The King of Urban Mercenaries

Chapter 1796 - 1801: Utter Absurdity

"Miss, you finally came out. Did you get the things?" Uncle Xiao looked at Lin Fei and the Miss coming out together and immediately approached them.

Lin Fei then realized that they actually came out from another stone door. This was so concealed, really impressive!

"Got it, let’s go." Gai Xiaolian said, then she took Lin Fei with her and started walking toward the extraction point.

Following Gai Xiaolian, Lin Fei left the vault. There was no choice; this place wasn’t his territory, and on someone else’s turf, one must listen to others. Lin Fei remembered a song, which seemed to say just that.

With Gai Xiaolian leading the way, Lin Fei walked in the distance. He didn’t know where they were headed, though he sensed it might not be a good place, at least for him.

At the same time, Lin Fei didn’t know that someone in the shadows had already noticed him. And Lin Fei definitely knew this person—it was Liu Neng.

After this group left, they went to observe from a distance, intending to rescue Shang Ma Dao. However, they stopped eventually because, aside from being outnumbered, they had no strong fighters. More importantly, they discovered a secret: Lin Fei was with the Second Young Master. This news was absolutely explosive, and they immediately concluded that Lin Fei must be an insider among them!

Otherwise, how could their operation fail? They had multiple successful experiences before, and there was no possible way to fail so easily. So they pinned all the blame on Lin Fei.

"I really didn’t expect Lin Fei to actually be a spy! It’s all my fault! This whole issue is my fault! If it weren’t for me, Big Brother wouldn’t..." Liu Neng felt extremely guilty.

"Liu Neng! Stop feeling sad. Our leader is still okay, right? Let’s figure out how to rescue him first, then we’ll think of a way to kill that bastard!" A brother said beside him.

"Right! Save the leader!" The others spoke in agreement.

"But how can we rescue him with just us?" Liu Neng asked, knowing they had no chance of winning. Without Shang Ma Dao, they immediately felt like the backbone was gone, with no idea what to do.

"Why don’t we break into the prison?" a brother suggested.

"No, no! We might manage the lower-level prison, but with the people we have, there’s no way we can get into the mid-level prison!" Liu Neng said.

"So what do we do? We can’t just sit and wait for death, right?" the brothers said.

"Looks like we have to ask the Old Master for help!" Liu Neng said.

"Old Master? Can he help? Besides, the Old Master hasn’t dealt with affairs for a long time. Didn’t he tell us not to bother him? Would he care about our lives?" a brother expressed doubt.

"What else can we do? We don’t have other options, so we can only try our luck! After all, the Old Master was once the City Guardian General. He has good connections; we can at least give it a shot!" Liu Neng said.

"Alright! We’ll listen to you!" The brothers united and decided to seek help from the former City Guardian General. After all, they were all part of the city guards, and there should be some level of connection. As long as the Old Master helps, things will work out for them.

Lin Fei followed Gai Xiaolian to the City Lord Mansion. Afterward, Gai Xiaolian warned Lin Fei not to wander around and even had two Nascent Soul Realm experts watch over him, leaving Lin Fei speechless—didn’t they trust him at all?

Moreover, Lin Fei couldn’t understand why Gai Xiaolian wanted to keep him here and help him, also showing him some hidden things. Lin Fei felt none of this was a coincidence; he never believed in coincidences, only in cause and effect.

Where there’s a reason, there’s a motive behind it. What was the motive? That’s what Lin Fei needed to consider now, or else he might not even know how he’d end up dead.

Soon, Lin Fei saw Gai Xiaolian returning.

"Did you give the knife to your father?" Lin Fei asked.

Gai Xiaolian nodded, then motioned to the people behind her to leave.

"Do you have many questions?" Gai Xiaolian asked.

"Of course! Why did you save me? What’s your motive? And there are so many other questions I don’t know about; can you answer them for me?" Lin Fei smiled at Gai Xiaolian, eagerly awaiting her response.

Gai Xiaolian, however, didn’t indulge Lin Fei’s whims and said, "You can only ask me three questions."

"How is that possible? Are three questions really enough? It’s not enough!" Lin Fei immediately complained.

"You’ve already spoken one—it counts as a question even if you answer yourself. Now you have two left," Gai Xiaolian said.

Upon hearing this, Lin Fei wanted to curse, but he held back. After all, the ideals were lovely, but the reality was harsh. The current reality was that Lin Fei couldn’t beat Gai Xiaolian. Not only was he unable to defeat her, but he was also subjected to her whims!

Of course, since Gai Xiaolian hadn’t done anything to offend him yet, Lin Fei could play along with her mischief, as there was nothing to lose. If it really came down to it, Lin Fei would just call out Black Dragon, cause chaos, and then leave.

After all, Lin Fei was the kind of bachelor who believed in "one man eats, the whole family isn’t hungry."

Of course, this bachelor wasn’t someone without a wife. It simply meant he was carefree and live without worries.

"I want to know why you’re helping me, and what your purpose is?" Lin Fei asked.

"Which question exactly do you want me to answer? There are two questions in there—what do you want me to answer?" Gai Xiaolian asked.

"Can’t that count as just one question?" Lin Fei was speechless. Who did this kind of thing? It was the first time he’d met someone like this.

"No, and you have one question left—ask it." Gai Xiaolian suddenly said.

Lin Fei was stunned for a moment, then exclaimed, "What the hell!"

Lin Fei was about to go crazy—how could this even be a game? But this time he was more cautious, looking at Gai Xiaolian’s calm and unaffected demeanor. He realized that the angrier he was, the more control the other party had over him, so he had to calm down. Finally, he asked, "Why are you helping me?"

"No, no! What’s your purpose?" Lin Fei thought for a moment and realized these were both questions he wanted to ask, both things he found strange.

But it was already too late. Gai Xiaolian said, "You asked me why I’m helping you? Because I like you, it’s just that simple. I fancy you and plan to marry you!"

What Gai Xiaolian said was like a bolt from the blue—Lin Fei felt it was absurd! Completely absurd! She liked him? And they had never even met before—just one meeting and she liked him? There must be an ulterior motive!

Lin Fei felt there must be a huge conspiracy behind all this!
