The Military Princess Won’t Fall in Love with a Magic Scientist
Chapter 202 : Chapter 202Chapter 202. A Show of Force
“Baron Balon, was it?” Logaris pushed up his glasses, and a gentle, refined smile curved at the corner of his mouth as well.
“Yes, yes, yes. What instructions does the Professor have?”
“Since District A is full of wounded soldiers, then that works out perfectly.” Logaris spoke with the sincerity of a compassionate priest. “This time, we from the Northern Territory brought quite a few professional medics and highly effective medicine. Why not move the wounded in District A elsewhere and let us move in? We can help treat their injuries while we’re at it. After all, they are comrades who bled for the kingdom. How can we just stand by and watch them suffer?”
The smile on Balon’s face stiffened for a moment, but he quickly resumed that troubled expression. “Th-this... how could we possibly trouble your army like that? Besides, reallocating a defense district requires approval from above, and then coordination between various departments. For the whole process to run its course would take at least three days. I’m afraid that would only leave all you honored guests waiting out in the snow and wind...”
That was the soft nail hidden in the words. In other words: the rules are here, so go obediently stay in the mud pit.
“The process is too slow...”
Logaris let out a light sigh, as if somewhat regretful.
He took a step forward, stopping less than half a meter away from Balon. One slender, fair, sharply defined hand came to rest lightly on Balon’s thick shoulder.
“Your Excellency, I think we can make an exception for special circumstances.”
“Professor, that would be against protocol...” Balon was still wearing that fake smile, still trying to use the usual bureaucratic evasions to brush the matter aside.
The next second—
Bzzz——!!!
A terrifying invisible fluctuation erupted without warning from the hand resting on his shoulder.
Gravity Spellwork · Tenfold Amplification.
Crack!
The crisp sound of bones breaking was especially piercing amid the noise of the station.
The false smile on Baron Balon’s face froze instantly, then twisted into extreme terror and agony.
He did not even have time to scream before his entire body was smashed down as if by an invisible giant hand. More than two hundred pounds of fat lost control at once, and his knees slammed heavily into the hard stone ground.
Bang!
The ground cracked, shards of stone flying everywhere.
Both of Balon’s knees shattered on impact. He knelt directly before Logaris, his head pinned to the ground by the crushing gravity. The flesh on his face was squashed out of shape. That respectful expression from before had vanished, leaving only humiliation and distortion, while all he could manage were ragged, wheezing gasps.
The dozens of Second Prince guards who had been watching the show from the side instantly exploded into motion.
“What are you doing?!”
“Let go of my lord!”
Sching! Sching!
The sound of swords being drawn rose one after another as dozens of gleaming blades were leveled at Logaris.
Yet the moment they drew their swords—
Click—click—click.
A far denser, colder, and more terrifying chorus of mechanical bolts being pulled back rang out in perfect unison, like Death grinding its teeth.
Logaris did not even need to give the order. The three thousand soldiers of the new Northern Territory army raised their Magitech rifles almost by reflex.
Three thousand black gun barrels locked onto those few dozen guards in an instant. That perfectly uniform, icy killing intent froze the guards where they stood, and cold sweat broke out over them immediately.
Logaris did not even spare them a glance.
He crouched down, took a spotless white handkerchief from his pocket, and calmly wiped the sweat from Balon’s forehead.
“You see, as long as your thinking doesn’t slip, there are always more solutions than difficulties.”
Logaris pushed up his glasses, his tone still mild and humble. “Baron, I now think that high ground in District A looks quite good. If the ‘wounded’ originally stationed there truly cannot be moved, I would not mind letting my soldiers help them along. What do you think of my suggestion?”
As he spoke, he loosened the gravitational pressure slightly, allowing Balon to drag in a life-saving breath.
“I... I think... it’s very good...” Balon was in so much pain that tears and snot were smeared across his face. There was none of the calm composure of a smiling tiger left in him. He nodded frantically like a pecking chicken, terrified that if he was even a second too slow, his neck would be crushed. “J-just District A! I’ll have them clear it out right now! Immediately!”
“Very good. It seems we have reached a consensus.”
Satisfied, Logaris patted the face that had already swollen into a pig’s head, then stood up and casually tossed the oil- and sweat-stained handkerchief into the nearby trash bin.
“Akash, take the men to District A. I want the camp set up within half an hour.”
“Yes, sir!”
...
This little incident on the station platform spread through the whole of Scream Fortress as if it had grown wings.
At the command tower in the center of the fortress—
Second Prince Carlisle stood before a massive floor-to-ceiling window with a glass of red wine in his hand, overlooking the black column of troops advancing in the distance.
“Interesting.”
Carlisle’s gray eyes narrowed slightly, and a playful smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “That old bastard Morton was right. The brat really is a thorn. He crippled my logistics officer the moment he arrived. That was a slap in my face.”
Standing behind him was a middle-aged knight in heavy silver armor. He was the representative of the old king’s faction, the peak Sixth-Tier warrior known as the Blazing Ash Blade, Karlsas.
“That young man is very powerful.” Karlsas’s voice was as heavy as iron. “The surge of mana just now... it was extremely pure, and his control was astonishing. So this is the genius of Saint Arcadia Academy, the one seen only once in a century?”
Meanwhile, on the high ground of District A—
A noble private army belonging to the First Prince’s faction, which had originally been stationed there, was cursing as they moved their things.
“Why should we give up our place for those Northern Territory barbarians?”
“Shh! Keep your voice down! Haven’t you heard? That madman leading them crippled Lord Balon’s legs right on the platform! Even the Second Prince’s guards didn’t dare make a move!”
No matter how resentful they were, after seeing Baron Balon carried away on a stretcher while howling like a pig being slaughtered, these noble young masters—who usually bullied the weak and feared the strong—very wisely chose to shut their mouths.
No one wanted to test whether that bespectacled madman truly dared to kill.
The Northern Territory soldiers quickly took over the high ground.
But what they did next left all the bystanders staring in shock.
These Northern Territory barbarians did not pitch tents and cook meals like a normal army. Instead, they pulled out sharp-edged entrenching shovels and started... digging pits?
“Move faster! Didn’t you eat?”
With an entrenching shovel in hand, Akash bellowed in his booming voice. With one swing of his shovel, a huge chunk of the frozen-hard ground was thrown aside.
The three thousand Northern Territory recruits worked with tremendous energy despite the freezing weather.
They did not understand why they were digging pits.
No one had ever taught them to burrow like marmots.
But this was the Professor’s order.
In the Northern Legion, the Professor’s words carried more weight than an imperial decree.
In less than half a day, crisscrossing trenches appeared all across the high ground.
These trenches were two meters deep and about one and a half meters wide. Gravel and wooden planks were laid across the bottom, and dugouts were carved into both sides specifically for storing ammunition and for resting.
Strangest of all, these trenches were not straight. They formed a bizarre zigzag pattern.
