Chapter 1592: Chapter 1592: Scavenging

Yue Qiyuan fell silent.

Shen Changqing said, "This thing isn’t just rare, it also has quite a few side effects."

Yue Qiyuan asked, "What side effects?"

Shen Changqing said, "My grandpa’s archive casually mentioned it, but there’s no detailed record on it. I dug through a lot of material and couldn’t find any relevant information. However, in the notes left behind by some unknown researcher at the Alliance Research Institute who’s already dead, I found a few lines and inferred that because the energy of this thing is too high, and it also has a lot of other uses, with the level of technology humans currently have, we still can’t uncover the specific functions of the Crystal Core. So actually, even though in theory this Star Beast Crystal Core could power one of our large Starships for over 100 years, but—"

"We can’t use it yet?" Yue Qiyuan prompted.

"Right." Shen Changqing nodded and said, "This thing hasn’t been officially put into use yet; it’s still in the research stage."

At this point, a trace of worry flashed in Shen Changqing’s eyes as he said, "I went through massive amounts of data, sifted through countless files, and discovered that 50 years ago, the Human Alliance suddenly and urgently halted all research on Crystal Cores."

Yue Qiyuan was stunned: "How come we don’t know about this?"

Shen Changqing said, "That’s the problem. It’s not just us of the new generation who don’t know that Crystal Core research was banned—we don’t even know what a Crystal Core actually is."

In fact, the vast majority of humans, whether from 50 years ago or 50 years later, have no idea that there’s a thing in this world called a Crystal Core.

Everyone only knows that Star Beasts are extremely vile, the source of all human tragedy.

But—

They don’t know that inside the body of a Star Beast, something this insanely powerful as an energy Crystal Core is produced!

This—

Isn’t that strange?

Shen Changqing found it extremely strange, and he couldn’t help spinning out all kinds of associations. The more he thought about it, the more anxious he became.

What kind of Strength could completely bury the existence of Crystal Cores?

There’s no other answer. Only all of humanity’s political entities—whether the Alliance, the Galaxy Empire, the Blue Star United States, or every other region... coming together to make a joint decision!

Only that could fully erase the existence of Crystal Cores.

So what terrifying function do Crystal Cores have, that requires all humans to coordinate and cooperate just to pull this off?

Shen Changqing couldn’t figure it out, and neither could Yue Qiyuan.

The two of them stared at the screen, at the Star Beast Group still tearing each other apart over a single Level 12 Crystal Core inside a Star Beast’s body, and seemed to faintly grasp something.

...

The humans had already pulled far away from the Battle Center. Even Ji You and He Bi, who just now had been in extreme danger and almost ended up as beast food, now found the surroundings quiet, with only a few scattered Star Beasts left.

He Bi stopped, then casually tossed Ji You, who’d been wedged under his armpit.

Ji You rolled, landed perfectly, braced her body, and stared into the distance, suddenly itching to howl a few times!

She opened her mouth wide, eyes bulging: "Holy crap! Just straight-up holy crap! One kill wipes out a whole patch of them. If I’d known we could collapse them from the inside like this, I would’ve done it ages ago!"

He Bi shot her a sideways glance and said, "If you’d done it ages ago, your ashes would already be buried inside there."

Ji You snorted, "Not necessarily. Also—"

Ji You took a few steps back, pinching her nose with a disgusted face. "You stink. Don’t stand so close to me."

He Bi: "..."

"Seriously, how can someone that smelly have zero self-awareness?" Ji You grumbled on and on, with disgust written all over her face.

He Bi took a deep breath and said, "Do you have any idea how smelly you are? And you still have the nerve to complain about me? Enough with the nonsense. While they’re still going at it over there, move! Once the fight’s over, we won’t even be able to run!"

They were right on the fringe of the Battle Center, and those Star Beasts that had gone completely berserk could probably squash them with one careless swipe.

The two of them had no Mecha and no other tools to use, relying only on their own Strength to pull away bit by bit—nowhere near the speed of X-N3848.

Just then—

A rustling sound came closer. Ji You and He Bi tensed up, only to hear Chu Jiaojiao lower her voice and say, "It’s me. Ji You, Senior He Bi, I’m here to pick you up."

Ji You focused her gaze and almost burst out laughing. She saw Chu Jiaojiao, Mecha and all, hiding under the belly of a dead monster, only a pair of eyes sticking out.

Next to this Star Beast corpse was another one, slightly smaller. Yue Qiguang was piloting his Mecha, hiding under the Star Beast’s tail. That tail, fluffy like a squirrel’s, had an especially thick coat of fur—perfect for hiding.

Ji You chuckled, "Nice idea. How’d you two come up with it?" As she spoke, she smacked her own forehead. "Why didn’t I think of that?"

Chu Jiaojiao let out a goofy laugh. "Learned it from you, Ji You. Come on—I’ll give you guys the Mecha. Move in closer."

He Bi and Ji You immediately moved closer.

Chu Jiaojiao and Yue Qiguang struggled to drag the Star Beast corpse toward Ji You and He Bi.

Everyone moved with extreme caution, and the handoff was completed in no time.

Ji You and He Bi both got back their own Mecha. Now they had something to rely on, felt more secure, and weren’t quite so spooked.

Then Ji You stared at the huge Star Beast corpse in front of her, eyes shining. "Level 10, huh! Growing this big must’ve taken at least several decades, maybe a hundred years. Dying like this—it’s such a waste."

"Sigh!"

"Such a waste," Ji You said, and suddenly dove into the Star Beast’s head region, only to find someone had beaten her to it and was already pulling out its teeth.

Ji You: "..."

He Bi said with a straight face, "If we just leave it alone, it turns into space trash. Better we put in a bit of effort and break down anything useful."

Ji You, hearing that, immediately followed suit with a straight face. "Exactly! Space trash—everyone should pitch in and pick it up!"

Chu Jiaojiao and Yue Qiguang: "..."

At a time like this, you two are still thinking about scavenging junk?

He Bi said, "We’re not just picking things up—we’re doing targeted clean-up. Anything that’s especially damaging to the cosmic environment needs to be picked up first."

Ji You said, "Great minds think alike."

Chu Jiaojiao and Yue Qiguang: "..."

Yue Qiguang cursed, "Your dad thinks you two are actually the most destructive pieces of trash in the entire Universe."

Ji You and He Bi couldn’t be bothered to respond to Yue Qiguang. Ji You turned to Chu Jiaojiao and said, "Jiaojiao, you and Yue Qiguang head back to the spaceship right away and rendezvous with Shen Changqing and the others. Then you can cover us when we all charge for the Space Rift."

"..." Chu Jiaojiao said speechlessly, "You two really are going to go scavenging together, huh?"

"Yeah." Ji You said in a low voice, "There are some things we absolutely have to bring back."

Chu Jiaojiao’s heart jolted. In the next instant, she realized what they meant. "You’re going to grab—"

"Shh—" Ji You cut her off, lowering her voice to stop whatever Chu Jiaojiao was about to say next. "For the sake of cosmic environmental protection, we have to do something."

He Bi said, "Cosmic environmental protection, it’s our duty."
