Seung-Hyun felt completely drained after their visit to the Church of Neltarid.
Grace really was full of surprises. Her body had been created from the flesh of a slime. Specifically, it was a Slime Lord, one of the highest-level beings of its kind.
To be honest, Seung-Hyun had only been half-joking when he wished for an android that could change its appearance. If he had to be specific, he'd made the request because he thought having a model would be useful as a reference when he drew. It would enable fantastical poses and otherworldly features, elevating his art to new levels that weren't restricted even by technology and 3D rendering.
Maybe that was why Grace looked incredibly uninhibited and free-spirited from head to toe.
They managed to easily acquire her necessities on the spot with the help of the members of the Order. She’d even been given immaculate clothes befitting royalty or heiresses to vast fortunes, yet she still preferred to hang out at home in just a white oversized T-shirt and underwear.
Due to being completely worn out by the unexpected onslaught of negotiations, Seung-Hyun’s exhaustion lasted multiple days after they finished. Even after a few days of rest, Seung-Hyun was similarly sprawled out on his bed, showing no signs of ever getting up.
Having already announced that he was taking a break from streaming, freeing him of all obligations, all he wanted was to relax.
Yet the rambunctious homunculus Grace seemed to be full of energy. “Food!!”
He groggily muttered, “You just ate.”
“Let's play a game! A game!”
“Not doing it. I'm going to sleep.”
‘I also need to clean. Jeez.’
It was unlikely she’d listen if he told her to clean, and judging by her behavior thus far, he didn’t know if he could even trust her to do it correctly. She seemed more interested in being a sloth than completing tasks with due diligence.
“Maybe I should just hire an actual housekeeper...”
While he could do all of the tasks himself, he felt he should pay more attention to meals now that he wasn’t responsible for just one person.
Fortunately, thanks to Grace's shower of sacred items, his bank account was loaded with seemingly unending funds. Of course, a good portion of that money would ultimately go to taxes, but the important thing was that it was enough money for him to live a life of luxury and never have to work again.
‘Haaah. What is this futile feeling?’
After working so hard to earn money through streaming, Seung-Hyun couldn't help but feel conflicted when an even larger fortune fell into his lap overnight.
“Grace,” he finally managed to call out.
Her face quickly lit up. “Yeah? Gonna play now?”
“Go... clean.”
Hearing his request, her expression soured instantly. Then, she plopped down right next to him on the bed. She confidently informed him, “Too much effort.”
“You lazybones,” he chided light-heartedly, resolving himself to her laziness.
“Forget about that! Let's just go play a gaaaaame.”
It felt just like raising a toddler.
Seung-Hyun had tried to hand off the cleaning and housework because he found them annoying as well. Now, he was the one stuck doing it all. Even worse, it was actually even more work since he had an added source of dirtiness and responsibility.
It was different from his wish and the contract's terms!
However, strangely enough, things had felt different for him ever since Grace came into his life. She was a girl who had fully become his family, unlike Eva, Si-Woo, or his other fellow streamer friends.
Seung-Hyun, looking tired, grabbed a lock of her hair and mumbled, “It's red.”
“Do you happen to have a different color you want?” she offered.
“You'll change it?”
“If you play a game with me, sure.”
“Deal.” Seung-Hyun was tired, but he didn’t mind. He was still young, so a little bit of overwork wouldn't hurt.
He slowly got up, and Grace excitedly set up the game and passed him a controller.
On the screen, a beautiful girl moved brilliantly and swung a sword.
Grace pointed out, “It seems like you play as that character every time.”
“This one has really great skills, you know?”
She thought she might know the real reason. “Looks, too, no?”
“You do know how famous that character is, right? I even collected its figures.”
The two were playing a co-op adventure game. The longsword-wielding character Seung-Hyun chose was particularly famous and popular.
She nonchalantly mumbled, “So you like characters like that, huh?”
Then, as if she'd thought of something, Grace suddenly jumped to her feet. She looked the character up and down before closing her eyes. At the same time, her appearance began to change.
While her overall bone structure didn't change, her hair color, eye size, and mouth shape all became identical to the character's. It was as if the character had stepped straight out of the game. Most surprisingly, she was able to replicate the character's appearance without any kind of uncanny valley effects. It was a completely accurate interpretation of the character’s design, adapted to reality.
As Seung-Hyun stared at her in stunned silence, Grace, looking pleased with herself, poked him in the side with the tip of a strand of her hair. “Let's go again!”
“Uuuuh, are you going to stay like that?”
She waved a hand. “This is just mimicry, ezpz. It's not my real form.”
Even though she looked like a typical girl, Grace was a homunculus, not human. Still, though she was a homunculus, she was pretty much a living being.
“Ah... I died.”
When Seung-Hyun died and a respawn timer appeared, he pulled out his phone.
News outlets and social media were still abuzz about the person who’d supposedly brought sacred items to the Church of Neltarid. Of course, the sacred items didn't seem to mean too much for the general public, but he wondered how the religious figures would react.
“Who knew that sacred items held such power and influence...”
In the interest of preserving and protecting the sacred items, the church had decided to restrict outsiders’ access. The church had yet to fully reveal all the details of the items, instead announcing a forthcoming collection of photos and videos of the items for the public to enjoy.
The planned photos and videos showed Saintess Agatha working with the archbishops. While most of the talking was done by the archbishops, Agatha was, quite literally, a symbol of the church. Her presence was absolutely required in their promotional imagery.
Seeing Agatha, who was slightly pale but acting as a Saintess without fear, Seung-Hyun wondered if it was right for her to be doing that and working so hard. “Look at her face, she must be exhausted...”
Just then, his phone vibrated with a message from Evangeline.
Whummm.
[Si-Woo is on a blind date. Wanna go check it out?]
“Come to think of it, Evangeline isn't even ten years old, and yet she streams in front of tens of thousands of people. At this point, nothing surprises me anymore.”
He chuckled and sent a reply.
[Be there soon.]
He then casually strode off toward the bathroom, calling out, “Grace! Stop playing and get ready to go out.”
“What?” She shook her head, insisting, “Too much effort. I'll just stay home.”
“It's gonna be a blast. Don’t tell me you're gonna miss something fun?”
She hesitated for a moment, then seemed to come to a decision and sighed, “Haaah. Nah, that'd definitely be too much effort.”
Seeing her slightly discontented attitude, Seung-Hyun gave a reluctant nod. If she didn't want to go, he couldn't exactly force her to come along against her will.
“Alright.” He quickly washed up and finished preparing to leave. He changed into some light clothes, saying, “Well then, be sure to watch over the house while I’m gone. I hope you enjoy being here by yourself the whole time.”
Grace gave up on the game she liked so much and stared at Seung-Hyun like a demon. “Fine, I’ll go!”
He smirked, insisting and teasing, “Nah, that's okay, you can just stay home like you wanted. I'll be back soon.”
“You expect me to eat alone without you?”
“Guess so?”
“Too much effort! Let's eat out!”
Her common sense seemed to grow by the day.
* * *
The two of them met up with Evangeline in a park. Unlike Evangeline or Seung-Hyun, Grace's red hair was a real attention grabber.
Evangeline, wearing a beige two-piece suit and black sunglasses, looked up at Seung-Hyun.
Seung-Hyun snatched her sunglasses. “Hey, you kid. Why are you trying to act like a grown-up?”
“Give it back!”
Following a vicious jab to the ribs, he was kind enough to return her property.
“It looks like you're doing well,” Evangeline said, looking at Grace, who was yawning loudly.
Grace had arrived in her true form, having discarded the bespoke form from the game. That was due to Seung-Hyun's warning not to walk around looking like a game character attracting attention.
Grace, who was naturally averse to effort, found mimicry quite bothersome as well. She had no problem with reverting back.
Grace got a shiver down her spine and turned to look at Evangeline, who was already looking back. “What? Why are you staring at me?”
“You're the one who’s asking for it.” As Evangeline's pupils instantly slit vertically, Grace yelped and hid behind Seung-Hyun. It was done with an unimaginable swiftness belying her usual slow movements.
“Doesn't she seem kind of crazy?” Grace warily remarked to Seung-Hyun. “I saw some videos of her before we came, and one even showed her pulverizing a boulder with her bare hands. If she hit me with that fist of hers, I'd turn into a pancake.”
“If you know that, then stop messing around! You prick!”
When Seung-Hyun roughly ruffled Grace's hair, her face instantly crumpled. He then asked Evangeline, “More importantly, where’s Si-Woo?”
“Just a moment.”
Evangeline's pointy ears twitched slightly, and she pointed in one direction. “Ah. There he is.”
They saw Si-Woo nervously looking around and repeatedly checking his watch.
Evangeline was confused by his behavior. “He was once the most popular professional gamer, and is still a famous streamer. Why is he so stiff about meeting someone?”
Seung-Hyun smirked, teasing, “You're still too young to understand, kiddo.”
She was kind enough to give him another job to the ribs as thanks.
“Cough!”
As Seung-Hyun collapsed in pain, Evangeline grabbed him by the back of the neck, and the three of them quickly hid behind the nearest cover.
At the same time, two people approached Si-Woo.
One was a familiar face—Willow.
The other who approached with Willow was...
“Wow...” Seung-Hyun let out a genuine gasp.
He had heard the stories from Si-Woo, but it was Seung-Hyun’s first time seeing her in person.
“Seriously... how’s that even possible?”
“My goodness...”
Although he had seen many women, Elysia was simply overwhelming. Her slender figure and pink-tinted hair drew the eyes of countless people in the park.
However, Elysia herself seemed extremely burdened by all the attention, constantly fidgeting.
“Si-Woo can't take his eyes off her.”
He was currently the only one immune to the pheromones Elysia emitted.
Of course, it wasn't because he was special. Yushir, the Sword of the Succubi, had created an immunity drug for him to take.
Nonetheless, ever since meeting Elysia, Si-Woo had been completely unable to take his eyes away from her.
