The moment Kera saw the pitch-black color covering almost Zeldryn's entire body, he lowered the oval mana platform beneath them onto the bedroom floor. Strangely, there was no panic on his face. His expression simply became more serious, as though a situation like this wasn't entirely unfamiliar to him.

Kera moved one of his fingers, and the oval mana platform rose again, carrying the female servant back outside through the window. Once she reached a safe place, the platform disappeared completely, leaving only Kera and Zeldryn inside the room.

Kera wasted no time. He immediately focused on the flow of mana that continued being drawn into Zeldryn's body and snapped his fingers.

Snap!

The particles rushing toward Zeldryn trembled. Some of the mana that had already begun darkening slowly moved outward, but only a small amount responded.

Kera frowned.

The pull coming from Zeldryn's body was too strong. Every time Kera managed to draw some of the mana away, even more from the surrounding air was immediately pulled back in at a greater speed.

“Tch. This is insane,” Kera muttered as he kept his eyes fixed on Zeldryn's unconscious body, which was still floating in the air. “This kid's Mana Hole is like a black hole. It just keeps absorbing without stopping.”

He tried removing more mana, but the force dragging it toward Zeldryn didn't weaken.

“The only option is to close the hole first,” Kera continued. “After that, I can remove the excess mana that's already entered his body.”

This time, he didn't rely solely on snapping his fingers. Kera raised his staff and slowly closed his eyes as mana particles around him began gathering together.

Several of the particles merged and formed something resembling a rectangle. Under Kera's control, the construct moved toward Zeldryn's body and headed directly for the location of his Mana Hole.

The moment it reached its destination, the situation changed.

Mana continued rushing toward Zeldryn, but the particles could no longer enter the Mana Hole. It was as though an invisible wall had been placed over its entrance. No matter how strongly the surrounding mana was pulled toward him, none of it managed to pass through the seal.

Kera opened his eyes slightly.

“Good.”

The problem, however, was far from over.

The mana that could no longer enter Zeldryn was still accumulating around his body. Kera raised his staff again and began forcing the gathered particles away, gradually pushing the flow out of the room while maintaining the seal over the Mana Hole at the same time.

The process required several minutes of constant control. Kera couldn't release the seal, but he also couldn't allow the surrounding mana to continue gathering around Zeldryn unchecked.

Around three minutes later, the situation finally began to stabilize. Mana from the environment stopped being drawn toward Zeldryn, and the flow inside the room gradually returned to normal.

Even then, Kera still wasn't finished.

The mana outside Zeldryn's body had been dealt with, but there was still too much already inside him.

Kera focused on Zeldryn again and began carefully drawing out the excess. He didn't remove everything. Instead, he extracted only enough to reduce the amount inside Zeldryn to what his Mana Hole could normally contain.

Little by little, dark mana began emerging from the boy's body.

Kera watched the process with a serious expression.

“Tch. I don't know whether you're the lucky one or I am,” he said while continuing to control the flow. He glanced at Zeldryn's unconscious face. “I arrived just in time.”

Kera let out a short sigh.

“Otherwise, I would've had to watch Lady Anna cry.”

His expression shifted slightly at the mention of her name.

“And I really don't want to see that.”

Several more minutes passed before the black color covering Zeldryn's body finally began to fade. His natural skin slowly returned as the darkness receded little by little until it disappeared completely.

The moment it was gone, Kera's eyes widened slightly.

Now that Zeldryn's body was no longer obscured by the black mana, his actual physical condition became obvious.

There were wounds, bruises, marks left by beatings, and several cuts still visible across his body.

Kera stared at him for several moments.

'Why does this kid have this many injuries?'

He didn't spend long thinking about it. Kera had only just arrived at the mansion, and there were far too many things about Zeldryn's situation that he still didn't know.

'I'll find out eventually.'

For now, there was something more important to deal with.

Kera raised his staff once again.

'Let's just say you're the lucky one, you troublesome brat.'

After ensuring that every blackened part of Zeldryn's body had returned to normal, Kera began manipulating his mana again. This time, however, he wasn't using it to block or remove anything.

He directed the mana toward Zeldryn's injuries.

The energy wrapped around the bruised areas of his body, and the change began almost immediately. The red and blue discoloration across Zeldryn's skin gradually faded until the bruises disappeared altogether.

Kera then moved his mana toward the cuts. The wounded skin slowly closed, and the remaining marks vanished with it.

It didn't take long before Zeldryn's body, which had previously been covered in injuries, looked as though he had never been beaten at all.

Kera's thoughts returned to the present.

Thanks to what had happened that night, he already knew one thing for certain.

Zeldryn possessed the potential to become a Manholer.

And that potential was far from ordinary.

Kera smiled as he looked at Zeldryn again.

“Hey, stupid kid. Use your brain,” he said. “Do you seriously not have one? Are you planning to let me keep tormenting you?”

The insult immediately irritated Zeldryn, but his body still hurt from the kicks he had taken earlier. He didn't even have enough energy left to answer Kera properly and could only breathe heavily while trying to steady himself.

'My brain?'

Zeldryn suppressed his irritation.

'I've been thinking this entire time, damn it.'

His mind kept moving, throwing one possibility after another at him. Zeldryn tried recalling everything he had ever read in the novel.

How did someone fight a Manholer? How did mana actually work? What did people in this world do to activate their abilities?

The harder he searched his memory, however, the more questions appeared.

Eventually, one idea crossed his mind.

It wasn't proven, and even Zeldryn had no idea whether his reasoning was correct. But in his current situation, his choices were simple. He could either try something or continue getting beaten.

Of course he was going to try.

Zeldryn had already realized that every Manholer could perceive mana differently. Some saw different colors, and the way each person understood what they were sensing might not necessarily be identical either.

If that was true, then perhaps the techniques used by different Manholers weren't identical either.

Zeldryn tried to remember how the protagonist of Life Really Is Happy, Right? activated his abilities and controlled mana.

Several seconds later, his expression immediately turned irritated.

It was useless.

As far as Zeldryn could remember, the bastard author had never properly explained the mana system in the first place. Whenever the protagonist fought, the narration always described him as attacking with mana, releasing mana, or strengthening an attack with mana.

There was never any genuinely useful explanation of how he actually did it.

“Damn you, you bastard author,” Zeldryn cursed under his breath.
