The hidden passage swallowed them one by one.

Lu Chen entered first.

Shen Tian followed several meters behind.

Rose walked beside him.

Ghost and Bear brought up the rear.

The moment they crossed the threshold...

The stone wall behind them slammed shut.

BOOOOOOM!

Darkness consumed everything.

Rose immediately stopped.

"...Great."

Ghost’s voice came from somewhere behind them.

"Door closed."

Bear sighed.

"Thanks, Ghost."

"You’re welcome."

Lu Chen ignored them.

His attention remained forward.

The darkness wasn’t natural.

Even with Spirit Perception...

He couldn’t see far.

Something inside the passage interfered with perception.

Ancient Qi saturated the walls.

Dense.

Cold.

Oppressive.

It almost felt...

Alive.

Lu Chen’s grip tightened around his sword.

The General’s Heart was ahead.

He knew it.

He could feel the resonance.

A rhythmic pulse.

Thump.

...

Thump.

...

Thump.

Like a heartbeat somewhere deep beneath the mountain.

His heartbeat gradually matched it.

Lu Chen smiled.

Finally.

This opportunity...

Was responding to him.

Not Shen Tian.

Not Rose.

Not anyone else.

Him.

[This one is mine.]

Rose heard the thought.

Her smile immediately faded.

Not because she cared who received the treasure.

Mostly because...

Lu Chen had learned absolutely nothing.

Rose glanced sideways.

Shen Tian walked casually beside her.

Heaven Piercing Spear resting against one shoulder.

Hands relaxed.

Green eyes calmly examining the corridor.

He didn’t even look excited.

Rose stared for half a second.

Then...

Shen Tian looked toward her.

She immediately looked ahead.

"What?"

Shen Tian raised an eyebrow.

"You tell me."

"I wasn’t doing anything."

"You were staring."

"I was looking."

"At me."

Rose paused.

Then...

"You’re very observant."

Shen Tian smiled.

"I know."

There it was again.

That shameless confidence.

Rose’s lips twitched.

"You really can’t accept a compliment normally, can you?"

"I accepted it perfectly."

"No."

"You said I’m observant."

"I agreed."

Rose laughed quietly.

Ahead...

Lu Chen’s hand tightened around his sword.

Again.

Every laugh.

Every casual conversation.

Every second Rose seemed comfortable around Shen Tian...

Irritated him.

More than it should have.

He told himself it was because she needed to focus.

Because they were inside unknown ruins.

Because Black Wolf discipline mattered.

Because Shen Tian was an outsider.

Because...

Anything.

Anything except admitting that watching one of his closest companions enjoy another man’s company bothered him.

Especially that man.

Shen Tian.

Lu Chen’s inner voice became darker.

[She barely knows him.]

Rose’s expression cooled.

[Why is she acting so comfortable?]

Her eyes narrowed.

[She’s Black Wolf.]

Rose almost stopped walking.

There it was.

Again.

Not...

Rose is my friend.

Not...

Rose should be careful.

She’s Black Wolf.

Like she was an asset.

A member of his organization before she was a person.

Rose slowly exhaled.

Then kept walking.

Shen Tian noticed.

"You okay?"

She looked toward him.

"Fine."

He stared.

Rose almost expected him to push.

Ask again.

Demand an explanation.

Instead...

Shen Tian simply nodded.

"Alright."

Then looked ahead.

That...

Annoyingly...

Made her feel better.

. . .

The passage continued downward.

Five minutes.

Ten.

Then...

The stone corridor opened.

A circular chamber waited.

No treasure.

No enemies.

No obvious exit.

Only...

Five stone doors.

Each marked with a symbol.

A sword.

A shield.

An eye.

A skull.

A crown.

Everyone stopped.

Bear stared.

"...Puzzle."

Ghost sighed.

"I’d rather fight."

Rose looked toward Lu Chen.

"Any idea?"

Lu Chen stepped toward the doors.

The heartbeat continued.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

His Fate connection pulled him toward...

The skull.

He felt it immediately.

Death.

Killing intent.

Battlefield resentment.

The path resonated with him.

Lu Chen smiled.

"This one."

He walked toward the skull door.

Shen Tian watched.

Xu Ning appeared beside him.

[Host.]

"Hm?"

[There are five trials.]

"Obviously."

[The skull is Lu Chen’s destined path.]

Shen Tian’s eyebrow rose.

"What about the others?"

Xu Ning examined the system.

[Each represents part of the ancient general’s heart.]

[Warrior.]

[Guardian.]

[Perception.]

[Death.]

[Sovereignty.]

Shen Tian’s green eyes moved toward the crown.

"And the crown?"

Xu Ning hesitated.

[Highest difficulty.]

Shen Tian smiled.

Rose noticed.

"Oh no."

He looked toward her.

"What?"

"That smile."

"What smile?"

"The one from earlier."

Shen Tian looked offended.

"I have a lot of smiles."

"The one that means you’re about to do something annoying."

"That’s vague."

Rose laughed.

Then saw where he was looking.

The crown door.

Her eyes narrowed.

"You’re choosing that one."

Shen Tian nodded.

"Probably."

Lu Chen immediately turned.

"No."

Silence.

Shen Tian slowly looked toward him.

"No?"

"The skull is the correct path."

"For you."

"It’s the path to the General’s Heart."

Shen Tian raised an eyebrow.

"How do you know?"

Lu Chen paused.

He couldn’t exactly say Fate was telling him.

"It’s instinct."

Shen Tian smiled.

"Then follow your instinct."

Lu Chen stared.

"You aren’t coming?"

"No."

Suspicion returned.

"You think the crown has something better."

"Maybe."

Lu Chen looked toward the crown door.

Then...

His pride reacted.

Of course.

If Shen Tian wanted that one...

Maybe the crown was superior.

Maybe he was trying to trick him.

Maybe the skull was only a secondary route.

His eyes narrowed.

"I’ll take the crown."

Rose slowly closed her eyes.

Shen Tian stared.

Then...

A smile appeared.

"Okay."

Lu Chen froze.

That response bothered him more.

"What?"

"Take it."

Lu Chen stared harder.

"You were going to choose it."

"Yes."

"And now you’re letting me?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

Shen Tian smiled.

"I changed my mind."

Rose immediately knew.

So did Ghost.

Bear looked confused.

Lu Chen’s suspicion exploded.

[He’s planning something.]

Rose heard.

She almost laughed.

[He wants me to take the crown.]

[Meaning it’s probably a trap.]

Rose bit her lip.

Lu Chen looked toward the skull.

Then crown.

Then Shen Tian.

Finally...

He pointed toward the skull.

"We take that one."

Rose turned away.

Her shoulders shook.

Lu Chen’s eye twitched.

"Rose."

She cleared her throat.

"Yes?"

"What’s funny?"

"Nothing."

Shen Tian looked toward her.

She immediately started laughing again.

Lu Chen’s face darkened.

Shen Tian smiled.

"After you."

Lu Chen pushed open the skull door.

It groaned.

Darkness waited beyond.

He entered.
