Looking at Luna, who was holding his hand and smiling, Leo did not know what to say.
Luna’s attire was exactly as it had been 5,000 years ago.
A mage’s robe drenched in blood from the fatal wound inflicted by Erebos.
Fortunately, the wounds she had suffered 5,000 years ago were gone.
She was different from Arron.
And she was different from the Luna who had crossed over to the present world last time.
No matter how real the heroes of the Hero Record seemed, they were ultimately illusions.
But Spirits were different.
A Spirit was like a lingering memory residing within Mana.
A fragment of the person who had once existed in life.
Yet the essence was the person themselves.
The woman before him was Luna herself, the Luna who had reached the end of her time 5,000 years ago.
'And this body.'
This was the decisive difference between Spirit Magic and Death Magic.
In Spirit Magic, one allowed a Spirit to dwell within their own body to manifest its abilities.
Therefore, it could not materialize the physical body from when they were alive, unlike Death Magic.
But right now, Luna had a physical body.
Luna seemed just as bewildered by the situation as Leo was.
She examined her body here and there, then spun around in place.
“Oho, oho?”
Letting out a gasp of admiration, she toyed with her pointed ears with her fingertips and beamed.
Then, extending only the thumb and index finger of her left hand to make a ‘V’ shape, she placed it against her chin and looked smug.
“Lady Luna, resurrected!”
“Seeing you spout nonsense so casually, you’re definitely Luna.”
“What? What’s with that dry reaction? Are you not happy that I’ve been resurrected?!”
Luna glared at Leo, narrowing her eyes.
Looking at her, Leo spoke seriously.
“I am... happy that we’ve met again after you were resurrected as a Spirit.”
(T/N: WAITTTTT, RESURRECTED???! So it's totally a different thing compared to Arron?)
Luna was taken aback by the unexpected answer.
'I-I thought Kyle would definitely respond with something annoying!'
Deep down, she was pleased by his honest and sincere response.
“Hmph! Then you should just be openly happy about it, shouldn’t you?”
Hiding her embarrassment, Luna crossed her arms and sharply turned her head away.
Leo looked at her and spoke.
“The reason you became a Spirit.”
Leo clenched his fist.
“Luna, in the end, I lost even Lysinas.”
“...”
At those words, Luna’s ears drooped.
“But I managed to subjugate Erebos and save the world. What do you think I felt as I was dying?”
“...I can’t imagine.”
“It was relief,” Leo said, closing his eyes.
“I couldn’t completely defeat Erebos either. In the end, there was a limit to what I could do alone. I comforted myself by thinking I had no choice but to leave it to the generations that followed.”
In the final battle with Erebos, what terrified Leo the most was not the Black Flame that incinerated everything.
It was not the anxiety that he might fail.
Nor was it the fact that the fate of the world rested in his hands.
It was simply the fear of being alone.
The fear that he might fail to fulfill the long-cherished wishes of the friends who had departed before him.
That was why, the moment he succeeded in subjugating Erebos and fell from the high sky to the ground as his strength faded, he felt relief while watching the rising sun and the clearing gray sky.
He felt relief knowing that his friends who had gone first could finally close their eyes in peace.
“I hoped that none of you would be left with any regrets.”
“...Kyle.”
Luna clenched her fists tightly at Leo’s words.
“You remained as a Spirit because you had regrets, right?”
“I think so.”
“What kind of regret was it?”
Leo met Luna’s eyes with a serious expression.
Seeing his earnest face, Luna took a deep breath.
“My regret is...”
“Yeah.”
“I don’t know.”
“...”
Leo fell silent at Luna’s answer.
“I feel like I have a regret, but I have absolutely no idea what it is,” Luna said nonchalantly with a bright smile, patting Leo on the shoulder.
“So stop pretending to care about me in a way that doesn’t suit you and just act like usual. It’s actually creepy.”
“Fine, I get it.”
Leo grabbed Luna’s cheeks and started pulling them wildly.
“Uge mwu-shizishiya!” (Stop it, you jerk!)
“Because I feel pathetic for worrying about you.”
With a blank expression, Leo continued shaking her cheeks.
Unable to take it anymore, Luna finally started choking him.
It was truly a beautiful reunion between two people who had crossed the boundary of death.
===
After their scuffle.
Sitting opposite Luna in the flower field, Leo spoke.
“Let’s organize this. You became a Spirit because of some regret after the battle with Erebos 5,000 years ago, and then entered a Spirit Contract with me. Correct?”
“Yep.”
“Then how did you recognize me as Kyle right away?”
In his surprise at Luna appearing as a Spirit, he had not thought about this part.
For the Luna of 5,000 years ago, it was strange that she recognized him as he was now, Leo Plov.
“And how do you, a Spirit, have a physical body?”
“Wait, let me organize my own situation first.”
At Leo’s questions, Luna crossed her arms and sank into thought.
After a moment, Luna nodded and spoke.
“I think it’s best to explain why I have a physical body first.”
“Go ahead.”
“The reason I can have a body right now is none other than the Cometes you possess.”
“Cometes?”
“Yes. That object called a Hero Weapon, obtained by someone who cleared that something you call as Hero Record. I think I was able to form a physical body thanks to that Hero Weapon.”
Leo could summon characters from within the Hero Record to the present world using the Hero Record and Divine Power.
Through that power, Luna and Arron had already crossed over to the present world once.
“So, in the end, Cometes acted as the medium for you to have a body?”
“Yeah. I think so. That’s why once the Magic Power of mine dwelling within Cometes is exhausted, I probably won’t be able to stay in the present world as a Spirit.”
Leo fell into thought at Luna’s words.
Her deduction was highly plausible.
Deep and flexible thinking was the greatest virtue of a mage.
Luna had accurately deduced the current situation using only fragmented information.
“And the reason I know you’re Kyle is also closely related to Cometes.”
“How so?”
“A portion of the memories I experienced within the Hero Record was passed to me through Cometes.”
“A portion?”
“Yeah. The memories of meeting you during my school days and the memory of when Zerdeac escaped to the outside.”
“What about the memories from when you went outside the Hero Record?”
“None.”
Luna shook her head.
'Only the memories from within the Hero Record were passed on? Why on earth?'
Leo wore a grave expression.
Despite being the owner of the Hero Record, even Leo knew nothing about it.
'In the first place, I’ve only seen the Hero Record in its complete state once, in Rodia’s Hero World.'
Even for Leo, it was difficult to truly grasp the extent of the Hero Record’s possibilities in such a situation.
“It’s a shame you don’t have those memories.”
“What? Why is it a shame? Did something happen after we went out?”
Luna’s eyes widened, and she leaned in close, bringing her face right in front of Leo’s.
“What did I do in the Hero Record?”
Looking at Luna, who blinked her large eyes with an innocent expression, Leo looked deeply disappointed.
“You did.”
“W-what did I do?”
Seeing Luna blush slightly, Leo spoke.
“We subjugated that damn Monster Queen together.”
“Huh?”
“She was your enemy. It would have been nice if you remembered defeating her.”
“Really?”
Luna’s eyes went wide.
“Anything else?”
“Anything else? Not really.”
Leo shrugged and stood up.
Looking up at him, Luna’s face contorted.
'This idiot, seriously! There was a tragic parting! A tragic parting!'
In truth, Luna did have memories of the outside.
The reason she pretended not to know was simple.
'It’s embarrassing! I’m the only one who confessed! I’m the only one who kissed his cheek!'
Her pride would not allow it.
Right before death, she could not convey her feelings because she worried about placing a heavier burden on the hearts of Kyle and Lysinas before the final battle.
In the Hero Record, she had somehow conveyed her feelings, thinking they might never meet again.
And... now.
'Can’t I create time-reversal magic?'
Luna sincerely wanted to smack the back of her past self’s head.
Specifically, she wanted to knock her past self unconscious at that moment.
The reason she had not conveyed her feelings during her lifetime was also because of useless pride, wanting to make that guy realize it first.
'By the way, to think Lysinas also had feelings for Kyle.'
Luna thought of Lysinas.
Lysinas.
'To be honest, even as a woman, I think she’s beautiful.'
Luna, who was confident that her beauty was second to none, felt a bit self-conscious when compared to Lysinas.
'Plus, she’s mature and smart.'
She was not called The Wise King for nothing.
Of course, as someone called the strongest archmage in history, Luna’s intellect was certainly not lacking.
However, when it came to knowledge outside of magic, she could not keep up with Lysinas.
'And her aura.'
If Luna was a tomboy, Lysinas was a noble lady.
'...'
As Luna pondered seriously, a doubt arose.
'Why on earth does she like that idiot?'
Why would the perfect savior of the world, who lacked nothing, like Kyle?
Along with the question, her confidence gradually vanished.
If the comparison were anyone else, it would be one thing.
But against Lysinas, even Luna could not remain entirely triumphant.
Seeing Luna with her ears drooping and a depressed expression, Leo let out a deep sigh and spoke.
“Don’t be too disappointed. Anyway, you’re the one who defeated her. And... regardless of the reason, we’ve met again like this, haven’t we?”
Leo smiled.
“Don’t think about anything right now and just enjoy this moment. There are countless sights I wanted you to see. I hope you can see them, Luna.”
Luna’s eyes widened at Leo’s words.
Then, she beamed.
“Yeah!”
The ears of the revitalized Luna perked up.
'That’s right! There’s definitely something I’m better at than Lysinas!'
Having regained her spirit, Luna put her hands on her hips and puffed out her chest.
'I’m rich in the chest, but she’s chest-poor! Men prefer the rich!'
(T/N: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)
Thinking such thoughts without hesitation, thoughts that would have made Lysinas charge at her instantly, Luna nodded firmly.
Leo chuckled, seeing Luna bounce back.
Then, with a serious gaze, he walked toward his own grave.
“Whose grave is this?”
“Mine.”
Luna’s eyes widened at Leo’s answer.
“Velkia recovered my body and buried me beside you. It seems they couldn’t find the bodies of the others, though.”
“Ah...”
Luna let out a sigh filled with sorrow.
“...I wonder if the others have regrets like I do?”
“I can’t know. But I believe they don’t.”
“...That’s likely.”
Luna did not even know what her own regrets were.
But she did not think the other comrades had remained as Spirits because of regrets like she had.
She hoped they had no regrets.
In the midst of this, Leo reached out toward Vihar’s dagger, which was placed in front of his grave.
Then, he paused.
'...It hasn’t been long since it was left here.'
It was not an object that had been there for a long time.
A few days at most.
'...'
'The fact that flowers bloomed in this area despite it being autumn might be the influence of Luna’s resurrection as a Spirit.'
Considering they were flowers Luna liked, it was possible.
'The memory of either Velkia or Vihar that was shown back then is still a mystery, though.'
Leo tightened his grip.
'The fact that this dagger is placed in front of my grave... does it mean Vihar came here?'
Swoosh—!
A wind blew.
Looking down at the dagger, Leo clenched his fist.
'Vihar... could it be that you were brought back by the Death King’s power?'
