The Last Witch Lord

Chapter 405: Myriad Hearts

Looking at the familiar figure before him, Li Ban fell silent for a moment.

"Xiu Ye."

"Hmm?"

"How many Xiu Yes are there in this world?"

Li Ban expected Xiu Ye to be taken aback, but she only let out a soft chuckle.

"Did you find another of my corpses?"

"You know about that?"

"Of course. That is the ability of one of my Superior Elements."

A trace of nostalgia colored Xiu Ye's tone.

That experience rivaled the protagonists of old novels.

"That Superior Element was called Myriad Hearts. Its special ability allowed me to directly create avatars of myself that shared my consciousness. We could share information with one another, and whenever necessary, they could fuse back into me."

Li Ban froze. This ability... wasn't this Xiao Suo's ability?

"Could there be a second one of this element?"

"No. There are never two identical Superior Elements in the world."

"Then where is your Superior Element now? No, I should ask—where did you lose it?"

"I don't remember," Xiu Ye answered dejectedly. "I have no memory of losing Myriad Hearts. Perhaps it was taken from me after I died. Was this Superior Element not retrieved by the Imperial Dynasty?"

Superior Elements were incredibly precious.

If a white-robed priest fused with one, other white-robed priests naturally wouldn't fight them for it.

But if that white-robed priest died, their faction would retrieve it and pass it on to another Priest capable of fusing with it.

"Unfortunately, the Imperial Dynasty didn't retrieve it. Instead, it fell into the hands of a Black Robe Priest."

"What? Then that's a problem." Xiu Ye understood the consequences of such a powerful element falling into the hands of the Black Robe.

But as a dying woman, she was powerless to do anything about it.

This was the second Priest Xiu Ye fading away before Li Ban's eyes.

With a thought, Li Ban drew this Priest Xiu Ye's shattered soul into his body.

"Xiu Ye, can your two souls still fuse together?"

The second Xiu Ye, having just entered Li Ban's space, was still somewhat bewildered. The first Xiu Ye tried for a moment before telling Li Ban, "No. I've already lost Myriad Hearts. I can't fuse it back in."

"Where is this? Are you another me?" Xiu Ye Number Two finally spoke.

Xiu Ye Number One sighed and was just about to explain.

"Let me do it," Li Ban said, using his Telepathy Technique to transmit his entire conversation with Xiu Ye Number One to Xiu Ye Number Two.

Li Ban had been gathering all this information to share with Priest Qian Que and the others later.

He hadn't expected to use it first to synchronize information between different versions of Xiu Ye.

Consciousness transmission between souls was incredibly fast; Xiu Ye Number Two instantly understood what had happened.

Stunned, she fell silent for a moment.

Li Ban didn't have time to wait for her to slowly digest everything. He asked directly, "Xiu Ye Number Two, do you have any memory of Myriad Hearts being taken away?"

"Is that what you're calling me? Alright."

Xiu Ye Number Two sounded a bit resentful. Her personality seemed slightly different from Xiu Ye Number One's, lacking that same heavy despair.

"I don't have any memories of that."

Xiu Ye Number One suddenly spoke up, "When did you die?"

Xiu Ye Number Two paused. "It was probably not long after I stayed behind at Daxishan Village."

Xiu Ye Number One said to Li Ban, "She died fairly early on. She doesn't know anything about what happened afterward."

"Before you died, were any of the other avatars still alive?"

Xiu Ye Number One thought back. "I can confirm there were three others."

"Then I'll have to trouble you," Li Ban said. "Aside from finding the location where the White Fluff Disease broke out, we also need to find your other three avatars."

"I can do that. Sigh... I just don't know if I can hold on for that long. I will tell the locations to Xiu Ye Number Two. If I disappear, let her take over guiding you."

"Alright."

Xiu Ye Number Two spoke up faintly, "Did you two just decide that for me?"

Xiu Ye Number One asked, "Are you unwilling?"

Xiu Ye Number Two hesitated. "...I am willing."

Xiu Ye Number One let out a soft chuckle. "It seems I understand myself quite well."

Li Ban didn't say anything more. He quickly began searching through the abandoned village.

Finally, beneath a house at the very edge of the village, he found some strange traces.

The ground here had air-dried and hardened.

Yet, in this stone-hard ground, there was a perfectly circular hole.

It looked like the Ant Cave.

When Li Ban used his spiritual rhinoceros to explore the hole, he discovered many tiny, branching tunnels inside.

"This looks like the root system of some plant. When the earth completely hardened, the plant was either pulled out whole or simply vanished."

There were plenty of plants in Daxishan Village, but they had all withered and rotted. None had suddenly vanished like this.

"Perhaps this is the source of the White Fluff Disease," Li Ban murmured, squatting down to continue observing the small holes.

Xiu Ye Number Two was skeptical. "How could the pathogen be a plant?"

"Because it isn't a true pathogen. It's a Mutated Element."

Li Ban had associated it with a plant so quickly because whenever Xiao Suo created a Mutated Element, his carrier was always a vine.

Then the Mutated Element he created back then—the one that destroyed Yunzhou—was very likely a vine element as well.

"When you came to Daxishan to treat the disease, did you notice the plants here?"

Xiu Ye Number One said, "I was very busy then. I left an avatar here and departed shortly after, so I don't remember much."

Li Ban waited for Xiu Ye Number Two to recall.

"I remember a little," she said. "Let me think."

She had been busy saving people, investigating the cause, searching for a suitable cure, and calming the public.

Xiu Ye Number Two thought for a long time before finally saying with hesitation, "There seemed to be a plant here... some kind of vine. But I didn't sense an element's aura on it at the time."

"That's normal. A Mutated Element capable of catching the Priests of Yun Province off guard—one you only discovered after it fully erupted and the situation became irreversible—must have been deeply hidden in its early stages. Can you recall what that plant looked like?"

Xiu Ye Number Two began to search her memories.

Li Ban wasn't idle either. The plant here had already vanished, but they had gained more clues.

He simply had Xiu Ye Number One guide him to the next location.

As they walked, Xiu Ye Number Two finally recalled a few more details.

"Right, that vine looked completely ordinary. It was emerald green with large leaves, and nothing else really stood out. The only thing that left an impression on me was that there seemed to be little flower-like buds nestled between the leaves. They were green as well, which made them very hard to spot."
