"Go get your things, Hildegard. We’re leaving."

Hildegard didn’t even bother arguing this time. She just nodded once, and then she slithered away to grab her things. At the side, Rita had been silent as she watched the entire exchange calmly. An argument between family members was something that Rita didn’t have any right to interfere in, but once Hildegard was gone, Rita spoke up in a calm tone.

"You’re killing that girl’s dream. You know that, right?"

Hildegard’s mother turned to look at Rita with a frown once she heard that, and Rita stepped forward as she continued.

"Hildegard is a brilliant mage, and she has a lot of potential to be a brilliant researcher. Taking her away from school now, it’s only going to kill that dream of hers."

The woman scoffed.

"She’s a child. What does she know about dreams and aspirations? Most children change their dreams three or four times before they finally decide on what they want to be. Hildegard will find something else that she can focus on. But this is not the life she was born for. She has no place in society."

Rita frowned in irritation when she heard the dismissive tone used by Hildegard’s mother! It almost felt like the woman had completely given up on her own daughter’s potential, and Rita wondered what sort of mother could look down on her own child this much! The sound of the upstairs door opening and closing told Rita that Hildegard was already coming back down, and a few seconds later, Hildegard appeared with all of her things packed in a large box. Hildegard was staring at the floor as she held her box gently, and she waited for her mother.

Ka-Cha!

"Madam Rita! Lana is -!"

Lana suddenly appeared from one of the doors at the side with a loud greeting, but Lana stopped in surprise as she saw the scene taking place in front of her! Lana immediately noticed the large box in Hildegard’s hand, and she asked.

"Hildegard! You’re leaving!?"

Lana ran forward quickly and looked up at the taller snake girl, and Hildegard had to force a smile on her face as she reached out and patted Lana’s head softly before Hildegard nodded.

"Yes, I’m leaving. Sorry, Lana, I won’t be able to help you with the magic beasts anymore."

"Waaaa~!"

Lana cried out sadly and hugged Hildegard around the waist, and Hildegard was stunned for a moment before she smiled and hugged the little dragon girl back! When Hildegard had first come here, she really didn’t know what to expect from any of the people in the library. Hildegard thought that she would be facing the same problems that she had faced when she was outside all over again! But Hildegard had quickly come to realise that she was horribly wrong! The people in the library were some of the best friends she ever made, and Hildegard could even describe how much she would miss them!

"I’ll make sure to come visit again sometime later. I promise."

Hildegard patted Lana on the back softly, and Lana nodded into Hildegard’s stomach before Hildegard finally pulled away and turned to Rita. Rita still had a frown on her face, but Hildegard tried her best to smile at the beautiful woman, and Hildegard said:

"T-Thank you for all the classes, Rita. I enjoyed being your student this past week. And uhm, I don’t think I’ll get a chance to say goodbye to Mr. Percival. Can you help me tell him...?"

Hildegard couldn’t even finish her sentence since a tear had started falling from her cheek, and Rita walked forward and gave Hildegard a hug before telling her that she understood.

"I’ll make sure he knows how grateful you are. You were a great student, Hildegard."

Hildegard almost broke down again when she heard Rita say this, and Hildegard buried her face in Rita’s shoulder for a few long seconds before she finally pulled back and bowed to her thankfully! Hildegard’s mother began heading towards the door, and Hildegard obediently followed her mother out of the library and back home.

Around this same time, the meeting between the teachers and other stakeholders had already come to an end, and the teachers now all knew that Hildegard was innocent. There was a wave of complicated emotions washing over every single person that attended the meeting as they slowly filed out of the hall. Many of them felt guilty for the way they had treated Hildegard earlier. They had all put the blame on her shoulders for a long time, and now that she was innocent, they didn’t know how to handle the reality of what they had done!

There were others who felt like the City Guard investigation had actually been flawed! These people still believed that Hildegard had to be somehow guilty of what happened, and they thought that the City Guards were just trying to cover Hildegard’s crime using this relatively unknown skill called Synchronization! And finally, there were those who just didn’t care. These people weren’t interested in whether or not Hildegard had actually done what she did, and they still felt justified in the way they acted since Hildegard was the only person in the library at the time who had the Hellfire affinity!

These three groups all moved out of the library at the same time, and before long, there were only a few people left in the hall. Rosa and Percy were standing with Viva and the headmaster at one side of the room and speaking in a calm voice, but all of a sudden, Rosa exclaimed in shock!

"What do you mean she’s dropping out!?"

Everyone else in the room turned to Rosa in shock when they heard this, but the headmaster told Rosa to please keep her voice down so they could talk like civilized people. Rosa had just been informed by the headmaster that Hildegard was going to drop out of school, and Rosa couldn’t even wrap her head around what she had just heard! It didn’t make any sense at all. Why would Hildegard drop out of school after going through so much to remain here!?

Headmaster Leonart spoke up calmly.

"It was a decision made by her legal guardian, her mother. There was nothing we could do about it. Hildegard is a minor, and her mother has the right to decide what Hildegard can or cannot do, and since Hildegard is also a Magical Risk, the law sides with her mother far more."

"But this isn’t fair. Does her mother not know how hard her daughter worked for this?"

Rosa’s face was twisted in absolute disbelief at that moment! The thought that someone’s own mother would completely dismiss their daughter’s efforts like this just didn’t sit right with her! But the headmaster just shook his head.

"I told her all about this during our meeting, but she still refused to listen. She was not in support of Hildegard staying back in school."

Rosa went silent as she turned away with a frown, and Percy hummed as he spoke to Viva.

"Is there nothing that can be done about this?"

Viva shook her head sadly.

"Sorry, but no. The law is the law, so her mother is acting within her rights. If we want to challenge it, we can send a petition to the Magic Council, but I don’t think that would work either since we’ll be going up against the legal guardian."

"This is bullshit."

Rosa suddenly cursed in annoyance, and she turned and stormed out of the hall angrily! The other three watched her go with empathetic looks on their faces!
