The Lucky Farmgirl

Chapter 2514 - 2488: The Wedding

Manbao had a beautiful sleep and woke up according to her usual biological clock. She opened her eyes and was momentarily dazed before remembering that she was getting married today.

Keke said in a solemn tone to the host, "Congratulations to the host."

Only then did Manbao feel a sense of joy and climbed up, saying, "Thank you!"

While getting out of bed and dressing, Manbao asked, "Keke, aren’t you going to give me a gift?"

Keke paused for a while before responding. It first checked its points that had not yet been used for upgrading, then calculated how many more were needed for the next upgrade. Finally, it opened the shop in Manbao’s mind and asked, "What does the host want?"

Manbao laughed, "I’ll like anything you give me."

Keke really wanted to spend ten points to buy her a pot of flowers, but it restrained that impulse and instead carefully selected a stylish new bracelet from the shop.

This was a versatile bracelet, overall a light purple color, as translucent as crystal but with the smoothness of jade. It was embedded with five different gemstones, all beautiful, particularly the brightest red one, although it was not a real gem but a high-tech product crafted to resemble a gemstone.

The red gemstone cover could be slid open to reveal a screen setting. It said, "This is the latest portable purifier, the newest version you gave to Princess Mingda."

Adding the cost of the bracelet itself and the four real gemstones on it, it was not cheap.

The main thing was these gemstones looked similar to those in this world but were entirely different in structure, much harder and capable of gradually promoting positive development in the human body.

Manbao clicked her tongue, "I’ve seen it before, so expensive, so expensive."

Keke was indeed a bit conflicted, with data going back and forth for a while, but it concluded that since it was the host’s wedding, some expression of goodwill was warranted.

However, it knew such behavior shouldn’t be detected by the main system, so it was currently modifying the data. Although the main system generally didn’t audit the income and expenditures of subsystems, what if it did?

Keke wouldn’t allow any slip-up on its part.

Receiving such a gift, Manbao was so happy that she rolled around excitedly on the bed with her eyes sparkling, "Keke, I love you to death!"

Xi Bing happened to be carrying hot water over and didn’t hear the first few words, but vaguely heard the latter part of the sentence, which slightly embarrassed her. She knocked on the door and said, "Master, have you gotten up yet?"

Only then did Manbao get out of bed to open the door.

Xi Bing teased, blushing, "The master loves Young Master Bai so much, early in the morning, yelling about love and affection."

Manbao said, "Xi Bing, you better watch out, or I’ll marry you off."

Xi Bing stuck out her tongue, not afraid of Zhou Man.

She placed the hot water on the stand and said, "Master, the others are already up. What would you like for breakfast? I’ll bring it for you."

Manbao thought for a bit and said, "Just something light. My mother said I shouldn’t eat too much on the wedding day."

Although it was her first time getting married, she had seen enough weddings to know that brides should eat and drink sparingly due to the inconvenience of the day, saving the feast for after entering the bridal chamber.

Xi Bing acknowledged and brought Manbao a plate of small buns and some side dishes.

After breakfast, Manbao strolled around the garden, relaxing her muscles before heading back.

Only then did the Zhou family swarm in, helping her put on the wedding dress and prepare her makeup.

The wedding was before dusk, but guests would start arriving by noon, and the Bai family needed to escort the bride at the auspicious hour before noon.

Bai Shan invited many friends to accompany him for the bride’s pickup, while Manbao also invited many friends over to help block the door.

Hearing the raucous laughter outside the mansion, Manbao couldn’t help but perk up her ears.

Madam Tang, Wang Ruile, and Fu Wenyun entered with smiling faces and said, "Bai Shan and his group have passed the front gate and are blocked at the second one."

Manbao tilted her head and asked, "Is Mingxue guarding that gate?"

"Yes, it’s not easy to pass," Madam Tang laughed, "Xiang Mingxue is setting tricky questions. It looks like they’ll have to wait a bit; your brother is enjoying the show at the third gate, eager to make it difficult for Bai Shan."

Seeing no reaction from her, Madam Tang poked her forehead and said, "Little heartless one, aren’t you worried?"

Manbao shook her head, "I’m not worried. We have the auspicious hour. My brother and the others know the boundaries."

But Bai Shan was sweating from anxiety. Even though it was October and the weather was cold, sweat was on his forehead. Although Brother Zhou and the rest wouldn’t miss the auspicious moment, breaking the barriers themselves was different than the bride’s family giving way.

Bai Shan felt his mind wasn’t functioning well today; he blamed it on not sleeping well last night, so he kept glancing at Yin Huo.

Xiang Mingxue had posed four character riddles, "A little part divided, a little part united, a little part retained, a little part lessened."

After thinking for a while, Yin Huo tentatively said, "The answers are Fen, He, Liu, Sha."

The people inside didn’t confirm correctness immediately but opened the door. The young men cheered and immediately crowded in with Bai Shan...

They noisily reached the third gate. Madam Tang listened to the commotion and laughed with Manbao, saying, "You’re not resigning after marriage?"

Manbao blinked in confusion, asking, "Why should I resign?"

Madam Tang smiled and shook her head, "Nothing, Bai Shan and the Bai family are indeed open-minded. You’re fortunate."

Manbao smiled slightly, nodded; she knew she was a lucky person.

Wang Ruile and Fu Wenyun were full of envy. However, Zhou Man had initially been an imperial physician, so it was not too difficult to accept.

She enjoyed more freedom than most women, which was something truly enviable.

Especially Fu Wenyun, who had been familiar with poetry and books since childhood, growing up alongside Manbao and once having shared similar ideals. But she was now confined to the inner court, while Manbao stepped into a broader sky.

Fu Wenyun said seriously, "The Bai family is open-minded and generous. You must live well."

Manbao paused before nodding.

She was no longer a child and understood how rare it was to hold an official position in court.

Perhaps in the future, there would be more women in official positions, and she would no longer be seen as unique, but for now, she indeed stood alone.

She was very grateful for the people along the way who were tolerant of her.

As she thought this, there was noise outside, and Zhou Liru excitedly ran in, shouting, "Aunt, Aunt, they’ve entered the main courtyard."

Before her voice died away, Junior Ms. Qian approached smiling with tears in her eyes, to escort Manbao, just as she did when marrying off Daya, taking her to the main hall.

Bai Shan was already standing in the main hall; hearing the footsteps, he turned smiling to see Manbao adorned with a phoenix coronet, dressed in wedding attire, and was momentarily stunned.

Manbao met his gaze, smiled slightly then lowered her head, and Bai Shan stared even more, feeling his heart pounding as if it was going to leap out, with his hands and feet slightly numb.
