Daekol was good, of that there was no doubt. Dragon-Lex wasn’t looking down on the fellow. There was no doubt that he was, in fact, the most formidable enemy Dragon-Lex had ever faced. Did that mean that Daekol got special privileges, such as performing sacrilegious acts? Never!
What else was it when Daekol used a unique type of flame in Dragon-Lex’s presence? Sacrilege and nothing less! To have the audacity to flaunt flames in front of a dragon? It was as if Daekol had gone out of his way to specifically request death at Dragon-Lex’s earliest convenience.
If Dao Intentions resonated with every action that Lex took in his normal form, then in his Dragon-Lex form the effect was much more pronounced. Thus, when Dragon-Lex flapped his wings, his Dao Intentions aided in increasing his speed, adding to the element of surprise.
Moreover, when he appeared behind Daekol, even though he hadn’t acted yet, the Dao Intentions were already resonating with his intentions of challenging Daekol’s flames directly.
Dragon-Lex unleashed his Golden Inferno, unleashed a torrent of brilliant, golden flames at point blank.
While the flames themselves carried a destructive force that could cause even stars to destabilize, the true danger in the flames was caused by the Dao Intentions. Daekolo, even cut off from the universe, had experience in law manipulation that non-Sovereigns just couldn’t get.
His self made blue flames directly attacked the most fundamental parts of the universe, causing laws themselves to misbehave. That was not the kind of thing just anybody could pull off. He could cause damage to Lex’s body, even if it was only minor damage, despite him having a 51% Primordial Dao Body. The number of Immortals who could achieve such a thing in the universe were... who knew? But certainly it was not many.
It was an undeniable fact that Daekol was extremely formidable, and not just because he had been born with an incredible advantage. It was his dedication, hard work, and wisdom that had allowed him to get this far. Oh, and there was one more thing that helped him along the way.
When the golden flames incinerated their way to him, threatening even to burn his blues flames that were supposed to distort laws themselves, Daekol did something he had never done before. He used his system to help him in a fight.
His body was suddenly garbed in a thin, protective robe that looked more like a bathrobe than armor. That didn’t change the fact that the flames were entirely resisted by them.
Things like pride were an obstacle in the pursuit of goals, at least in Daekol’s opinion. That had not prevented him from avoiding the direct aid of his system in a fight before today. But when the need arose, there was no resistance or delay. He used it just in time to protect himself from suffering significant harm.
Daekol looked at his system interface and read its title: the Debt System. Anything and everything in the universe had a price, whether that price was literal or metaphysical. Whether he himself was the debtor or the creditor, the limit of things which could be borrowed or loaned were limited only by his system’s rank. His current S ranked system allowed him to borrow or lend many things, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy him. Moreover, the rewards of his quests were also limited by the rank of his own system.
For example, this robe he wore was merely a one time use item that could protect him. It was good enough for now.
He looked at his system, and borrowed the knowledge required to handle and counter a Dao Body from the catalog of things he could borrow. The knowledge itself, naturally, could not be returned so to pay off this debt he would need to pay with something of equivalent value - or accumulate enough debtors to take on the burden of his debt in his place. Regardless, that was a matter for later.
For now, he looked at Lex and immediately understood that the effects of his Dao Body were beyond a normal Dao Body. It didn’t matter.
Daekol activated an ability called Forced Debt, and transferred his own debt to Lex.
Dragon-Lex, who was in the middle of breathing fire, suddenly paused as he did something he hadn’t done since he stepped onto the path of cultivation. He hiccuped, and with great force.
Confusion filled his eyes as he looked at Daekol, and felt a strange weight in the center of his chest - as if his very soul had picked up an invisible weight.
"I will admit, of everyone I have faced, you really are the best," said Daekol as the silk robe on his body faded away. "Now you will have to face the consequences of being so great."
The fight suddenly entered into a whole new territory, because Dragon-Lex could not understand what it was that Daekol had done. Of course, such a feeling also gave him a clear answer as to what it could be. Daekol had just used a system.
All across the universe, countless Dao Lords were watching the fight. Lex’s utterance of the word Abaddon had been heard across the universe, spreading knowledge of a secret that had been hidden for too long.
For some strange reason, though, Daekol’s use of his system remained entirely undetected by almost all the Dao Lords. It was as if they sensed nothing unusual with his actions at all, and instead they saw perfectly reasonable and explainable sequences of events.
The only Dao Lords who did sense something unusual were the ones with systems themselves, Eclipse and only a very few other Dao Lords who already happened to know of the existence of systems for various reasons. What had been so easily missed by so many other Dao Lords was as plain as day to them, as if there was some secret at work that only they could see through.
If only Daekol knew that he had inadvertently revealed one of his greatest secrets.
