The Military Princess Won’t Fall in Love with a Magic Scientist
Chapter 243 : Chapter 243Chapter 243. Destroying the Evidence
Pfft.
An extremely muffled, soft sound rang out.
Carlisle Van Astrelia, this ambitious imperial heir of the kingdom, had, in that instant, an absolute vacuum black hole appear in the center of his chest.
His body, his armor, together with all his ambitions and that final trace of arrogance, were forcibly sucked into that point no larger than a fingernail, then crushed by terrifying spatial pressure into the most basic particles.
One second later.
The black hole dissipated.
All that remained on the spot was a storage ring that had lost its luster, falling alone onto the ground with a crisp ding.
Logaris stood where Carlisle had just vanished, several remnants of ash pinched between his fingers. Those were the only material traces left behind after the spatial collapse, probably the powder of that high-tier mithril armor after it had been crushed apart. He casually flicked his hand, and the ashes scattered into the void.
He turned to look at Sylvia. That deathly pale mask had no facial features at all, yet it radiated a chill that kept all living beings at a distance.
“I’ll leave the cleanup here to you.” Sylvia’s voice, filtered through the mask, sounded slightly distorted. “I’m going to bring the army over. The vacuum in the chain of command over fifty thousand troops won’t last long. Karlsas is an old general who has stayed by Father’s side for years. He will definitely notice something.”
Sylvia wasted no words. With Logaris’s assistance, she took a single step into the one-way teleportation array.
Blue light flashed, and her figure disappeared.
Logaris did not hurry to leave. He was obsessive, especially during a stage like “destroying the evidence.”
He raised his pale fingers. Gray, ghostly sparks danced at his fingertips as he softly chanted an obscure phrase in Ancient Elven toward the void.
“Spirit Realm Separation · Silence of the Dead.”
Bzzz—!
Invisible ripples spread outward from him like madness in every direction.
Those residues in the air invisible to the naked eye—Carlisle’s terror at the moment of death, Balton’s unwillingness, the shattered soul fragments of the thirty mages—were like snow meeting the blazing sun at that very moment.
They did not even have time to let out a scream before they were forcibly stripped away, shattered, and purified by that power.
The battlefield, which had originally been filled with the scent of blood and resentment, became spotless in an instant, like a disk that had been completely formatted.
After finishing all that, he turned his head slightly and glanced at the floating sphere of dark blue runic light that had been operating beside him the whole time.
That was the anti-divination spell that had long since been activated. Logaris carefully examined the path of the flowing runes. Only after confirming that the spell had remained completely stable throughout the entire process, without the slightest flaw, perfectly deceiving every prying eye that might have been turned this way, did he finally adjust his glasses in satisfaction.
Then he turned and stepped into that towering, bizarre structure, heading straight for the control core of the Tower of Inverted Truth.
He pressed his hand onto the obsidian-like crystal core, and his vast mana instantly took control of the laws of the entire subplane through the patterns running across the tower’s body.
“Planar Anchor Point · Severance.”
Along with his cold whisper, the entire inverted tower let out a deep rumble. Other than the new hidden passage Logaris had reconstructed after taking over authority, all the old teleportation nodes and spatial beacons shattered completely in an instant.
It was as though this subplane had been forcibly dragged by an invisible giant hand into the folds of the deeper void, completely hidden from the perception map of the Prime Material Plane.
Looking at the now completely sealed domain before him, the corners of Logaris’s lips curled upward.
“All right then, Your Highness the Second Prince. May you sleep forever in an eternal void where no one will ever know.”
The next second, as a ghostly light flickered, his figure vanished completely from where he stood.
...
Northern Territory, Winter City.
General Victor stood in the wind and snow like an ice sculpture. His soldiers had maintained intense combat readiness under freezing temperatures for three days already. The people of the Northern Territory could endure the cold, but this oppressive atmosphere was even harder to bear than the winter wind.
A burst of spatial fluctuation exploded with extreme abruptness inside the Duke’s Manor behind him.
Victor turned sharply, and before he could see clearly, a tall figure had already pushed open the door and stepped out.
Sylvia had not yet changed out of her black combat suit, and the chilling aura of slaughter around her was even colder than the wind and snow outside. As she walked, she casually tore off the Faceless Aspect mask from her face, revealing a face of absolute cold beauty.
“Your Highness?” Victor froze for a moment and instinctively wanted to ask something.
“Don’t ask.” Sylvia spoke at great speed, her voice carrying an unquestionable, iron-blooded authority. “Pass down the order. The entire army is to board the train!”
Victor’s whole body jolted. “Now? Where are we going? What is the reason?”
“The reason?”
Sylvia stopped walking and turned her head slightly. A cold light flashed through her silver-gray eyes.
“The reason is to prevent the southern Beast Tide from spreading and to protect every inch of the kingdom’s territory.” She paused, and the corner of her mouth twisted into an extremely mocking curve. “Also, prepare a eulogy. If nothing unexpected happens, it will be needed very soon.”
Victor looked at this young ruler, and a layer of cold sweat seeped inexplicably across his back. He said nothing more, slammed his heel together, gave a standard Northern Legion salute, and roared loudly enough to shatter the wind and snow:
“Yes! All troops, hear my command—board the train!!!”
Woooo—!!!
The shrill assembly horn instantly tore through the silence of Winter City, like the roar of a beast of war.
...
Not long afterward, at the other end of the fortress, the Second Prince’s residence.
The adjutant Eric paced anxiously back and forth through the corridor, his military boots making dull sounds on the carpet.
His Highness had vanished.
It sounded like a joke. Inside this heavily guarded fortress, a sixth-tier knight, thirty royal elite mages, and Balton, a sixth-tier guard famed for his defense, had simply vanished from the face of the earth.
The agreed return time had already passed by a full four hours.
Eric had used the Communication Crystal to call countless times. On the other end there was only deathly silence. There was no static from mana interference, no distress signal from an ambush—just simple, complete... nonexistence.
“Still no contact?”
An aged yet imposing voice came from behind him.
Eric jumped in fright, hastily turned around to salute, and felt cold sweat soak through his back.
The old general Karlsas wore a heavy military overcoat, and his expression was so gloomy it looked as though water might drip from it.
Although he did not belong to the Second Prince’s faction, he was the nominal deputy commander of this fortress and the supervising general sent by the king. If something had happened to the prince under his watch, he would not escape unscathed either.
“N-no.” Eric’s voice trembled. “Everything in the bedchamber is normal. Even that document about logistical deployment is still spread open on the desk.”
Karlsas said nothing. He merely strode into the bedchamber.
The room was so tidy that it felt excessive.
There were no traces of a struggle, no residual magical fluctuations, and even the air still carried the scent of the expensive incense the prince loved to use.
Everything looked perfectly normal.
So normal that it made one’s skin crawl.
“Have you checked the access records?” Karlsas asked.
“I did! Every city gate, every teleportation array, even the sewer grates—there isn’t a single record of anything being opened.” Eric was nearly in tears.
Carlisle had gone to the Mad King’s legacy site through a secret passage. Other than the accompanying personnel, no one else knew his whereabouts.
