At present, in the colony of the Dark Elves, the tavern which was normally pretty empty in the day time was unusually buzzing with activity as the shouts were being heard even from afar.
Loud enough to attract more of the Dark Elves who wondered if there was actually a brawl going on in there or something.
Amid the brute looking Dark Elves there was a young man who by his clothes would look like a refined nobleman but with the way his cheeks were flushed and his eyes were blazing, anybody could surmise that he had drank beyond his limits. Moreover, in between the throng of Dark Elves, he was the only human.
"Hey!" One of the tall and well-muscled Dark Elves spoke leaning over to the intoxicated young man.
"You’re going to far."
There was an edge in the elf’s voice as he spoke and the human man, Davian Montaire met his gaze.
"I’m not. It’s the truth."
"Stop fooling around!"
"Yeah, it’s obvious you’re bluffing!"
The Dark Elves who by human standards would look like people in their 20s had gathered around Davian. They were all seated around the round table where Davian had nearly finished off three bottles of alcohol and these twelve Dark Elves had taken seats in a way that gave Davian a center position.
"I’m not! I told you it’s the truth!" Davian insisted.
"I am in love with her!"
"But you said he was a man!"
"How can you be in a love with a man?!"
"And a Dragon at that!"
The Dark Elves who were also intoxicated while listening to Davian’s story shouted.
"I’m not lying!" Davian whined and then gulped another mug of the golden brown liquid before wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
"And," he hiccuped, "Where is it written that love can happen only between man and a woman?"
He looked at the Elves around him, "Love is love, anybody can fall in love with anyone!"
Some of the Dark Elves cheered at his words while other shook their heads.
"Love between man and man is fine! But you’re a human and she’s a Dragon!"
"So what?!" Davian slammed his fist on the table, "I’m the victim here, you know?! She lied to me! For years!"
Some of the Dark Elves patted his back as he sniffled.
"Aiya, don’t cry, here have some more drink."
One of the Dark Elves named Malrik, patted Davian’s back while pouring the drink into his wooden mug.
"I’m not crying." Davian grumbled before he picked up his mug and downed the drink in one go.
"Eh, but Dragon’s aren’t meant to deceive people though, if she lied that means she had something in her mind." One of the Dark Elves, named Lorat spoke.
Davian nodded drowsily, "She did, she always has something on her mind. Her plans. If she thinks something is not beneficial for her plan..." He hiccuped, "she won’t do it..."
"But she did say she likes you too, right?" Xalvo asked.
Davian grumbled something before he sniffled and poured some more drink for himself and downed it.
Fior, who stood at the counter with his arms crossed watched all his friends who were supposed to be there to meet him crowding around the human and drinking and chatting as if they were long lost friends.
He released a light sigh and Varek placed a wooden mug beside Fior while crossing his arms on the counter watching the boisterous crowd.
"Look at them," Varek spoke, "Just a few hours ago these men were ready to throw this human out and now they’re pouring him drinks and consoling him."
Fior picked up the mug, taking a sip without a word.
"Is it true though?" Varek asked giving Fior a side-glance.
"What?" Fior asked.
"Whatever he’s saying? About him and the Dragon being lovers?... Is he really a Dragon’s mate?"
Fior turned back to the human and then shrugged, "Don’t know. But Miss Guardian Dragon was quite careful with her instructions when she told us of his arrival."
Varek hummed and Fior couldn’t help but wonder how on earth a human managed to make a Dragon fall in love with him... It gave him a feeling that living on Edrisyl he was only exposed to limited amount of things- most of which were only hostility towards the Pure Mana Elves but now that things were stable he was starting to see more aspects of the world.
He recalled the decision he had made when the Guardian Dragon offered to take both him and his Grandmother as her attendants. At that moment, he had been thinking that since he didn’t have any place to go and had even dragged his Grandmother into it so, having a Dragon reach out to them was the best case scenario. He hadn’t thought much at that moment but now that he went back to it, he realised it was a right decision.
"Ah, why are you behaving like she dumped you?" One of the impatient Elves, Rilvy asked Davian.
"She said sorry, so, can’t you be the man and accept it and hug her?"
"But she’s in a little child’s body!" Davian shouted throwing his hands in the air.
"So, what? You’re a child too!" Malrik said and the Elves around him laughed.
Davian looked at them with a deadpan expression.
"I’m 21 years old! I’m not a child, I’m an adult!" Davian announced.
The Dark Elves stared at him in silence for a moment before they burst out laughing. Davian could only stare at them.
"21! You’re even younger than I thought!"
"You’re still an infant then!"
"Little baby!"
Some of them slammed their hands on the table, trying not to fall off their chairs while laughing while Davian felt the embarrassment creep up his neck.
"Stop laughing! You guys aren’t that older too!"
The Elves laughed even more at that and Varek who had been watching silently until then also burst out laughing and Fior simply sighed.
"Y-You’ve brought quite an amusing brat here, Fior." Varek laughed, shaking his head.
Fior walked up to Davian, pushing past his drunk friends and patted Davian’s shoulder.
"Mr Davian, we should leave now." Fior said.
Davian turned his head, "No, first tell me why they’re laughing so much."
Fior turned his eyes, his friends were a mess, he couldn’t expect any sense of sobriety from any of them at this point.
Fior simply shook his head and decided to answer Davian’s question, "Because we’re all past 200 years here... In our terms... you are basically a child."
Davian’s jaw dropped and he blinked several times and Fior took this opportunity to haul him up from the chair to take him away from the tavern in case things got even more chaotic.
"Ey, Fior! Where are you taking him? We’re not done!"
"Yeah, we wanna hear more of his stories!"
"Later, men! It’s getting late, I need to bring him back." Fior shouted as he dragged Davian out.
But some of the Dark Elves grabbed onto Davian’s arm pulling him back.
"Why such hurry? He’ll get bored in that stupid palace anyways."
"Right, let him have some fun here with Big Brothers and he can go back tomorrow morning. What do you say, kiddo?"
Davian grumbled but accepted the mug of drink that one of the Elves pushed in his hands.
Fior massaged his temples, which had started to ache now before he opened his mouth to reprimand his friends but then he felt the presence of some other beings into the colony.
Not only him but by the look of it the ones who weren’t fairly as much drunk also felt it, namely Varek.
"Pure Mana Elves?" He muttered under his breath feeling his shoulders tense up.
The drunk Elves were far too busy with the human so they didn’t seem to care as much. Fior turned around wondering if the Pure Mana Elves were here to retrieve the Guardian Dragon’s guest.
He and Varek met each other’s gaze before Fior walked over to the entrance, to make sure to stop the intruders. It would be better to talk them out of it before they entered the tavern or there would definitely be a brawl.
Fior stood at the entrance tensed up like a strained bowstring, watching the shadows of the group of the Pure Mana Elves approaching and when they turned the corner, Fior paused.
He rubbed his eyes wondering if the drink he had earlier had messed with his head or something before he looked back at the group of the Pure Mana Elves who stood a few meters from him.
They weren’t the knights as he had assumed, rather they weren’t even adults.
"What are the kids from the Pure Mana clan doing here?!" One of the drunk Dark Elves, Lorvash, who had shuffled outside shouted and the kids flinched.
They looked terrified as they clung to each other staring at the Elf who had shouted at them. One of them, a young boy gulped and stepped up.
"We-We’re here to make friends with you all!"
Fior’s brain took some time to process what the kid said.
"Hah?" Lorvash swayed watching the kids.
"We-We were sent by Mi-Miss G-Guardian Dragon..." One of the kids stuttered.
"She said we should make friends with the Da-Dark Elves."
The kids stared up at the menacing looking Dark Elf.
"Friends?" Lorvash repeated before bursting out laughing.
The kids flinched, trembling and Fior sighed before he decided to step in.
"Hey," he spoke placing his hand on Lorvash’s shoulder.
The Dark Elf turned his glassy gaze back on Fior and with a smile said, "Look what they’re saying, Fior. They came here to be friends with us."
Fior sighed, "Let them be they’re just kids."
Lorvash shook his head and patted Fior’s shoulder, "That’s what’s nuts! The adults fight and those kids are here to be friends! These kids have more brains than those foolish Elves!"
The Dark Elf laughed and the kids glanced at each other before Fior leaned a little closer to them.
"Hey, leave this place, this is the wrong way. There’s no kids here."
The kids looked at Fior, some of them recognized him while the others were reluctant.
"B-But we promised Miss Guardian Dragon that we’ll make friends." One of the kids said in a feeble voice.
Fior sighed, "Like I said, you’re at the wrong entrance. The kids of our colony don’t come here-"
"Oh boy, won’t you look at that, Pure Mana kids!"
Fior flinched along with the kids as he heard the voices behind him.
He turned his head watching his friends who earlier were busy with Davian now stumbling out of the tavern. They seemed to have finally noticed that there were Pure Mana Elves in the colony.
"Kids? Why are there kids here?"
"Ey, did you lose your way and come here?"
"Or are you going to fight?"
The older looking Dark Elves were a scary sight for the young kids and Fior who seemed to be the only one in his right mind stepped in between them.
"Hey, these kids came here by mistake. They’re leaving now."
"Mistake, you say?" Lorvash laughed, "Listen up men, these kiddos are here to make friends with us."
The Dark Elves who listened also fell silent for a moment before they started laughing. Fior felt the unease creeping up his back, if these drunk Elves did anything to harm these kids then it would result in the begining of another tense period of friction between them.
Fior gritted his teeth and then glanced at the kids, "Go back now."
The kids quickly nodded before they turned but Lorvash blocked their way.
"Where are you going? We haven’t even introduced ourselves yet."
The kids stared with terrified eyes at the tall Dark Elf.
Fior stepped in trying to stop the other Dark Elves but before he knew it his friends had already scooped up the kids and were heading towards the tavern.
