It ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍was a reflexive response to an unknown threat, like wild dogs baring their teeth when a lion entered their territory. They were afraid, but they could not help themselves.

But ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍the moment they saw those rows of black Thunder Mark I rifle barrels, and the armor on the Northern Territory soldiers shimmering with flowing mana-light, every movement froze.

No ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍one actually pulled the trigger.

They ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍looked at one another, their hands trembling slightly as they gripped their weapons. The same unspoken understanding passed through their eyes: they were paid only fifty Silver Stag Coins a month, so what exactly were they supposed to risk their lives for?

Just look at the other side’s equipment, then look at the fire pokers in their own hands...

Was this even an army from the same era? This was like trying to stab a dragon in the backside with a toothpick!

And besides...

An extremely tempting and perfectly reasonable thought began growing wildly in every heart like weeds: these absurdly well-equipped people should... probably... maybe... really be reinforcements, right?

Once that thought appeared, it spread like wildfire and became the last straw everyone clung to. As long as the other side was friendly, then backing down now was not cowardice, but “taking the bigger picture into account.”

“Move... everyone move aside...”

One slippery old veteran was the first to lower his gun barrel, his body honestly shrinking half a step backward.

That one retreat was like knocking over the first domino.

The guards who had been blocking the road split apart like a wave cleaved in two, retreating rapidly and awkwardly to the walls, allowing this steel torrent to drive straight through.

The fully armed Northern Territory soldiers poured out like a tide. The instant they stepped onto the platform, they snapped to attention in perfect unison. Several commanders quickly strode out of formation and headed straight toward the figure who had clearly been waiting for some time in the shadows of the platform, then saluted sharply.

“Reporting, sir! The vanguard has assembled,” the leading commander reported loudly. “Because the number of magitech train lines is limited and transport capacity is constrained, there are still two more waves of troops entering in sequence. All forces are expected to arrive within half an hour.”

Logaris stood beneath the dim yellow magitech lamps. He had obviously been there for a while already. He still wore that long black robe, the gold-thread embroidery at the collar swaying slightly in the cold wind. His calm expression stood in sharp contrast to the panic of the fortress guards around him.

After hearing the report, he glanced toward the first defensive line in the distance, where flames were soaring into the sky, and began issuing orders at once in a rapid voice.

“Understood. First Regiment and Second Regiment of the vanguard, bring all heavy firepower and head to the front immediately. Find Akash and have him assign you positions for fire support. The troops arriving afterward will remain on standby as reserves.”

“Yes, sir!”

The commanders accepted their orders, spun around, and led the main force toward the war-torn front line like arrows loosed from the string.

The crowded platform instantly became much emptier. Logaris turned and looked toward the towering Council Chamber at the heart of the fortress, a cold arc curling at the corner of his mouth.

“As for us...” He looked toward the special-purpose carriages that had just been opened behind him. “We’ll go to the Council Chamber first.”

What answered him was the heavy thud of metal striking the ground.

Three special operations squads stepped out from the depths of the carriages and silently gathered behind Logaris.

What these people wore was not the ordinary standard second-generation armor, but three-meter-tall fourth-generation bodyguard-type Magitech Armor. Ferocious snow-wolf crests were painted across their thick shoulder plates, while the mana thrusters on their backs sprayed streams of faint blue particles.

Logaris stepped forward, the hem of his black robe snapping violently in the wind.

Behind him, more than a dozen steel giants followed in silence.

That suffocating pressure made all the fortress personnel along the way flatten themselves against the walls, not daring to breathe too loudly for fear these monsters might casually crush them to death.

...

At this moment, inside the fortress Council Chamber.

The air here was muddy and stiflingly hot. The uproar nearly lifted the roof, forming a sharp and mocking contrast with the killing intent outside.

“His Highness still hasn’t come out of seclusion, so who gave you the guts to mobilize those elite divisions?” The Chief Logistics Officer’s bloated body blocked the tactical map, spittle flying everywhere. “Without the seal, nobody is touching a single crystal in my warehouse!”

“But the front line is about to collapse! General Karlsas is fighting with his life on the line!” one garrison officer shouted, sweating profusely.

“That still won’t do! If they die, they die! That’s their fate!”

The fat director slapped the table, the flesh on his belly wobbling wildly, his eyes full of the unique arrogance and cold-bloodedness of a bureaucrat. “Rules are rules! Without proper procedure, even if the King of Heaven himself came, he wouldn’t get a single screw out of me!”

“You—!”

Boom—!!!

A tremendous blast, enough to shatter eardrums, brutally cut off all argument.

The thick double doors that symbolized the authority of Allied Command Headquarters, made from century-old redwood, were smashed apart along with the entire doorframe by a force so savage it bordered on absurd.

Wood splinters exploded through the air like shrapnel.

Out of the dust, several three-meter-tall steel giants ducked their heads and entered the Council Chamber.

Frost still clung to their pitch-black alloy shells. Their massive crystal visors flashed with crimson light. The Magiburst Guns in their hands glowed with blue radiance, like the gaze of death itself.

The noisy Council Chamber fell into dead silence at once.

The officers who had still been arguing a moment ago now looked like ducks with their throats seized, staring in terror at those steel monsters that nearly reached the ceiling. Their legs turned weak, and they forgot even to retreat.

Logaris stepped into the room, the sound of his leather shoes crunching across the broken wood crisp and merciless.

He did not look at the fortress bureaucrats shrinking in the corners and trembling. He did not even spare half a glance for the officers who tried to step forward.

He walked straight to the table that symbolized supreme command, and his cold gaze finally settled on that fat man, who was still frozen in shock.

“Just now... who was the one talking about rules?”

Logaris’s voice was not loud, yet it carried an undeniable pressure.

“Y-You... Logaris! What gives you the right to barge into Allied Command Headquarters?” The Chief Logistics Officer froze for a moment, then shouted in panic, “His Highness is in seclusion right now! It’s not your place, as an outsider, to speak here!”

Logaris did not waste words.

He raised his right hand and gently pressed his index finger downward.

Boom!

A terrifying gravity field descended in an instant. The man did not even manage to scream. He was slammed flat against the floor like a lump of rotten meat. The solid wooden office desk shattered into splinters under the crushing weight, and blood mixed with wood shards sprayed everywhere.

Amid the sickening sound of bones breaking, Logaris expressionlessly stepped over that puddle of ruined flesh and sat down grandly in the main seat that symbolized supreme command.

His gaze swept across every face present like a blade.

“His Highness Carlisle is temporarily unable to perform his duties due to ‘ill health.’”

Resting his chin on his interlaced fingers, Logaris spoke in a calm voice:

“From this moment on, Scream Fortress is under my command.”
