“Huh? T-then!”
Willow looked back at Elysia, whose eyes had gone wide as if she'd just been betrayed. “I'm Willow, Goddess of Harmony. First time ever hearing of me, right?”
“Ah... yes.”
“I may not be omnipotent like Goddess Freyja, but you shouldn't underestimate me either.” As she spoke, Willow waved her hand, and the two of them drifted through the air as if carried by the wind, eventually arriving before a gleaming white temple with modern motifs. “I'm still a high-level goddess, after all, respected and noble above all—”
Wham!!!
Tumbling haphazardly through the air, a humanoid figure abruptly slammed into Willow from the side with dizzying speed.
“Gah!!”
Her divine power automatically protected her, so the impact barely affected her.
The girl who'd crashed into her simply bounced back, similarly unharmed. Unfortunately, the drink she'd been carrying flew into the air and splashed all over Willow and Elysia.
Startled by the sudden shower, Elysia instinctively shrank back. “Eek!”
She still hadn't fully processed the fact that a goddess had personally appeared and brought her to a holy land, and had even less idea what kind of blur had drenched her at what felt like mach speed.
The living projectile lay sprawled on the ground, red hair scattered and ruffled around her head. Willow thought she looked to be around her own age, but figured looks must be deceiving.
After staring in silence for a moment with a stiff expression, Willow snapped her fingers.
The spilled drink gathered itself in midair, returning to the cup with grace as if alive before vanishing completely.
Willow then slowly walked over to the girl, who had stood up and was clutching her head.
“Oww! Is your head made of rock or wh—GAAAH!!”
It didn't matter who the girl was. As Willow reached out toward the girl, who was about to lash out at her instead, a giant hand of light grabbed her face and lifted her into the air.
Neltarid’s panicked voice quickly rang out from past the edge of the temple, “S-senior! Don't!!”
Willow might've mellowed out after awakening as the Goddess of Harmony and receiving Davey and Perserque’s love, but her true temper hadn't gone anywhere. “Die, you rascal!!!”
Boom!!!
The girl was none other than Grace, the bold homunculus who'd demanded food from Neltarid and Davey the moment she was born. The blissfully naive and freshly born Grace was... knocked out with a single punch from Willow.
Davey, Neltarid, and a succubus Willow had met before rushed out, but none of them had managed to stop her from carrying out her punishment.
* * *
Yushir, the Sword of the Succubi, a master-level transcendent who'd once been the Queen of Succubi’s greatest supporter, looked at Elysia and told the group, “Succubi with traits like hers usually don't live long. It’s just like how humans can't survive without eating.”
A human with no mouth could not even scream, let alone eat. Of course, her case wasn't that extreme, but a succubus who couldn't crave and siphon love or vital energy from the opposite sex would inevitably wither away.
“They face the greatest danger at a young age, since they can't survive on simple meals alone. They need vitality shared by their parents.”
While no one knew what kind of demon Elysia's father had been, at the very least, her birth parents seemed to have improvised and found some way to keep her alive.
“If she were a higher-level succubus, she might not need that kind of vital energy to survive, but lower-level succubi can't survive without it.”
Food helped maintain a succubus's physical body, but their mental cravings required vital energy or love from the opposite sex.
Willow was desperate for a solution, eager to successfully complete her first godly request. “Is there any way to work around it?”
“A way? Hmmm. Thankfully, her condition isn't too serious. Her instincts are still acting the way they should, thankfully. It’s remarkable, considering her natural release of pheromones to the point that she not only has no resistance to the opposite sex, but even feels repulsed by them.”
In other words, Elysia’s racial instincts craved the opposite sex, but her unusual trait effectively suppressed those instincts by creating a revulsion and vague fear toward the opposite sex.
After thinking for a moment, Yushir brought up an extreme method, suggesting, “It's a bit of a drastic treatment, but... the best option is to lock the two of them together in a sturdy room.”
They would remain in that room until she finally managed to adapt to his presence, getting used to him.
Willow was absolutely flabbergasted at the suggestion. It wasn't like they were shooting a reality show or making a viral video.
Not knowing whether to laugh or cry, Davey shook his head and remarked, “I shouldn’t have expected anything less from a weird-ass succubi like you...”
Yushir was unbothered by his jab, insisting, “It's still the best and quickest solution.”
Willow wouldn't accept it. “Please, is there any other option?”
Yushir answered in an indifferent tone, “I suppose they can live together in a modest family home until she gets used to him, though visitors and regular interaction can be allowed.”
Willow gave a sigh of relief, happy she wouldn't have to conduct such an experiment on two strangers. “Thanks for your help.”
“Just call or beep me any time you wanna reach me in the future, and I'll be happy to help. It’s the least I can do to repay my debt.” Yushir bowed her head in deference despite her own exceptional power.
She had been searching for someone on the Tionis Continent, only to later learn that her target was Aina Helishana. It was quite serendipitous that those two, who had briefly shared a teacher-student bond, had wandered around searching for each other all that time.
After making a final check of Elysia's condition, Yushir returned through a rift Davey opened for her.
She had pressed one of Elysia’s pressure points, making sure she stayed asleep with no sign of waking or fussing.
Only then did Willow find a chance to point at the red-haired girl sprawled on the floor and question, “More importantly, Dad... What is that?”
“Ah... Well, it looks like Neltarid messed up a little.”
Willow exasperatedly sighed, “Haaah. Somehow I’m not surprised.”
Neltarid uncomfortably jostled in place, offering, “I have no excuse, Senior.”
“Okay, sure.” Willow found that to be very reasonable. She gave her father a leery look and continued, “But still... why did you come over here, Dad?”
“I came to see if you were doing well.”
Her eyes widened, lighting up with pleasant surprise. Nonetheless, much like someone with blood on their hands, Willow’s first instinct was to be suspicious of his magnanimity. Her voice lowered as she cautiously confirmed, “You're... not going to scold me?”
“No. I won't scold you.”
She finally allowed herself to feel relief, but still wondered, “W-why not?”
“Why else? If I decided to trust you, then I should go all the way and believe you’ll make the right choices.”
After her handling of the previous incident with Doomsday, Willow had earned his trust, and Davey had kept his promise to her.
Her eyes welled up with tears, touched by the absence of verbal savagery. “Dad...”
Davey was happy to see her feeling happy. He looked back to the unconscious Elysia, remarking, “Getting back to the main topic, I don't know whether I should be relieved she didn't recognize me.”
“She's going to find out anyway, so what does it matter?”
There was no way Elysia wouldn't know about the insanely popular and influential Saint of Tionis. Of course, there was still a chance she wouldn’t know what he looked like.
“What I'm more worried about is that...” Willow sighed as she turned back to look at Grace. “Haaah. What's wrong with this girl’s personality?”
“Believe me, it’s been a headache for me too.”
Even if she was a homunculus, it wouldn't have been a problem if she'd been more like a golem, like Anabelle or Dirro. Yet, she acted and thought so much like a real person that it felt strange.
“It's like creating a child and then selling that child off somewhere else, right?”
When Willow explained as if she understood, Davey gave an awkward smile and shook his head. “It's a little more complicated than that.”
“Huh?”
“Since Neltarid created her from the start with the intention of having her stay by Park Seung-Hyun’s side, she instinctively knows she has to go to his side. She wants that too.”
Although Neltarid had created her, Grace’s top priority was essentially Park Seung-Hyun.
The problem was...
Davey gave a wry smile. “She eats an unbelievable amount.”
Willow sighed, lost for words.
He continued, “If that eating machine goes to Park Seung-Hyun, he’s gonna be broke in no time.”
No one had seen that coming.
“And on top of that...” Davey paused for a moment and sighed. “She's way lazier than you’d imagine.”
Before ever serving as a housekeeper for him, it was more likely that he’d end up serving her instead.
No matter how he looked at it, Davey couldn't help feeling guilty about dumping that lazy freeloader on Park Seung-Hyun, who was practically Evangeline's benefactor.
On top of that, if he wanted nothing to do with the lazy Grace, Davey worried what her existence would become, how she would live in. After all, she’d literally be rejected by her one and only purpose.
Willow tried to defend Moderation, knowing that though he might seem casual on the outside, he was actually a pretty decent person. “Come on, Dad, you know he’s not that kind of person.”
But then...
Poke, poke.
Grace must’ve regained consciousness at some point. She lay there lazily, poking Willow’s side with the tip of her toe, and their eyes met.
Met with Willow’s silence, she asked, “Hey... when do we eat? I want to try that pizza thing or whatever.”
Given the way she acted, even a saint would probably lose their mind if shacked up with her.
Willow steeled herself, stood up, and gathered divine power into one hand. She explained with compassion, “It's okay, the pain will only last a second. Blame Neltarid for creating you like this.”
Seeing the goddess’s smile, Grace suddenly bolted away with such speed one would think she’d never stood still, let alone lazily lain on the ground, a single second in her entire life.
“Hey! Get back here!”
Willow had only dealt with her for a brief moment, but even that was enough to make the girl’s blood boil. She couldn't imagine what Davey and Neltarid had gone through over the past few days.
She also couldn't help wondering whether Park Seung-Hyun, who'd have to live with her from now on, could really put up with her.
“Dad... I think I get it now.”
“Right?”
