Chapter 1359: Chapter 1359: Reciprocity
Zhao Qingtang turned her body away, facing Lin Tian with her back, yet she could still feel a fiery gaze watching her, a sensation that was scorching.
When Zhao Qingtang cautiously turned her head back again, Lin Tian was still looking at her. Nervous, Zhao Qingtang instinctively swept the hair by her ear, assuming the demeanor of a young girl.
This scene truly turned Zhao Xuefeng and Hu Gaofei’s worldview upside down. When did the female PhD, Zhao Qingtang, exhibit the demeanor of a young girl? It must be said, it was indeed quite beautiful.
Zhao Qingtang holds high standards and strict requirements for her other half; a person who isn’t a high-achiever or whose medical skills aren’t superior to hers is a no-go. These two criteria alone have excluded countless talented young men, even recommendations from Xu Wan have been useless.
In reality, Zhao Qingtang has met two or three decent guys, but she always behaved like a straightforward woman, not the least bit gentle and virtuous—compared to the current scene, it was like night and day.
Although saying it like this is somewhat exaggerated, the Zhao Qingtang in their impression had never been this shy; look at that delicate face, it’s all red.
Hu Gaofei grinned at Zhao Xuefeng, raising his eyebrows, as if saying: Zhao, oh Zhao, your granddaughter and this boy have something going on!
Witnessing this scene, Zhao Xuefeng’s heart was also in turmoil.
When Lin Tian was recuperating from illness at Luoyan Dock, Zhao Qingtang insisted on staying, but Zhao Xuefeng couldn’t discern her daughterly affection?
Agreeing to let her stay back then was to have her realize the difficulties and retreat.
Yet now it seems, did something happen during that month that I don’t know about?
Not only did she not retreat, but instead advanced?
In this awkward situation, Zhao Xuefeng believes Zhao Qingtang can handle it herself; it’s better for him not to intervene. Pretend he hadn’t seen this scene.
"Cough, cough!" Zhao Xuefeng cleared his throat, coughing heavily twice, pulling Lin Tian out from his thoughts, which indeed were quite numerous just now.
Lin Tian didn’t know that his glance had already led to misunderstandings among the three, so he just stood up and said in an unaffected manner, "Let’s go eat; I’m hungry anyway."
Lin Tian was indeed hungry; like Hu Gaofei, he had long smelled the fragrance of the dishes making him hungry. How could a few cups of tea satisfy?
At the table were six people sitting at a round table, with steaming dumplings and plates full of delectable dishes before them. The wait was well worth it.
After Zhao Xuefeng started eating, Lin Tian also started; he just wanted to have a couple of bites of the dishes to prepare his stomach when Hu Gaofei stopped him.
"Lin Tian, don’t rush into eating yet; let’s make a toast first. We are amongst friends, let’s drink casually. But this liquor, it’s more enjoyable when gulped," Hu Gaofei said.
Bowing to the elder’s wishes, Lin Tian naturally had no objections, clinking cups with Hu Gaofei, then taking a large sip, wanting to experience what enjoyment Hu Gaofei talked about.
As the liquor swirled in his mouth, Lin Tian suddenly felt a fiery sensation rampaging through his mouth, like a live fish inside.
Instinctively, Lin Tian swallowed that mouthful of liquor.
With the liquor going down the throat, the fiery sensation intensified, feeling indescribable, almost like gulping two large mouthfuls of cola at once, suffocating yet exceptionally exhilarating.
"What, what is this liquor?" Lin Tian asked as he looked at the liquor in his cup.
Hu Gaofei and Zhao Xuefeng exchanged glances and both laughed heartily, like children triumphing in a prank.
Xu Wan rolled her eyes at them and explained to Lin Tian, "That’s homemade medicinal liquor from Mr. Hu, it’s strong; normally I drink it in small sips."
Lin Tian was well aware of Xu Wan’s drinking capacity; when he first visited Zhao Xuefeng’s house, they had a drinking challenge. His mentor’s wife indeed had a remarkable drinking capacity.
Her saying so now definitely meant that the liquor was high in strength, with a potent aftereffect; it seemed he got tricked by Mr. Hu and his teacher now!
Mr. Hu said, "This medicinal liquor is made from a recipe passed down by ancestors, quite precious indeed; if it wasn’t for being happy today, I wouldn’t have taken it out. Lin Tian, you should drink more."
At this point, Mr. Hu leaned in a bit and whispered to Lin Tian’s ear, "It’s invigorating."
"..."
Liou Qingcheng curiously observed Hu Gaofei. She knew him as her pharmacology professor, usually meticulous in class, his face rarely showed a smile, much like Zhao Xuefeng.
Unexpectedly, in private, he was like a child; was the earlier act a mischief?
Curious about the whispered exchange between Mr. Hu and Lin Tian, Liou Qingcheng then asked with a smile, "Mr. Hu, what are you whispering about?"
A beauty always leaves a deep impression, and among the few students Mr. Hu knew, Liou Qingcheng, with her high comprehension and excellent grades, was unique. After all, he faced many students daily and couldn’t possibly recognize all.
"Haha, nothing much, just telling him to drink more; it helps improve sleep among other benefits, just take my word and drink more," Mr. Hu said with a smile.
"Is it really that good?" Liou Qingcheng also raised her cup and took a sip, the stimulating sensation spreading from the mouth to the lungs brought a refreshing feeling indeed.
Liou Qingcheng exhaled and then remarked, "Mr. Hu, your liquor would surely sell well!"
Hu Gaofei responded somewhat smugly, "This liquor isn’t for sale; it’s a precious thing."
Zhao Xuefeng followed up, "He treats this liquor as a treasure; bringing it out today was already quite something, selling it is out of the question."
Hu Gaofei squinted in laughter and added, "But if you and Lin Tian like it, I can give you some. Don’t feel shy about it."
Lin Tian knew it’s a reciprocation; he gave his mentor co-authorship opportunities, being gifted medicinal liquor in return was a gesture indeed.
"Elder’s invitation isn’t to be refused; we certainly won’t hold back. Hope Mr. Hu won’t regret it later," Lin Tian said.
"Haha, not at all," Hu Gaofei said waving his hand.
Certainly not, compared to the co-authorship on "Lancet" papers, some jars of liquor were exceedingly cheap indeed.
Suddenly, Lin Tian noticed someone missing from the table and asked, "By the way, where is Mr. Zhao?"
Lin Tian referred to Zhao Qingtang’s father, Zhang Youling’s husband, who was absent from Zhao Xuefeng’s family. As a junior, he naturally showed concern.
Zhao Xuefeng replied, "He is still at the research institute; he won’t be back anytime soon. But during the holidays, you’ll get to meet him."
