Yvonne Lowell was slow to react. She blinked blankly, watching his impassioned expression with his eyes closed, forgetting to respond.
A sharp sting on her lips made her gasp and snap back to her senses.
Leo Grant had nipped her. "Focus."
Yvonne Lowell’s eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly closed her eyes.
When the kiss ended, Leo Grant slowly released her.
Looking at the woman before him, her eyes misty and her cheeks flushed, Leo Grant felt his throat tighten.
Then, as if to hide his reaction, he buried his face in the crook of Yvonne Lowell’s neck, peppering it with light, intermittent pecks.
The tingling, ticklish sensation on her neck made Yvonne Lowell shiver uncontrollably, and she instinctively tried to pull away.
"Shh, don’t move. Just let me cool down."
But he didn’t stop, and his large hand began to rub her waist soothingly.
His hot breath on her neck made Yvonne Lowell shiver again. She placed a hand against his chest,
"But my neck is ticklish."
’Damn... Was that really my voice?!! Why did it sound so sickeningly sweet?!’
’And him—cooling down my ass! Who the hell cools down like this?! Does he need to cool down so badly that he can just ignore how I feel?!’
Hearing the change in her tone, a glint flashed in Leo Grant’s eyes. He quirked his lips into a silent smile.
"Then I’ll switch to a different spot."
As he finished speaking, Yvonne Lowell felt a warm sensation on the shell of her ear.
’Holy shit!!!’
Through his loungewear, Yvonne Lowell’s hand, pressed against his chest, could feel his skin burning up.
"Don’t..."
Yvonne Lowell’s protest went unheeded, but the flurry of kisses moved, starting from her chin, to her cheek, and then to the other side.
It was as if he was telling her, ’Alright, anything you say.’
Yvonne Lowell was completely overwhelmed. Her brain just shut down.
And yet, out of the corner of her eye, she couldn’t help but notice how alluring the old rascal’s every move was.
’Damn it, this is killing me!’
"Handsome, let me go..."
Yvonne Lowell’s voice was unsteady as she spoke.
"Mm, I’m here."
Leo Grant paused for a moment before continuing.
Yvonne Lowell: ’You’re here? Of course I fucking know you’re here! Just stop kissing me already!’
’Forget it. She’d brought this on herself. She had spoiled him, after all.’
’Fine, kiss away. Just kiss me until I can’t even squeak. You damn man.’
After a long while, Leo Grant finally let her go.
Yvonne Lowell glared at the man before her. "Are you a dog?!"
Little did she know, her eyes were so glistening and watery that her glare held no threat at all.
Leo Grant took a deep breath and covered her eyes with his hand, his voice low. "Shh, don’t look at me."
The woman in his arms blinked, her lashes sweeping against his palm and making it itch.
Yvonne Lowell snapped back to reality, pulled his hand away, and bit him on the chin.
Then she immediately wriggled free and stood up. "It’s getting late. I should go."
Leo Grant froze for a second, then grabbed the hem of her shirt. "You won’t stay a little longer? You just woke up, after all."
Yvonne Lowell: ’Yeah, right. If I stay any longer, you’ll have your way with me, won’t you?!’
"I was just catching up on lost sleep; it won’t mess with my biological clock. Besides, aren’t you still busy with work? You have to go in tomorrow," Yvonne Lowell said, patting his head as it drooped like a sad puppy’s.
Leo Grant could only stand up with her. "Then I’ll walk you out."
"No need. It’s only a few steps, and it’s freezing out."
Leo Grant ignored her, putting her padded jacket on for her and wrapping her scarf around her neck.
Only then did he put on his own overcoat from the sofa and lead her outside by the hand.
Noticing her hands were a little cold, Leo Grant tucked their intertwined fingers into his overcoat pocket.
The two chatted idly and soon arrived at the door of the villa across the street.
Leo Grant tightened the scarf around her neck. "Call me if you can’t sleep."
"Don’t worry, I’ll be fine."
Yvonne Lowell shot him an annoyed glare. ’What a crafty old fox.’
Her words left Leo Grant speechless for a moment. He chuckled helplessly. "How about I bring you breakfast tomorrow?"
"I’ll probably get up a little late tomorrow, and I plan to go back to the Lowell Family’s home. You should focus on your own work; don’t worry about me."
Yvonne Lowell gently scratched his palm. "Hurry back inside. You’re barely wearing anything."
"Okay. Go on in," Leo Grant said, leaning down to peck her on the lips.
Leo Grant stood rooted to the spot, only turning to leave after she was out of sight.
...
Yvonne Lowell stood before the bathroom mirror, sighing at the red marks on her neck.
’Seriously, are all men just born knowing how to do this? And they say when an old house catches fire, it’s a terrifying blaze... He’s living proof.’
Thankfully, while she rarely wore makeup, she had a full set of cosmetics. Otherwise, she’d have no idea how she’d face her family tomorrow.
Even though nothing had *really* happened, anyone who saw these marks would assume it had.
Comforting herself with the thought that ’at least the concealer is high-quality,’ Yvonne Lowell fell straight back to sleep.
Early the next morning, after covering the marks on her neck and putting on a turtleneck sweater for good measure, Yvonne Lowell drove back to the Lowell family’s villa.
She had just finished changing her shoes in the foyer when a golden accessory attached itself to her thigh.
Looking down, she saw it was Goldie.
She bent down, scooped him up, and walked toward the living room. "Well now, you’ve been eating well, haven’t you? You’re fatter again."
"WOOF WOOF!" *I’m well-fed!*
"Oh? No more whimpering?" Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow.
"WOOF WOOF WOOF!" *This is the price of growing up!*
Wendy Sutton, who was watching TV, turned at the sound. Her eyes lit up.
"Nola, you’re back! No wonder Goldie suddenly bolted for the door."
"Yes, Mom. I just wrapped things up." Yvonne Lowell put Goldie down and went to hug Wendy Sutton.
"You’ve gotten thinner. No matter how busy you are, you must eat and rest properly. Don’t be a workaholic like your older brother."
Wendy Sutton’s brow furrowed slightly as she looked at her daughter with concern.
Yvonne Lowell couldn’t stop her lips from twitching. She looked down at her puffy, padded jacket.
’First of all, I haven’t lost any weight!’
’And second, how amazing is my mom? How can she tell anything through all these layers?!’
"I know, I have been eating on time. But restaurant food just can’t compare to your cooking, Mom."
Yvonne Lowell linked her arm through her mother’s and leaned on her shoulder.
Wendy Sutton couldn’t suppress her smile. She poked her daughter’s forehead with her finger.
"You and your sweet words. What do you want for lunch? I’ll make it for you in a bit."
"Everything my beautiful mother makes is delicious, but braised short ribs would be the absolute best."
Wendy Sutton shot her a sideways glance. "I knew it. Asking was pointless."
Yvonne Lowell scooped up Goldie, who was busy pawing at her pant leg, and started squishing his fluffy fur.
"Hehe, that’s because you know me so well, Mom."
The mother and daughter chatted idly, the atmosphere warm and harmonious.
Suddenly remembering something, Wendy Sutton spoke up. "Oh, that’s right. About half a month ago, Madam Ford from the Forrest Family came by with her two children to drop off a gift. She said it was to thank you for getting the miracle doctor, Michael White, to save their son, Ryan Lynch. What’s that all about?"
