Chapter 1366: Chapter 1366: Heartless
Qiu Wen chased after him and nobody stopped her.
Liou Qingcheng and Sisi both wanted to stop her. Having been roommates for a year, they knew Qiu Wen’s personality all too well—fragile yet stubborn, once she made up her mind, not even ten oxen could hold her back.
Just let her go. She’s an adult now, let her hit a wall, get a bloody nose, and cry her eyes out.
Let her recognize the reality of this world. Besides, she betrayed Li and should experience the feeling of being abandoned. Maybe she’ll cherish love more in the future and love herself more.
Of course, that’s the good scenario.
If things develop in another direction, Qiu Wen might hit rock bottom and fall into the mire of society.
This second scenario is something Liou Qingcheng and Sisi dare not think about, nor do they wish it upon Qiu Wen.
Lin Tian looked at the bloodstains on the smooth tiles left by Qiu Wen’s knees, and thought of the deceased Li Li. They were pitiable women alike.
They say there’s always something despicable about pitiable people, and Lin Tian agrees with this. Because it applies to Li Li and Qiu Wen; abandoning love to choose life—who among them can truly find happiness?
Watching Qiu Wen leave, everyone remained silent. Their emotions were complex; reality is truly ironic!
"Principal, I’ll follow her to see," Mr. Yang said.
"Alright, then sorry to trouble Mr. Yang for taking care of this," Zhao Xuefeng said.
As the second officer, they must ensure Qiu Wen’s personal safety. With her current mental state, who can guarantee that nothing will happen along the way? At least Zhao Xuefeng doesn’t dare to bet on it.
Yang Wei was indeed the best choice to volunteer. Firstly, she’s a teacher and can distinguish priorities, and secondly, her gentle nature is conducive to guiding Qiu Wen and doing some mental work.
Mr. Yang, with small steps, chased after them. Zhao Xuefeng shouted to everyone, "Alright, alright, it’s fine now, everyone return to your seats. The dishes are about to be served. Today is our class’s first gathering, we should be happy."
Hu Gaofei stood aside and said with a smile, "Exactly, let’s all go back to our seats. But later when toasting, be mindful. Also, let me share a little secret: our Mr. Zhao can really hold his liquor. Whoever likes Mr. Zhao, remember to have a drink with him later."
Zhao Xuefeng is now the principal of Kanyue City Medical University; typically students will greet him with "Hello, Principal." But class 42 is still the same as before, calling him Mr. Zhao, and some even call him Mr. Zhao to sound more intimate.
Hu Gaofei’s words instantly lightened the awkward atmosphere left by Qiu Wen and Huang He. Hearing about Mr. Zhao’s drinking capability had the male students howling.
This is human nature: indifferent to things that don’t involve oneself, Qiu Wen might leave a deep impression on them, but not many truly care about her.
The atmosphere returned to its previous liveliness, and everyone sat back down at their seats.
At this moment, the waiter pushed the food cart, carrying cold dishes and appetizers, and walked up.
The sounds of clinking glasses, laughter and boasting filled the air, bustling with excitement.
Li sat on the chair, with fingers intertwined, not drinking nor moving his chopsticks, like a wooden piece out of place with the surroundings.
"Li," Xv Qinghuan called out.
"What’s up?" Li smiled at her.
"Later let’s toast to the teachers, just the two of us, I graduated, and opportunities to see them will be rare," Xv Qinghuan said.
Li nodded without hesitation, "Sure, let’s toast more."
"Can you hold your liquor well?"
"It’s average, I can drink three or four bottles of beer, not great," Li replied.
For some reason, the conversation between Li and Xv Qinghuan did not flow smoothly; otherwise, with his reserved nature, why would he engage in awkward chit-chat in front of such a beautiful girlfriend?
"I feel like having a smoke," Li proactively said, though his reliance on cigarettes is low, like Lin Tian. Whenever he’s with Xv Qinghuan, he hasn’t touched cigarettes. It’s just suddenly he wants a couple of drags now.
"Go ahead." Xv Qinghuan smiled and nodded, then used her chopsticks to grab two pieces of roast duck, devouring them while saying, "I’ll eat a bit first; I’m starving."
"Alright." Li agreed and moved the chair before heading for the hotel’s corridor; he needed some air.
When Li left his seat, Xv Qinghuan put down her chopsticks too, angled her beautiful face watching Li’s retreating back, feeling uneasy in her heart.
She’s not naive; she can tell that Li’s disinclination for conversation certainly involves Qiu Wen—there’s still a lingering tie in their relationship.
Though Xv Qinghuan felt a sour pang inside, she still remained optimistic: with this situation, maybe killing him later wouldn’t feel that painful?
...
Kanyue City is characterized by a temperate monsoon climate; in summer, affected by the southeast monsoon, it’s a season of high temperature and heavy rain.
The sky had been radiant, the sunset looked lovely. But at some point, massive dark clouds drifted over Kanyue City, shrouding the sky, dimming the daylight a little.
As Li went outside for air on the corridor, he could feel the strong wind, its coolness flapping his T-shirt, a comfort cooler than air conditioning.
He just took out his cigarette when he suddenly saw a distant lightning flash in the sky, two seconds later, the rumbling thunder followed closely.
Compared to the lingering spring drizzles, Li prefers the short and fierce summer downpours, for unknown reasons, just because he likes them.
The spot where Li stood happened to offer a view of Student Street, along with a nearby compact parking lot. With the impending heavy rain, Student Street, bustling just moments ago, suddenly turned quiet, with many people retreating inside to avoid the rain.
By the roadside, a black BMW was parked, and beside it, two women and one man were tugging at each other; they were Yang Wei, Qiu Wen, and Huang He.
Li lighted the cigarette in his mouth, narrowed his eyes watching the scenario unfold.
Suddenly someone tapped Li on his shoulder; he turned around to see Lin Tian and Meng Nan.
"Don’t look at me like that, it’s too stifling inside. You’re smart, sneaking out for a smoke, but didn’t invite your buddies," Lin Tian chuckled, then mimicked Li’s leaning against the railing.
"Exactly, exactly," Meng Nan stood on Li’s other side, "Give me a cigarette!"
Li smiled, handed over the entire pack of cigarettes and the lighter.
Seconds later, the three brothers leaned against the railing, intermittently puffing on cigarettes, coldly observing the tug-of-war beside the BMW.
Whrr~
The BMW sped away, leaving behind a disheveled Qiu Wen. She slumped to the ground, buried her head in her knees, and began to cry loudly. Yang Wei squatted by her side, gently patting her back, softly offering comfort.
"Truly heartless," Li’s voice drifted with the wind.
