People didn't change easily.
Davey had built countless golems as a hobby, their utility allowing them to double as defensive systems for Heins. The two fleets were naturally built in accordance to his personal tastes and preferences, and they’d evolved accordingly.
However, the creation of Grace was unprecedented. While there had been several previous instances of bodies constructed using special entities, she had been the first time a god directly sculpted an ego and settled it within a bespoke body.
During Grace’s construction, Davey had entered a brand new frontier. Hence, it hadn't taken long for his crazy streak to come out again, full of passion and radical ideas. Davey had given Grace various abilities based on the combat data he had compiled, but the majority were mere child’s play compared to his final contribution.
Grace contained data on a multitude of entities, Killer Rabbit among them.
Inadvertently activating the hidden ability, her body rapidly transformed. However, she appeared to have trouble completing the transformation, as only white rabbit ears and a tail appeared on her slightly paler body.
Crunch.
The monstrous strength Grace used to tear off the tentacles with her bare hands was unlike anything she’d shown before.
Her eyes, which had turned red, held an uncharacteristic ferocity.
The leading infected shouted, “Shit, we fucked up! Subdue her NOW!”
Heeding his orders, the Awakened individuals all charged toward Grace.
The dagon parasite’s survival instinct was strong, but the leader deeply realized that Grace's mimicry capabilities were beyond any measure they could have anticipated.
Their plan to abandon their current hosts, move into new ones, and gradually take over was falling apart in the blink of an eye. They nonetheless persisted, believing that so long as Grace, their natural enemy, disappeared, there would be no one left to detect them.
Crack!!!
A physical-type Awakened lunged at the morphing homunculus with flashing speed. Grace kept her head lowered as she continued her transformation, then reached out with one small hand and grabbed the man by the neck.
Her body was incredibly slender, yet the Awakened could only choke helplessly, unable to put up any resistance. She lowered her arm without releasing her grip, and the man instantly dropped to his knees. His face turned beet-red, looking as though it might burst from the immense pressure.
“Gaaa... Gaaa...”
Watching the man suffer, Grace, oozing with fury, chillingly shot, “Seung-Hyun got badly hurt because of you guys. What are you going to do about it?”
“Damn it, is she already too much for us to handle?! In that case, we need to escape...” Realizing the dire circumstances, the Association Head immediately tried to rush toward a flying-type Awakened to escape the area.
Rattle!! Whoosh!!!
However, as soon as Si-Woo, who lay wounded on the ground, pulled a nearby lever, a wall of magical fire instantly surrounded the warehouse’s perimeter.
He smirked, taunting, “You dagon parasites... aren't you weak to fire?”
“You... you fucking bastard!!”
Boom!!!
Grace may have only possessed twenty percent of Killer Rabbit’s, but it was an ancient demonic beast powerful beyond imagination.
Thump!!! Thump!!
She was the very definition of toughness, wildness, and crazed violence.
Her red eyes flashed as she madly subdued the enemies one after another. Her robotic voice announced, “Mimicry time limit expired. Selecting other foundational identity. Activating second set of data.”
The ears that had sprouted on her head vanished, and two horns began to grow instead. The elements that had been recreating Killer Rabbit’s body disappeared, and the light in her hair was dyed like the Milky Way.
“Constellation Taurus, replicability 15%.”
The percentage had decreased, yet regardless of the lowered proficiency, a strange battle energy poured out from her.
Grace, who had transformed to have a more voluptuous figure, slightly lowered her stance. She was aiming for the main infected.
The head of the Awakened Association felt her stare in his soul. “W-what?!”
The infected and the main body knew that if they were to be caught, that’d be the end of them. The dagon parasite's main body, which had taken over the head of the Awakened Association, instinctively sensed the danger and frantically shouted, “Stop her!!!”
Following the command, a bulky man instantly blocked her path.
The man blocked her charge with his bare hands and roared, “GRRRR!!!”
Thud!!!
With an immense battle cry, he unleashed a fierce burst of force toward Grace.
Thump!!!
At the same time, an invisible shockwave wrapped around Grace and sent her sliding backward. However, his shockwave failed to push Grace away completely.
She was an imitation, nothing more than a fraction of Constellation Taurus. Though the replicability was fifteen percent, that didn't mean it was fifteen percent of its full power.
Even so, her strength was truly beyond imagination.
The man who clashed with her was clearly a high-ranking Awakened, but the entity she had recreated with vast information was a constellation. On top of that, among the constellations, it was the most powerful Constellation Taurus.
Naturally, the Awakened who faced her head-on was swiftly sent flying like a cannonball, spraying blood as both his arms twisted grotesquely out of shape. The majority of the other Awakened individuals caught in that shockwave were instantly incapacitated.
Of course, Grace wasn't completely unscathed, either. Even though her body was optimized for transformation; her soul had been personally crafted by a god; and she possessed the extraordinary abilities Davey had instilled, she still couldn't completely escape the backlash.
She was pushed back from the force, and her entire body intensely shimmered, causing the mimicry to instantly break.
Breathing heavily, as if she had just done a hundred meter dash, she trembled slightly as she looked at the carnage she had caused.
If she could have maintained that powerful state, it would’ve been an overwhelming victory. Alas, she still lacked the strength to sustain it.
The surroundings were a catastrophe.
It was a display of power where, if normal Awakened had been hit directly by the force, it wouldn't have been strange for them to be reduced to lumps of meat. Fortunately for the powerful Awakened who'd blocked her attack, he managed to come away critically wounded instead of dead.
Grace, still unfamiliar with her mimicry power, had lost control of it at the very end and lost strength.
“Haah. Haah.” She glared at the surroundings, an eerie gleam in her eyes. “If I leave those things alone... Haah. Haah. Seung-Hyun will get hurt again.”
She began forcibly drawing out her power once more. She intended to regain the senses of mimicry before she lost them completely.
After only a brief moment, her body once more succeeded in a partial mimicry again.
“Wha... What the hell?!” The Association Head was horrified, and retreated as Grace unleashed another astonishing burst of power. The few Awakened still standing moved to stop her, but she relentlessly smashed and subdued them and continued charging toward the Association Head.
There was no one left to protect him.
As he screamed in shock, Grace prepared to deliver a punch filled with immense power.
Suddenly, he gave a sinister smile. “Heh.”
Thud!!!
Grace was instantly flung back, dumbfounded, coughing and gasping for breath. “How...?”
“In all my years of existence, I've never seen a Slime Lord like you. Your human form is ridiculous enough, but that monstrous power is even more absurd.” The head walked forward, exuding a chilling aura. “But you've reached your limit. You barely had any strength left when you attacked me just now, didn't you?”
In the end, Grace was the one who ran out of energy first.
“I'm surprised. Truly, shocked by your power. It’d be best if I could infect you, but I can't infect a Slime Lord, so I have no choice—I'll just have to kill you here.”
Si-Woo, who was on the ground and sweating nervously, sneered. “Hey, monster! Haah. Haah. Even if you kill us here, you’ve already been exposed.”
There was no way that the others weren’t already aware that the head of the Awakened Association had infected a large number of Awakened individuals and attacked the island.
Whether it was the rest of the association or the cooperating Sacred Group, both would’ve already dispatched pursuit teams.
“It seems you're misunderstanding something, human. As you said, my main body is parasitizing this human, yet if I temporarily abandon this host body and infest a nearby sea creature, do you think anyone could catch me? With the only Slime Lord gone, finding me would be practically impossible.”
“That's funny. Machines can detect dagon parasite's infection status without a—”
“But yet they couldn’t. Am I wrong?”
Si-Woo fell silent.
The infected man continued, “I was special from birth. I'm an evolved being, unlike the others of my race.”
“You damned son of a bitch!”
“Even if they come to help you, it's already too late.” The association head picked up a sword lying nearby. He approached Grace, who was powerless and unable to move. “The typical Slime Lord has a massive core. You must have one, too.”
He grasped the sword in a reverse grip, then aimed it at her heart. He mocked, “Where is your core, I wonder?”
She had no response.
“Are you scared?”
Grace merely glared back, seemingly unafraid of her own death.
“So your own life isn't valuable to you? Then...” He slowly walked over and held the sword to Seung-Hyun’s neck before continuing, “How about this?”
Her eyes flew open. “Don't!”
“Hmm. Now that sure gets a reaction.”
“I said don't, you son of a bitch!!” she screamed, turning deathly pale. Of course, he didn't stop, seeming to find the harrowing situation amusing.
He continued to provoke Grace, feigning a stab as if playing a game. “This is all your fault, you know? If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have had to reveal my identity so early and so recklessly.”
Frankly, it was strange for the main body to be there at all. There was no real reason for the main body to have come directly in order to handle it.
That fact gave Si-Woo enough of a clue to form a hypothesis—perhaps the parasite needed to be close by in order to control a large number of Awakened individuals.
Confident of his deduction, he scoffed and began, “You... you're not fully complete yet, are you?”
The man went stiff, frozen in shock.
“That's why you had to come here yourself! You need to be close to the others, and Grace is a threat to your very existence. You were practically forced to come here in order to deal with her, consequences be damned.”
The man slowly approached Si-Woo with an angry expression. “It seems I’ll have to kill you now too, Einstein.”
Elysia hurriedly stepped forward to block him, but the association head pointed his sword at her. “Do you think you can stop me? I'm sorry to say this, but I'm different from my kin. Even this powerless body can provide me immense strength.”
Elysia seemed to resolve herself, clasping her hands together and firmly declaring, “I can't allow you to harm him.”
Si-Woo was distraught. “Elysia! Please step back!”
“N-no!”
Unaffected by her stubbornness, the association head imbued his sword with a dark aura.
