The Military Princess Won’t Fall in Love with a Magic Scientist
Chapter 237 : Chapter 237Chapter 237. Maggie’s Plan Back Then (Happy New Year!)
Maggie waved her hand, and the illusion shifted. No longer were there figures of the Dragon Kings, but instead a massive projected parchment scroll that seemed to exude the smell of sulfur.
“The gods are thieves, the dragons will retaliate, and if mortals wish to ascend the Divine Throne, they must find a vast source of energy great enough to rival the World Origin itself.” Maggie’s eyes turned feverish once more. “And so, I set my sights on Hell.”
“Back then, I used the promise of establishing a permanent passage as bait and signed a covenant with the Seven Sovereigns of Hell, exchanging it for the right to use a portion of Hell’s demonic power.”
At that point, a crafty and ferocious curve rose at the corner of Maggie’s mouth, revealing the true nature of the Mad King beneath it all. “But in truth, I engraved a reversal spellwork at the nodes of the planar passage. My plan was to use the Hell power granted by the contract as a lever, pry open the Mana Source of the entire Hell Plane, ignite my Divine Spark with it, and forge a divine seat of ‘Magic and Knowledge’ for humanity!”
“If I succeeded, I would devour their power in reverse, shut the gate, and become the one true god.”
“Unfortunately, the bunch in Hell were not fools either, especially your father, Astaroth.”
Maggie let out a sigh and pointed downward. “And so, you saw the result for yourself. The backlash of the Seven Sovereigns collided in the void with the world power I forcibly extracted. The original ‘path of ascension’ exploded and became what is now the Great Howling Rift. The immense energy impact tore open the world barrier and also frightened the World Will, causing it to completely seal off all passages to other worlds from then on.”
She spread her hands with an innocent expression. “So, in a certain sense, it was I who welded the gate shut, which is why that bargain-bin father of yours has no way of coming over to trouble you. You should be thanking me.”
“So that is the full truth.” Maggie opened her arms, seemingly trying to give her grand and insane plan a dignified conclusion.
“Although I failed to become a god, I still protected the world in a roundabout way for a thousand years, didn’t I?”
“Though I failed, this was undoubtedly the greatest attempt in human history—”
“The hell it was!”
An utterly ill-timed roar, thick with resentment, abruptly cut off Maggie’s self-satisfaction.
Roland, who had been standing silently against the wall with his arms folded, listening the whole time, finally snapped.
The founding emperor of Astrelia now stood there with his arms crossed, looking speechlessly at his old lover.
“Do you have any idea how miserable the second half of my life was because I had to clean up the colossal mess you made?”
With a blank expression, Roland complained, “You got to rest in peace, but I had to spend the rest of my life camped beside that rift with my army, shoving back the tens of thousands of abyssal monsters crawling out of your ‘great experimental achievement’ every single day.”
“That damned thing was a cesspit leading straight to Hell, Maggie. And I was the poor bastard who spent his whole life cleaning your toilet.”
“Cough...” Maggie’s profound and inscrutable expression instantly froze on her face. Her originally half-transparent spirit body even flushed faintly red with embarrassment. She glared at Roland with a touch of irritation. “That was a necessary sacrifice for the sake of truth!”
“Ah, yes, yes. All I had to do was lead troops and clean up the aftermath, while the great Lady Maggie, the one who started all this, was obviously thinking on a much higher level.” Roland mercilessly followed up with another stab.
Watching these two legendary figures from a thousand years ago bicker like an old married couple, the originally grim and terrifying atmosphere completely vanished.
Sylvia stood to the side with her mouth slightly open, her expression beginning to crack.
She looked at the speechless Maggie, then at the deeply aggrieved Roland, and it felt as though a bolt of lightning had flashed through her mind, violently linking together scattered clues.
Wait...
No way.
According to the vague records in Australia's royal history books, the founding emperor Rolandain had remained unmarried all his life, and his only heir had been left behind with a “friend who had shared life and death with him” before he ever ascended the throne.
For the past thousand years, the royal family had treated that as some sort of romantic anecdote, and it had even spawned countless versions of court romance dramas.
But now, seeing with her own eyes how frighteningly familiar these two old monsters were with each other—the tacit understanding that only came from having lived together for a very long time, from mutual disdain mixed with life-and-death reliance—
And combining that with all the layers of verification earlier that could only be opened by “the bloodline of the Astrelia royal family”...
No matter how slow Sylvia might have been, she finally realized it at this moment.
This legendary “Mad King,” Maggie, might actually be her direct great-great-grandmother!
For a moment, Sylvia’s expression became exceptionally colorful. The way she looked at Maggie shifted rapidly from reverence and caution into something far more complicated, as though her entire worldview were being reassembled.
This was... pretty sudden.
Still, why did her family seem to have so little magical talent?
The corner of Logaris’s mouth twitched violently. He had clearly realized this ethical connection as well, but he was a professional scholar, and gossip of this kind held no value for him whatsoever. He quickly adjusted himself, ignored Roland’s bitter complaints, and forcibly dragged the topic back onto the proper track.
“We can save the reminiscing for later. If you do not mind, I still have a few technical questions.”
Logaris calmly interjected, forcibly steering the conversation back on course. “Since we brought up the rift, do you know why the Beast Tide at the Great Howling Rift has suddenly intensified recently?”
At the mention of serious business, Maggie’s expression also turned grave again.
“I sensed that matter as well.”
Maggie floated in midair. “On the other side of the rift, there may be a Grand Duke of Hell fanning the flames. He is using that wound to slowly erode the laws of the mortal world. I do not know which one it is, but it is definitely not your father, who cares only about ascension.”
“Can it be repaired?” Sylvia suddenly cut in.
“It cannot.” Maggie answered with absolute certainty. “That is a missing piece in the world barrier, a fracture across dimensions. To stitch a wound like that back together, piling up magic power is completely meaningless. One must possess the Authority to interfere with the fundamental laws of space itself.”
She paused, her deep blue eyes sweeping across the two of them. “Throughout the entire river of history, only the Silver Dragon King, Specter, who wielded dominion over time, space, and dimensions, possessed that ability.”
“But just as I told you earlier, that crafty fellow fled into the cracks of the void thousands of years ago, where even the gods could not reach.”
“Unless you can drag that missing Dragon King back here and make him work as cheap labor, this wound will remain forever.”
Sylvia let out a sigh, and the hope in her eyes dimmed.
The Silver Dragon King?
That was the most mysterious existence in all myth, a fugitive whom even the gods could not catch. Where was she supposed to find him? This was no different from being handed a death sentence.
“How interesting.”
Logaris suddenly laughed.
“So in theory, it is possible. We are simply lacking an executor.”
He pushed up his glasses. There was not the slightest hint of despair in those heterochromatic eyes. Instead, they burned with an ambition so intense that even Maggie felt alarmed, as though what he had just heard was not a hopeless verdict, but the outline of a solution.
“If the Silver Dragon King could do it, then that proves the path of ‘repairing space’ itself truly exists. So what if I cannot find him? As long as I can analyze the essence of spatial laws and attain, or even surpass, his mastery in the domain of space, would I not become the new ‘Silver Dragon King’?”
A wildly arrogant smile curved onto Logaris’s lips. “Repair the world? That sounds far more challenging than teaching those idiots at the academy.”
Maggie stared at him blankly.
This lunatic.
What was he saying? He was trying to use a mortal body to replicate, even surpass, the Authority of an ancient Dragon King?
Even in the age of myth, no mortal had ever dared point at the vacant seat of a supreme Dragon King and say, “I can take his place.”
After a long while, she smiled in relief.
“You really are an even more arrogant bastard than I am. Perhaps Astaroth’s bloodline truly does carry some sort of recklessly sky-defying trait.”
