The dazzling sky-blue radiance emitted by Kouna’s eyes shone on the blackened earth.
Then, something incredible happened. An unknown, bluish energy poured out from within her and began to purify the earth.
Perserque instinctively realized that the power she was emitting was similar to the flow that the tentacle-man, Solomonia, subtly exuded.
No. The power she radiated was even purer than that.
“Arbit...” Perserque had the illusion that a colossal dragon's image appeared behind Kouna.
‘The Red Void wasn't a world that should've existed originally, either.’
Perhaps the Red Void was the superior version of the bubble worlds they were taking care of.
If it stemmed from the power granted by Arbit, who had harmonized that place, the situation made sense.
Perserque watched Kouna’s dance in a daze. The girl likely didn't even know what she was doing right now.
After a long time, the ecstatic dance ended, the black flow that was polluting the ground vanishing entirely.
Kouna finally came back to her senses in a huff. “Haah. Hah. Wha... What did I...”
“Amazing. The ability to purify the very earth.”
What they'd just witnessed her perform wasn't something simple purification magic could achieve. She had manifested power precisely suited to remedying the necrotic part of the dimension.
“Haah. Haah. I’m... I’m so exhausted.” She slumped to the ground with tears in her eyes, insisting she didn't even have the strength to lift a finger.
“The fairy fixed the ground!”
“That great! That great! Ground won’t cry no more!”
Thud, thud, thud!!
The giant rolled around on the ground in delight, seemingly overjoyed just to see the land return to normal.
“This spot! My favorite spot!”
“Shoulder don’t hurt when sleep here!”
Hearing their shouts, Perserque slowly walked over and placed her hand on the earth, only to be surprised. “The spirits... they’re back?”
The lowest-ranked nature spirits, devoid of will. The fragments of nature. They had returned.
If the black swamp from earlier had encroached the area, nothing should have been left here.
“Now that I think about it, the grass and flowers...”
Although trampled, she saw a large field of flowers. It was as if the area had reverted to the state before it had been taken over by the black swamp.
“Unbelievable...” Perserque suddenly realized what power Arbit’s remnants could achieve, and her eyes widened.
‘Reversing... time?’
She stared at Kouna, who was sprawled out, with a look of disbelief. “But that’s impossible. The dimensional walls aren't extremely thick like they used to be.”
The weakening of the dimensional walls implied many things. The fact that the timelines of the Hall of Heroes, Earth, Tionis, and all other worlds were different was proof of that.
Even Altair, the time spirit, could only slightly warp the flow of time. It was nothing close to what Kouna appeared to have done.
What she had achieved wasn't mere purification. It was as if she’d rewound a portion of the world that had become polluted and unusable.
Of course, it wasn't utterly impossible to achieve given the right circumstances. Abel traveling from the parallel world was a good example.
However, that power was bound by the world’s laws across all parallel worlds, and he couldn’t wield it after that brief period. Moreover, the scope of Kouna’s restoration and his time travel was different.
It was hard to say for certain whether what had just been achieved was even related to time in the first place.
“It’d be even more impossible to warp just a partial timeframe within one world...”
As a mage, Perserque knew how preposterous the phenomenon was. If she were to present an academic paper on it at a prestigious conference, they’d tell her to write her fiction elsewhere and throw her all the criticisms they could possibly think of.
Yet, despite the momentous significance of what had just happened, the giant and Kouna, who had performed the feat, seemed utterly unconcerned.
Perserque questioned, “Kouna, are you alright?”
“Ah. Yes. I’m a little tired, but I’m okay. Do you think the power I just used is the one Solomonia has been looking for?”
“Probably.”
‘I have to tell Davey about this right away.’
Davey had left to check something briefly. He might not readily believe what had happened in his absence, but informing him was the right thing to do.
Grateful to Kouna for fixing its resting spot, the giant cut off a portion of its prey to offer her and followed her requests.
It looked truly dangerous, yet, perhaps because it was simple-minded, it was obedient and easy to handle.
With its help, Perserque gathered plentiful information about the bubble world.
The giant, born from a rock, seemed to have long fought against the reptiles and the massive dragon-like beings, ruled the Winged King.
Being that both were innate tyrants, the reptiles rampaging across the land and the giant were natural enemies, so it had good reason to fight the enormous reptilian monsters to the death.
Yet one day, the sudden appearance of the black swamp had started to make things difficult for the flightless giant. It sapped its strength and gradually encroached upon its resting places.
Some of the reptiles that wreaked destruction realized how big of a threat the black swamp was, even temporarily ceasing their antagonizing of the giant.
Though some vicious species didn't stop, ultimately, the endless fighting from before no longer occurred.
“Saw in dream. Very small pretty goddess!”
“Me too! Said fairy come! Said fairy help! Kahahat!”
Seeing the giant slap its knees in uproarious laughter, Perserque thought it was a blessing in disguise. If the black swamp area happened to be the necrotic zone, the giant would be able to help them find its location.
“Then, do you know anything about the black beastfolk?”
The black beastfolk's entire bodies shimmered as if enveloped in black mist. That must have been the long-eared being that seemed ominous to her.
More importantly, that being was clearly the source of the necrotic zones. She had a strong feeling that they absolutely couldn't leave it alone.
The giant’s head tilted in confusion. “Beastfolk? What that? Food?”
“They’re about the same size as I am, and they have ears like this.”
When she held her hands up to her head, imitating fox ears, the giant made a groaning sound.
“My memory bad! Don’t remember every single thing!”
“But don’t think saw one. Ever!”
It seemed Perserque was the only one who had seen that being. It was odd that neither Kouna nor the giant had spotted it.
“Ugh!” The giant abruptly grunted and began to leave.
“Where are you going?”
“Fairy! Water! I drank too much! Me be right back. Smell if do business here!”
Thump, thump.
The two watched it walk away.
“Kouna,” Perserque called.
“Yes?”
“That power you used. It's similar to the power of time Abel possessed.”
Kouna was surprised to hear that. “Time? Not purification?”
“I can’t tell if it’s related to time or restoration, but one thing seems certain. Your power overturns conventional wisdom.”
“No way it’s that big a deal,” she responded with a shake of her head.
“It’s not just a matter of warping time. If you can use your power elsewhere...”
As Perserque fell silent, Kouna gulped.
Then, pointing to the green moon hanging in the sky, Perserque said, “If that power has no limits, it’d be possible to resurrect the God of Destruction.”
“W-what?”
While it might prove impractical and improbable, the implication would be immense.
“You’ll have to be careful when using your power.”
Boom!!!
At that moment, a roar echoed from afar, and the two shot up simultaneously.
“That place is?!”
“It’s where the giant went a moment ago.”
“Let’s go.”
The two women hurriedly ran in the direction the giant had disappeared, only to see the giant sprawled on the ground, groaning, with Davey standing on its chest.
“Davey!”
He was pleasantly surprised to see her approach. “Perserque?”
“Ugh. Hurts. Hurts.”
“Hurts too much...”
“Perserque, don’t come any closer. I’ll deal with this quickly.”
The giant looked dangerous to Davey.
“Haah,” she sighed. “Davey, get off him.”
“Huh?”
“Right now.”
He retracted the power he was using to suppress the giant and silently stepped off of it. He then asked, “What’s going on?”
“That... That giant is a good boy who helped us.”
“Huh?” The confusion was clear on his face.
“This giant here? The giants I know aren’t like that.”
“Well, then it’s different from the giants you know. It’s the only giant in this world,” Perserque explained.
Davey nodded, finally understanding what she meant. “Oh, really? Well, then...”
“Ugh. Fairy, hurts...”
“Hurts so much...”
It was in rough shape, nearly covered with injuries.
Kouna carefully approached the giant and placed her hand on its body.
Davey didn't understand. “What’re you doing, Kouna?”
“I think I might be able to do it.”
She then closed her eyes and concentrated. When Davey tried to speak to her, Perserque restrained him by embracing him from behind.
“Hmm?”
“Just watch for now. I don’t know if she can do it, but...”
A sky-blue flow of energy rippled across Kouna’s body, and her eyes soon turned to the same color.
“Kouna?” His jaw dropped to the ground. “That...”
He also quickly realized what was happening and wore a stunned expression.
Kouna ultimately succeeded in healing the giant. She had been able to use a fraction of the power she displayed back when she was in a trance, but it was enough to get the job done.
“Thanks to fairy, me no hurt no more!”
“Fairy, this tasty! Try!
Leaving Kouna to talk with the giant, Perserque brought Davey up to speed about everything that had happened.
“Davey. If my thoughts are right, this is related to the power of time.”
“Time reversal, then? Are you asking if it’s a reversal limited to a specific area?”
She nodded.
“We need to check further,” he suggested, then continued, “But we should also consider other possibilities.”
“Other possibilities?”
“It’s similar to time reversal, but that’s not an easy feat. No matter how powerful Arbit is, it doesn't make sense.” Pondering deeply, Davey asked, “You said you saw a beastfolk?”
“Yes. It was completely covered in black mist, but I clearly saw unique beastfolk ears on its head.”
“Yet Kouna and the giant said they didn’t see it?”
“Maybe I was just seeing things?” If she was the only one who saw it, it could simply be a mistake.
“If there really is a guy like that, they’ll definitely leave a trace. I’ll check on it myself,” Davey declared.
“I hope I was mistaken...”
“It might be better if we find them, actually.”
Once he found them, they wouldn't be able to cause any more troublesome situations.
“This isn’t something to be taken so lightly, Davey.”
“I know, o’ sweet wife of mine.”
