonne Lowell didn’t look, handing the sheet directly to Minister Shaw.

"Take a look. Compare it to the scores in the folder. I bet every single one of them has improved."

Hearing this, Minister Shaw flipped to the corresponding page. The results were just as Yvonne Lowell had predicted.

But along with satisfaction, his feelings were also a little complicated.

’To get a whole group of people to improve this much in less than a month... Yvonne truly is a remarkable talent.’

’What a pity she won’t agree to become my full-time colleague.’

Minister Shaw then transformed into a curious child. "So, tell me, how far is this weighted long-distance run?"
