A sharp glint flashed across his lenses, as though he had seized upon a crucial clue and forcibly assembled all the scattered pieces of the puzzle into one whole.

“Wait. If we follow that logic, then one phenomenon becomes very interesting.”

Logaris raised his head and stared at Maggie with burning intensity. “I handled a case in White Harbor. The official intelligence agency of the Tyrenia Kingdom was secretly cooperating with a heretical organization called the Church of Sinking. And the members of that church displayed obvious nonhuman traits—scales on their bodies and gills.”

“If Tyrenia worships the God of Storms, the one who took over the Authority of the seas, then why would they support a cult that causes its believers to devolve into ancient sea beasts? Wouldn’t that be blasphemy against the ‘new god’?”

At those words, Maggie’s ghostly blue eyes flickered faintly, as though she were searching through the memory fragments she had just read from Logaris.

A moment later, she let out a meaningful sneer.

“Blasphemy? No. Perhaps it is ‘self-preservation’... or perhaps ‘collusion.’”

“I saw what those monsters looked like in your memories. In ancient magic studies, that kind of mutation is called ‘atavistic reversion.’ What those believers displayed were precisely the traits of the vassals once subordinate to the Blue Dragon King, Marifondus.”

Floating in midair, Maggie spoke with a trace of mockery in her tone. “If even the official institutions of a kingdom are cooperating with that kind of power, then it can only mean one thing—the ‘God of Storms’ they worship has most likely developed a serious problem.”

“A god is a vessel of law. If the vessel itself has developed cracks, or has been eroded in reverse by the will of the old days... then some abnormalities among its clergy are hardly surprising.”

“In that case...” Logaris arched his brow and began jotting things down rapidly in his notebook. “Things are gradually becoming interesting.”

Then his pen turned, and he threw out another question that had troubled him for a long time.

“What about the Corruption Church? I encountered the Skeleton King they summoned on the battlefield in Frigid Valley. That thing even possessed divine power.”

Logaris narrowed his eyes as he recalled the scene. “That kind of power... how should I describe it? It was filled with death, decay, and absolute darkness. It could even achieve explosive bursts of strength by sacrificing life.”

“Corruption? Decay?”

Maggie’s expression became serious in a way that was rare for her. She fell silent for a moment before slowly speaking a name.

“If my guess is correct, then the corresponding Authority should belong to the Black Dragon King, Noxarum.”

“The Black Dragon King?” Sylvia could not help interrupting. “Was it sealed too? Which god corresponds to it?”

“No.”

Maggie shook her head. There was not the slightest ripple in those ghostly blue eyes, as though she were reciting nothing more than objective historical data.

“In truth, the Old War was not nearly as perfect as you imagine. The Nine Dragon Kings were not all sealed or destroyed.”

She raised a hand and lightly traced several symbols in the air, her tone flat and calm.

“The Yellow Dragon King, Terragon, held the Authority of ‘earth,’ and its life was bound to the land itself. Even when all the gods joined forces back then, they could not completely destroy its body. In the end, the gods used some special method to force it into a prolonged slumber. Its colossal body now lies sleeping somewhere in this world.”

“As for the Silver Dragon King, Specter—that cunning Observer of Space-Time—it tore open the dimensional barrier the instant the tide of battle turned against it. It fled this plane entirely and escaped into a void fissure beyond even the reach of the gods. Its whereabouts remain unknown to this day.”

At this point, Maggie paused. Her gaze swept over the shocked expressions on the two younger faces before she continued.

“As for the White Dragon King, Aetherion, who stood at the very apex... its ending was the most complete of all. So complete, in fact, that I suspect there were other hidden factors involved. It was scattered apart by the united assault of the gods.”

“Scattered apart?” Logaris instantly caught the significance of the phrase.

“Yes. Shattered on the physical level. Dissociated on the level of the soul.”

Maggie’s voice was calm to the point of cruelty. “It governed the purest Authority of ‘Aether’ in existence. That Authority was too vast. No single god could swallow it whole.”

“So instead of being monopolized by one god, it was dispersed throughout heaven and earth. It blended into the atmosphere, seeped into the soil, and flowed into the bloodlines of all living things.”

“That is precisely why modern humans possess the possibility of sensing Aether and stepping onto the path of the transcendent. Every breath of Aether you inhale is, in essence, part of the White Dragon King’s ‘corpse.’”

Logaris pushed up his glasses, a glimmer of realization passing through his eyes. “So this is the origin of transcendent power...”

Maggie gave a faint nod. Then her tone shifted, growing darker.

“But among all of them, only the Black Dragon King, Noxarum, was a complete anomaly.”

“What do you mean?” Sylvia asked at once.

“At the final moment of the निर्णative battle, the Black Dragon King vanished. It did not flee in a traceable way like the Silver Dragon King, nor was it forced into slumber like the Yellow Dragon King. It was as though it had been erased entirely from the causal laws of this world. It disappeared without a trace. No corpse, no seal, and no corresponding god capable of fully taking over its Authorities of ‘devouring’ and ‘ending.’”

Maggie looked at Logaris, her gaze seeming to pierce through his soul and point directly at the battle buried in his memory.

“If a church that worships corruption and death has appeared in the present age, and if it can successfully borrow that kind of power... then that means the Sun-Eater who vanished thousands of years ago may not be dead at all. In fact... it may be watching us from some hidden corner even now, waiting for the thieves to expose a flaw.”

Those words caused the air inside the tower to drop to freezing point.

A supreme Dragon King that had never been sealed, one that had lurked in hiding for thousands of years? That was enough to make one’s scalp crawl far more than a hell invasion.

The Grand Dukes of Hell still had to cross planes, and their strength would be diminished in the process. But this being... This was a true god fighting on its native ground, at full power.

“Well now...” Logaris took a deep breath and snapped his notebook shut with a crisp clap.

“This is exhilarating.”

Looking at the solemn expressions on their faces, Maggie drew the conversation back from its digression. Her expression turned indifferent once more.

“So this has nothing to do with justice or evil. It is merely a chaotic contest in which the ‘new order’ replaced the ‘old overlords,’ while the ‘old overlords’ refused to leave the stage quietly. For this world to continue functioning after the loss of the Dragon Kings, such a transition was necessary. But it also left behind countless messes.”

Logaris drew in another deep breath, and his gaze became profound. “I see. So the essence of faith-based apotheosis is the creation of gods, but the essence of divine authority is usurpation and partition. And now it seems those thieves can no longer keep the original owners suppressed... Tsk, tsk. If the believers ever learned these hidden truths, I wonder what interesting things would happen.”
