The Heroine Must Die

Chapter187 – Reinforce the seal?

“You didn’t come. You lied to me.” Her voice broke into a raw scream. “Timothy! I may have wronged the whole world—but I never wronged you! And you lied to me!”

Her sobbing turned into hysterical laughter. “You’re that heartless to me—so why can’t I scheme against you? Tell me. Why can’t I?”

Timothy stood bound, emotions crashing inside him—guilt, anger, doubt, confusion.

Was he wrong? Should he have chosen her instead? Was the path to immortality worth this?

He didn’t know anymore. Just as the air grew suffocating—

“Tsk. That’s enough.” A different voice echoed from within Indiana’s body.

Cold. Impatient.

“Someone destroyed the Heavenly Eye. The ones above are urging us to move faster. Take him to Sky-Covering Valley.”

Indiana’s tears stopped as if a switch had been flipped. She calmly took out a handkerchief and wiped her face.

When she looked up again, the sorrow was gone. Only coldness remained. With a faint smile, she tugged the rope and dragged Timothy away.

.......

Moments later, Lauren landed where they’d been. She immediately summoned Briar. “Briar. Is this the place?”

Briar stared at the trampled grass, its tiny flower hat bouncing as it tilted its head. Images flickered in its mind.

“Yes. This is it. They haven’t been gone long.”

“Good. Track them.”

“Yes—this way!”

Lauren pushed her airship to its absolute limit.

Indiana’s airship was top-tier, terrifyingly fast. And she clearly didn’t dare use a teleportation array—Herbert had banned her completely. If she appeared near any teleportation hub, someone would report her instantly.

Briar sat in front, flower branches whipping wildly in the wind. “Found them!”

“You did?”

“Yes! That direction!”

Lauren immediately adjusted course while sending voice transmissions to Dante and the others, giving them coordinates.

She focused entirely on speed— Then Briar’s small voice trembled. “They said… they’re going to dig out that man’s Dragon Spirit Root.”

Lauren almost lost control of the airship. “What?!”

“It’s far… I can’t hear clearly. Just bits and pieces.”

Timothy’s Dragon Spirit Root. Indiana was going to rip it out? Lauren’s eyes lit up for a split second. Good. Perfect.

She thought calmly: Guess I’ll slow down a bit. Let her finish the job first, then I’ll show up.

“What else did they say?” she asked.

After a pause, Briar spoke again. “They said… use the Dragon Spirit Root to reinforce the seal.”

Lauren frowned. “Reinforce the seal? What the hell does that mean?”

“I don’t know… they sped up.”

Lauren had already maxed out her speed. When Indiana accelerated again, the distance widened quickly.

Whatever they were planning—it was bad. Very bad.

Lauren’s expression darkened as she repeatedly urged Dante through the communication talisman.

Meanwhile, Gerald was growing annoyed. “What exactly is Lauren panicking about?” he muttered. “Even if Indiana really betrayed Moonlit Sect, she’s still abducting someone from *Moonlit Sect*. If we interfere, Herbert might accuse us of meddling.”

Dante said quietly, “Timothy still hasn’t compensated Immortal Venerable Drake for the mountain.”

Gerald: “……”

He flicked Dante on the forehead. “Get lost. Do you think Drake is that petty? It’s just a lousy mountain. Do I really need to chase someone down for that?”

Dante couldn’t explain the real reason.

Lauren had insisted they bring Gerald. She was afraid they couldn’t win without him.

Thinking fast, Dante lowered his voice. “Master is right, of course. But judging from Miss Lauren’s expression… this isn’t just about compensation. I suspect Timothy may have taken advantage of Immortal Venerable Drake’s seclusion to steal some extraordinary treasure from Starfell Summit and run.”

Gerald froze. “What?”

Dante pressed on smoothly. “Think about how hesitant Miss Lauren looked just now.”

Stole Drake’s treasure? That little bastard? Unacceptable.

Gerald’s face darkened instantly. “Move,” he snapped, shoving Dante aside. “I’ll pilot.”

The airship surged forward with explosive speed. Within moments— They caught up to Lauren.\

Gerald’s eyes lit up. Then his face darkened. That little bastard.

Without another word, he poured spiritual power into the controls and the flying boat shot forward like a meteor.

He didn’t even wait for Herbert’s reply anymore. In his mind, Herbert had already become an accomplice in the theft.

Lauren hurriedly added, “Gerald, send him our location.”

Gerald rolled his eyes but sent the message anyway, his tone thick with sarcasm. “Your two disciples stole something and eloped.”

On the other end, Herbert was dumbfounded. What the hell kind of nonsense was this?

He didn’t care about the supposed theft—but Timothy eloping with Indiana? That made his scalp prickle. He immediately changed direction and sped toward them.

As they chased, Lauren’s brows slowly furrowed. Wait. Isn’t this the direction back toward Sky-Covering Valley?

Briar had mentioned something about reinforcing a seal. Don’t tell her…

“They’re strengthening the seal at Sky-Covering Valley?” she muttered.

Her heart dropped. “Gerald!” she said abruptly. “You keep chasing them. I’m going down to the nearest teleportation array.”

Gerald glanced sideways. “You know where they’re going?”

“Just a guess. Please keep pressure on them.” Without waiting for a response, she grabbed Briar and jumped off mid-flight.

“Hey! Where are you taking Briar—” The rest of Gerald’s complaint was swallowed by the wind.

Lauren reached the nearest major city and immediately used the teleportation array to travel to Prague.

From Prague, Sky-Covering Valley was much closer. But she didn’t head there right away.

After a brief pause, she turned and went straight to the marketplace.

A short while later, she emerged… dragging a sheep. Briar stared at her. “You’re buying livestock at a time like this?”

“I don’t know if they’ll need to enter the valley to reinforce the seal,” Lauren replied calmly. “But I’m not walking into that place unprepared.”

Outside Sky-Covering Valley, Lauren released the sheep. Then she took out a jade pendant and quickly inscribed a message upon it.

The letter was addressed to Flower Wife and the others inside the valley.

She warned them that a woman who looked identical to her might appear—possessed by an alien spirit—and that this person intended to strengthen the seal of the valley.

She explained everything in brief but clear terms. If they couldn’t stop Indiana from entering, at least the people inside would know the truth.

And she trusted Light to deal with the rest. She tied the jade pendant to the sheep’s neck and gave it a light slap. “Go on.”

The sheep bleated and wandered toward the valley entrance.

......

Inside Sky-Covering Valley—

Butcher was crouched near a muddy patch, idly poking at frogs. Then—

“Baa—”

He froze. His nose twitched violently. His eyes widened. A sheep. An actual sheep.

His mind exploded with images—roast lamb skewers, crispy lamb chops, braised lamb spine—

His mouth flooded with saliva. “Hahaha… baa baa… I’m coming…”

He shot to his feet and dashed toward the sound. After the last two “incidents,” he had learned caution.

Before anyone else noticed, he grabbed the sheep and reached for its neck. Can’t risk saving it and then having someone steal it again.

He tightened his grip—

Just as he was about to snap its neck, a powerful palm strike slammed into his back.

“AHH—!” Butcher went flying, tumbling more than a dozen times before crashing into the dirt. When he looked up, he saw Light and Viper descending gracefully not far from the sheep.

Light stood dignified and serene. Viper’s eyes darted around, smug as ever.
