The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1997: Shining Brighter For Once

No change in the wind.

Only a small disturbance in the immortal energy in the air.

Lilliana moved blisteringly fast without causing any destruction despite her speed and reached the creature in terrible dread. She cradled its head gently, but her thin claws pierced through the exoskeleton like it was butter, while her eyes gleamed with a whitish hue of a soul.

"Your soul is already mine."

For a suspended moment, the creature’s pupils dilated, focusing on the movements inside her eyes.

It saw two writhing souls that were wailing and circling around the inside as if her eyes were a prison.

And what struck deep was the fact that one of these souls was its soul.

Crack—!

Lilliana curled her fingers tighter into the exoskeleton protecting the creature’s head, and then pulled it apart violently. It cracked open, revealing the head that was now utterly exposed. Her lips curled into a devious smirk as she kicked away, avoiding a swipe.

She landed a distance away gently.

But then the moment her feet touched the sand, she disappeared.

Swoosh—!

A vortex of green sand rapidly rose, encircling the creature completely.

Sensing imminent danger like the opening of death’s door, the creature charged straight forward in order to break through the vortex. Its terrible green eyes widened when a flash of white streaked from the far end of the vortex, and then a massive force slammed into its chest.

Lilliana hammered her claws into its chest, cracking the bone armour, and sent the creature rolling away.

It recovered quickly, but another swipe came from the side.

From the back.

From above.

From below.

Every single time the creature recovered from an attack, Lilliana was already upon it with another.

Under ten seconds, it already endured ten brutal attacks.

Now—the exoskeleton that was covering its entire body was already cracked. One hit away from being shattered into bone fragments. Even then, the creature’s survival instinct was still kicking as it slammed its curving claw into the sand.

Like liquid, the exoskeleton that was spread across its entire body was pulled to that curving claw.

It gained mass until it turned into a massive bone shield.

Clang—!

Clang—!

Thud—!

Lilliana attacked multiple times, and surprisingly enough, the bone shield held.

It was harder than the exoskeleton ever was, and her attacks didn’t seem to be able to damage it. Slowly but surely, the creature made its way to leave the encircling vortex. And with the bone shield—it might be able to succeed.

But Lilliana didn’t think so.

Several miles away from the vortex, there was an astral white figure poised on one knee.

It was another Lilliana, or rather, her soul.

For the entire time she clashed with the creature, her soul had been poised in this position, gathering as much energy into her claws as she possibly could. The battle had raged on for minutes, and the energy inside her claws was now ridiculous.

So much so that her claws had turned crystalline.

Almost like the energy she gathered was so dense that her astral body was made into a tangible thing.

From the distance, Lilliana’s fleshy body landed near her soul and skidded back.

She pressed deeper into the alignment, lowering herself until body and soul became one seamless shape. The moment they merged, power flooded her claws, and her eyes ignited with a sharp green light. Then she blasted forward.

Lilliana could see the landscape warped around her from how fast she was going.

Could feel the air rushing against her skin and fur.

Could feel the sand made way underneath her with each powerful stomp.

And could even feel the energy in her claws pulsate with the rhythm of her footsteps.

It felt like she had been running for more than a minute from her perspective—but in reality, her charge was less than a second. She blasted through the vortex of green sand and saw the creature on the other side, already a few steps away from leaving.

Despite how fast she was moving, its sixth sense noticed the danger and flexed its muscles.

But it didn’t matter.

Clang—!

Lilliana’s claws struck the bone shield with a thunderous clanging sound.

"Soulspeed Fusillade!"

Her claws detonated with energy, and in the next second, a hundred splashes erupted.

On the other side, the creature’s body jerked and twisted—left, right, back, forward—as though caught in a brutal dance with the relentless splash of energy. Its exoskeleton shattered. Flesh tore open. Bones snapped. Even its internal organs burst apart.

Lilliana’s body turned astral and warped through the creature’s body and emerged on the other side.

She skidded forward until the momentum died, and then straightened her back.

And the moment her spine straightened, the creature came apart—unravelling into big chunks of meat and shattered bone. Along with it was the dispersion of the green sand vortex, collapsing into the air. It was then Lilliana glanced over her shoulder, confirming the kill, then turned her gaze forward again.

Her eyes met with another pair.

Davina descended from above, staring at Lilliana in shock, and she didn’t even bother hiding it.

"What?"

"How are you able to do that...?"

Considering what had happened, Davina’s shock was natural.

Both of them were barely qualified as Demigods, while the creatures were unquestionably Demigods—as they were the inhabitants of the Sundial Arch, a realm that fell under the Weaver of Time. Any entity birthed and raised within the God Realm was a Demigod from its first breath.

And yet, despite the obvious disparity in divinity, Lilliana managed to kill them.

Not beat these creatures, but kill them.

Such a thing shouldn’t be possible for someone like her with very low divinity points.

Just seconds ago, Lilliana had unleashed a hundred slashes in the span of a fraction of a heartbeat—an ability Davina had never seen from her before. And she would know—She had fought beside Lilliana more times than she could count.

And that includes the battles she did in the God Realm.

"I don’t really know. Still learning about my bloodline’s powers." Lilliana looked down at her own body like it was not hers, and then reverted back to her regular form. "I can fuse with a soul, and even use an ability that I wasn’t aware that I could. If I were to guess, it should be because I absorbed their souls."

Lilliana was quite sure those two creatures were the owners of those two souls she freed.

They attacked her because she was the one who tampered—with the Space-Time Soul Prisons. Crystals that had contained their souls. As someone who had devoured their souls through the Soul Fusion skill that she instinctively knew, she also became capable of harming them.

A soul is the core of all living beings, so she could ignore the gap.

Bypassing the disparity between their divinity.

Or at least, that was what she thought happened.

Besides, the Soul Fusion had boosted her physical stats greatly, so that might be another reason for it.

Davina smiled inwardly, and then held Lilliana’s hand.

"You saved my life earlier, and I’m grateful for it." She said with a gentle tone.

For a heartbeat, Lilliana went rigid. She had never believed this day could come. Saving her little sister who was the genius of the empire had always felt like a high fantasy. There was never supposed to be a moment where Davina needed saving, let alone by her.

But that day was possible; it existed, and it had arrived sooner than expected.

Lilliana felt a shiver running down her spine as she realized what exactly had happened.

For once in her entire life, she managed to outshine Davina.

It was revitalizing.

It was the one thing she was always hoping to come true.

Jealousy wasn’t the drive. She didn’t want to surpass Davina or steal her light. She only wanted to prove to herself once that she could do it, since no one else ever had—that she could be someone. That if she put her mind to it, she was capable of more than the silence around her had always suggested.

"Did I?" Lilliana played with her hair. "I guess I did. Should I get at least a kiss on the cheek?"

"No need to be annoying about it," Davina crossed her arms and turned. "It’s a rare occasion."

Pardon the sisterly love, but can you girls help me now? I’m feeling numb already!

Rex was happy that the two were completely fine and even defeated the creatures, but he was still locked in a time stasis. He was already starting to lose sense of his entire body. It was a numbness—that he had never felt before.

It wasn’t the numbness of blood failing to reach a limb.

More like a numbness that came from losing all senses entirely.

Even now, he was already losing his eyesight and feelings across his entire body.

And his hearing was also slowly fading away, which was why he decided to intervene and reminded the sisters that he was still trapped. Soon enough, if he was still trapped in this time stasis—he would need to rely on the System to know what’s going on around him.

"You can’t even give me time to soak in what happened?

"Ah, right. I forgot about you."

Lilliana stood behind Rex and placed both palms against his back.

She closed her eyes and reached for Rex’s soul.

For a moment, her mind emptied entirely. Soul-light seeped from her palms—as she reached into Rex’s body, searching for his soul deep inside. ’I’ll weave one of the devoured souls into a shield layer around his soul. But I must be careful. One misstep, and his soul will be damaged.’

A soul is incredibly sensitive; she knew at least that much.

So, she needed to be careful.

Especially considering that this was her first time ever doing something like this.

Reaching for the soul and tampering with it was solely the ability of her bloodline that she wasn’t really familiar with. In fact, she didn’t know anything much about its capabilities up until this moment, so she really needed to take it slow.

Slowly, the darkness faded away, and replacing it was something else entirely.

A battlefield with dozens of horizontal trenches stretching as far as the eyes can see.

Gunpowder, smoke, and blood mingled in the air, making it acrid.

Lilliana’s brows furrowed as she wasn’t expecting to see this. She walked between the trenches and saw the inside was a pit of darkness. Nothing could be seen, and it looked bottomless. And as she went deeper and deeper, she finally found what she was looking for.

Found Rex’s soul.

It was facing away across from her with its back straight and arms on the sides.

"His soul... is really big."

Moments later, Lilliana opened her eyes.

"How did it go?" Davina asked curiously. "Everything well?’

"I-It went well." Lilliana nodded, but there was something else on her face that Davina couldn’t quite understandl ike she had seen something that she should never have seen. "I created another layer around his soul using the creature’s soul. Should be more than enough age to endure the formation."

Just as she said that, the translucent time stasis’ grip around Rex began to be visible.

And with an uneven shrug of his shoulders, it cracked and shattered into a hundred fragments.

Rex was finally freed.

"I can feel again..." He muttered inwardly, soaking in the overload of senses that had been taken away from him earlier. He inhaled deeply and turned to face Davina. "As my supposed fiancé, how could you forget about me like that?"

"Don’t be dramatic. You’ve suffered worse before."

"Is that how it is? Because I’ve suffered worse, then it’s fine?’

"You’re twisting my words. Fine, I’m sorry."

Rex sneered and then turned toward Lilliana, who was strangely silent.

She was looking at him in a different way than normal.

"What?" He tilted his head a little. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
