The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!

Chapter 1837 - 508: The Future Speakers_2

The morning mist condensed into water droplets on the glass window, as a discreetly decorated black carriage rolled over the coal-cinder-paved road and slowly stopped in front of the heavy cast iron gate of the Punk Armory Factory.

This factory was undoubtedly one of the most imposing buildings in the entire New Industrial Zone, having once served as a warehouse for the Royal Armory.

To establish another armory beside the Royal Armory, likely there was only one person in all of Thunder City who had that kind of energy.

Once the carriage came to a steady stop, the young coachman hastily got down and opened the carriage door for the Prince.

Mr. Punk had been waiting at the entrance.

The former coachman no longer looked as small and thin as he did a year ago. His slightly plump figure was wrapped in a narrow brown vest, like a small cask, with a pocket watch chain hanging beside the bronze buttons, and he wore a black bowler hat.

Seeing the Prince alighting from the carriage, Punk quickly walked over with a smile, doffing his hat and bowing slightly as he greeted.

"Good morning, esteemed Prince Colin, your visit graces this humble factory!"

"Mr. Punk, you're too modest. Our factory is not small at all. Probably, there aren't many chimneys in the entire industrial zone that are more magnificent than ours."

Luo Yan joked gently, then his gaze drifted over Punk's shoulder, landing on the slightly uneasy man behind him.

"This gentleman must be Mr. Simon, the factory director."

The man appeared to be about forty, tall and lean, dressed in a set of work clothes washed to a faded color.

His fingers were thick at the knuckles, with traces of oil still lingering in the nail crevices, yet his focused and bright eyes seemed more fitting for a dedicated watchmaker than a factory manager.

The Punk Armory Factory needed precisely this type of "engineer" manager to produce "epoch-making weapons."

It was clear that Punk had put thought into this aspect.

"Good day, Your Highness." Simon slightly bowed, his voice somewhat hoarse yet full of vigor, "I am Simon, your loyal servant... Welcome to your inspection."

It was evident that this Mr. Simon had also prepared extensively for today's meeting.

His impeccable manners probably came from practicing in front of a mirror.

"No need for formality, Mr. Simon." Luo Yan nodded to him, smiling as he shook his hand, "I've heard much about you, Mr. Punk often praises you before me."

"Is...is that so? Thank you."

Thank you?

Luo Yan paused for a moment, then smiled and released the handshake.

"No need to be formal. Please feel free, I'm not here for an inspection, just a casual visit."

Simon felt his cheeks heating up, turning as red as branding irons, awkwardly unsure where to place his hands.

Unexpectedly, the esteemed Prince was even more approachable than the rumors, shaking hands with a commoner like him!

Quietly, he hid his hand behind him, deciding not to wash it for a couple of days.

After some simple pleasantries, Punk, worried that his honest factory director would continue to be awkward, quickly led the Prince deeper into the factory district.

Everyone has things they're not good at, for his Simon factory director, it was socializing.

The huge workshops stood tall in the factory area, red brick chimneys emitting black smoke into the sky.

Rolled-up sleeves female workers were converting "long-handle mops" made from drying racks and cloth to wipe the moisture on the second-floor glass. Workers pushing carts ran alongside the steel mono-rail, delivering still-warm castings to the assembly workshop, the clattering sounds filled with busyness.

And even more bustling was inside the workshop, where workers on the day shift had started their work. They stood at the long table directly at the entrance, checking tools and waiting for the foreman to assign tasks.

"Your Highness! Look!"

Standing next to the massive steam pipes, Punk had to raise his voice by eight degrees just to barely drown out the noise from the neighboring workshop.

"Everything here is the most advanced! A hundred skilled workers can assemble fifty Roxsey 1053 Rifles in just one day! This efficiency cannot be matched anywhere in the Duchy—no, even on the entire Aus Continent!"

He had never been to the distant Holy City but imagined it wouldn't be much different from the Grand Duke's Royal Armory there.

Whenever he thought of those snobbish craftsmen at the Royal Armory, he couldn't help but curl his lips with a hint of proudness.

"That outdated Royal Armory next door, even if you gave them two hundred workers, they'd slave away day and night just to churn out twenty smoothbore guns! Not only are we faster, but our quality is also incomparably superior!"

"No wonder the Grand Duke handed the order to you, it seems he's equally frustrated with them." Luo Yan laughed at this, offering no additional comment.

Actually, if the workers at that Royal Armory truly worked to the bone day and night on shifts, their output would definitely be more than just twenty smoothbore guns.

However, all servants of the nobility have a problem, a job gradually transforms from a "position" to a "benefit."

After all, the ever-busy Edward surely did not have the time to keep an eye on a factory, while his servants had to focus their work in the court. Their loyalty was unquestionable, far surpassing bonds maintained by money, but efficiency inevitably fell short.

Today's Imperial Chef became tomorrow's factory director, the day after would turn into a civil servant at the Governor's Mansion, and the next time you meet them, they'd be gilding themselves at the City Hall.
