The same thought ran back and forth in Willow’s mind, occupying her head until it felt like there was nothing else.
She couldn't escape the dread of facing the strongest potential and possibly failing to save her brother.
Doomsday gave off a terrifyingly dangerous feeling. It was beyond comparison to the seven deadly sins, though they also possessed powerful strength. Even from an elevated perspective like Willow's, Doomsday held a fearsome power.
It was something that instilled fundamental fear.
Even as a goddess, Willow was enveloped by the fear that she might not only be severely injured but possibly even annihilated if she wasn't careful. Yet, even so, she didn't back down. She got by through her understanding and belief that no one else but her could do the job.
She muttered to herself, “I’ll save you soon, Darian. Just wait for me...”
Whispering softly, she began to make contact with Doomsday in the depths of Darian’s consciousness. She couldn't retreat just because she was scared—that wasn't what her family was about.
Her father, Davey, had risked his life countless times to protect the entire family.
Fwoosh!!
Once she finally succeeded in making contact with Doomsday, an otherworldly scene began to unfold in front of her.
Unlike the other sins, simply making contact with Doomsday had sucked her into its unique space.
“Okay, whatever. You're a goddess, girl! Get a grip!!” Willow slapped both of her cheeks and hardened her expression.
Then, slowly, one step at a time, she walked forward.
She’d found herself alone within a vast, desolate forest. It was such a chaotic landscape that she could barely tell front from back or left from right, and it stirred a primal fear that made her instinctively want to turn around and leave. The ancient trees looked as though they might come alive at any moment to surround and crush her like a plum.
She felt like something might pop out from beyond the woods to attack her at any moment. Even when using her power as a goddess, she couldn't fully grasp the scale of the place she’d ended up in.
Willow moved forward slowly, then paused for a moment, remarking, “This place is too creepy...”
None of the things that should fundamentally exist in such a space were present.
Sure, she was in Darian's deep consciousness, but that alone didn't explain the confusing circumstances she’d found herself in.
“Hmm. Can you even call this deep consciousness?” she muttered to herself, frustrated.
The place felt like another reality.
That was when it happened. An eerie wind wrapped around her entire body before disappearing.
Then, in the forest where she couldn't even see a few inches ahead, something massive began to emerge in the distance. It looked like a gigantic humanoid wooden statue made entirely of trees.
Instinctively realizing that was where she needed to go, she tried to slowly speed up.
Yet, amazingly enough, there were things trying to stop her.
“Go away.”
“Don't come closer.”
Her small body trembled at the voices that seemed to freeze even her soul.
They blocked her approach with a wall of words, as if they were trying to brainwash her. It was just the beginning of what she needed to overcome.
Swoosh!! Thud!!!
The ancient tree branches, which had remained still until then, suddenly came flying at her from the darkness of the forest.
That was enough to confirm her suspicions.
Since she had only just entered, the resistance was still relatively weak, but she had a strong feeling that even a single hit from those branches would seriously damage her divinity.
She knew her father wouldn't have allowed such a thing to happen if he were there. She needed to live up to her father’s legacy and make him proud.
Willow gave her body a few light stretches, shook off the jitters, and then kicked off the ground. Using the giant trees as midair footholds, she dodged and weaved past the ancient tree trunks that relentlessly chased her, making her way deeper into the space in the process.
The tree trunks continued to threaten her with their movements, growing more fierce and meticulous as they tried to coil around Willow and suck her vitality dry. Nevertheless, Willow dodged them every time, swinging through the forest like a monkey or Georgina of the jungle.
She gave a wry smile and muttered, “Darian, don't you think it's a little heartless to stop your big sister with scary things like these?”
Fortunately, the slow tree trunks were easy for her to toy with and overcome, quickly being tangled together and broken apart under her movements.
Of course, the trunks also targeted her openings and tried to strike at her vulnerable spots.
Eventually, she couldn't help but flinch and call out, “Oops.”
A tree root wrapped around her ankle as she was about to kick off the ground and leap, instantly sucking her vitality and causing her to flinch and stumble. But then, something surprising happened.
The tree trunk suddenly bloated up as if it had overeaten, then abruptly exploded.
Disregarding their comrade’s death, a few more tree trunks sneaked in, aiming to wrap around her. Yet to the unrestrained Willow, they were all just meaningless sneak attacks.
Whack!!
“You little punk. Trying to mess with your big sister? You must have a death wish. You'll come to regret this eventually.”
Thud!!!
She extended a straight palm strike toward the tip of a sharply thrusting tree trunk. A massive, circular shockwave spread toward the ground and the sky from the point where her palm and the tip of the trunk collided.
Ssss.
Darian's potentials were, in a way, the same as his power. That meant they qualified as one of her targets for harmonization.
Of course, destroying Doomsday was the best option, but, unfortunately, she had to avoid anything that could put a big strain on his body. That was why she had gone through all that trouble to send the sins outside.
“That's it? Are you all finished now? Alright, then big sister's going now, okay?”
She smirked and looked up at the wooden statue, which was hundreds of meters tall, on the far side of the forest. It was so intricate that it looked like a person had simply been turned into a tree.
Its appearance was none other than...
“Dad...”
Davey O'Rowane's appearance.
He looked like he was holding something close to him, and on his head rested a dark, glowing gem. Its conspicuous placement may as well have been a giant sign with an arrow pointing to it saying ‘DOOMSDAY BODY HERE’ in giant neon lettering.
Just glancing at it made her vision feel like it was partly corrupted with darkness.
“Ugh.”
She was dumbfounded to find that a fifth of her vision had been covered in black mist from just one cursory glance at the gem.
Willow finally made her way past the ancient trees, which had suddenly stopped their resistance, and sped up again.
‘I can’t let myself carelessly glance at that gem again, or I don't know what will happen.’
The important thing was to clear away the distractions and reach the top of that wooden statue.
She needed to summit the wooden head of Davey. Only then would she be able to pour all of her power of harmonization into Doomsday, suppress it, and finally drive it out of Darian.
After that, she could just leave the rest to her father.
“Before that... this isn't gonna be easy.”
The atmosphere near the statue was completely different, like she had moved up a level.
“I don't know if I can make it to the end of this.”
Feeling slightly anxious, Willow gently touched the fluttering part of the winged dress she was wearing. The fragments then scattered as if they were alive and seeped into her.
“Phew. Okay.”
Bom!!
Flying wasn't allowed. She was in Doomsday’s space, after all. There was no way it would allow her to easily utilize her advantages. Willow had to run there herself.
Then, the moment she sped up, tree trunks started piercing in at her with an incomparable speed far surpassing that which they’d shown before.
While there had been at most four or five trunks assailing her at any given time before, the number had suddenly exceeded dozens, easily.
Nonetheless, they couldn't easily catch Willow, though the assault wasn't completely ineffective, either.
When one of the tree trunks coiled around her leg, not only did it suck away her vitality, but it also injected something into her through its nebulous power.
“Ugh?!”
It was a fragment of memory. It contained a record from the past, essentially a vision that had nothing to do with Willow.
“Ooop?!”
The simultaneous injection of memories coming from multiple sources instantly made her collapse.
“What the heck is this...”
Just like that, more tree trunks shot in from all sides.
“Ugh?!”
Willow, mouth wide as she screamed and writhed in pain, swung her arms wide and finally shattered all the tree trunks before leaping forward once more.
She had no clue why Doomsday was showing her these memories, though she figured they couldn’t just be fake. Upon further consideration, perhaps they could be records of the past inscribed in the land.
Doomsday’s power was utterly bizarre, after all.
Back when the concept of denomination hadn't even been established, a couple who acquired divine power used that strength to heal many people. The sick and the injured all recovered through their hands and returned to their normal lives.
However, the king at the time feared their influence and falsely branded them as servants of the devil. Instantly, the couple became fugitives. They went into hiding and disappeared from the public eye.
They managed to survive the pursuits, then one day, the king's sudden illness changed everything. Covered in strange blisters from head to toe, the king writhed in agony as his condition worsened.
It was the final fate of a man consumed by jealousy, as well as the price for someone who believed no one should stand above them, unable to tolerate the existence of anyone greater than themselves.
That was the first memory she saw. Then, another branch coiled around her arm and injected an additional memory into her.
The fugitive couple appeared before the dying king who was regretting his sins. The couple healed the king without delay, driving out all the evil energy that had spread throughout the royal palace.
In return, the king, who had been healed and had the evil energy driven out of his palace, burned them alive. His horrible actions were all committed because of the intense jealousy ensuring that he couldn't let beings who threatened his authority live.
Willow covered her mouth at the horrific memories. She saw many things, scenes beyond that typically witnessed by ordinary living beings.
“But this is just too much...” She staggered forward.
