The Mirror Master

Chapter 32: Nine Netherworld

After Chen Tieshan and the others left, Lu Bai closed the door, returned to his room, and sat down, recalling the scene of his struggle with the Ghostly Creature that night.

After activating the Ancient Mirror a few times, he had gradually figured out a pattern.

The strength with which the Ancient Mirror devoured evil spirits seemed to be related to the strength of his Blood Qi.

The stronger his Blood Qi, the greater the Ancient Mirror’s devouring power.

The Ghostly Creature from tonight was obviously much stronger than any of the other evil spirits or Ghost Souls he had encountered before!

If he could have devoured it, he would have had a chance to repair the *Mountain Monarch Bone Forging Technique* to the level of an Ultimate Skill!

A shame...

’Cultivation, Cultivation!’

’Cultivation is the foundation of everything!’

If he could step into the Inner Strength Realm and cultivate his internal organs, his Blood Qi would naturally strengthen, allowing him to better wield the power of the Ancient Mirror.

’I’ve consumed a lot of my Blood Qi tonight. I’ll rest tomorrow, sell the apothecary, and then head to Bluestone County.’

’I need to find a higher-tier Inner Power Heart Method there as soon as possible.’

’Although I have an Ultimate Skill, the *Bone Supreme Profound Scripture*, this Cultivation Technique is a bit strange.’

’When I first obtained the Ancient Mirror, this Ultimate Skill was already inside it. From it derived the Secret Technique known as the Eye of Illusion, but the rest of its contents were invisible, let alone comprehensible.’

At this thought, an idea struck Lu Bai, and he took the withered, yellow page from within his robes.

Lu Bai held the yellow paper to his chest and slightly stimulated the Ancient Mirror with his Blood Qi.

A light flashed across the mirror’s surface, which then rippled faintly.

In the Cultivation Techniques section, a new line of text appeared.

[Nine Netherworld·Yellow (Uncomprehended) (Repairable)]

"Nine Netherworld..."

Lu Bai murmured to himself, casually placing the yellow page on the bedside.

The Black Dog, which had been lying in its spot, suddenly twitched its ears. It rose, padded over to the bedside, and stared at the yellow page with its jet-black eyes.

Lu Bai’s attention was fixed on the Ancient Mirror; he didn’t notice the Black Dog’s abnormality.

’This Cultivation Technique is repairable, which means it’s at least Profound Tier.’

Lu Bai looked at the three clusters of Soul Light in the corner of the mirror’s surface. ’I’ll repair it first,’ he thought, ’and see what tier this Cultivation Technique is.’

He had obtained three clusters of Soul Light from his nocturnal visit to the Zhou Family.

Lu Bai directed one of the Soul Light clusters toward the line of text for [Nine Netherworld] and silently commanded, ’Repair!’

The Soul Light landed on the text and quickly merged into it.

The mirror’s surface rippled, and the text gradually blurred.

A moment later, it reappeared.

[Nine Netherworld·Profound (Uncomprehended) (Repairable)]

Seeing this line of text, Lu Bai rejoiced inwardly.

’This means *Nine Netherworld* is at least Earth Tier!’

Without hesitation, Lu Bai directed the second Soul Light cluster to merge with it.

The mirror’s surface rippled once more, and after blurring, the text reappeared.

[Nine Netherworld·Earth (Uncomprehended) (Repairable)]

Lu Bai’s eyes lit up.

’At least a Celestial Tier Technique!’

This was a pleasant surprise, on top of the three Soul Light clusters.

Only one last Soul Light cluster remained in the Ancient Mirror.

Lu Bai pondered for a moment before directing the final Soul Light cluster to merge as well. This time, however, the command he gave in his mind was not ’Repair,’ but ’Comprehend.’

’As long as I have Soul Light, I can repair it to the Celestial Tier anytime.’

’But right now, the most important thing is to increase my strength!’

’I’ll comprehend it first.’

Lu Bai silently commanded, ’Comprehend!’

In an instant, a torrent of text and information about *Nine Netherworld*, including two Secret Techniques, flooded into his mind.

*Ghost Commanding Order* and *Soul Suppressing Order*.

However, Lu Bai could only comprehend one of the Secret Techniques: the *Ghost Commanding Order*.

According to this Secret Technique, one could use their own Blood Qi as a medium to write an order, binding wandering ghosts and forcing them into absolute submission, unable to resist or betray.

Betrayers would suffer the torment of Eternal Hell, forever denied reincarnation!

Lu Bai mulled it over for a moment. ’This Secret Technique... seems a bit useless,’ he thought.

According to the *Ghost Commanding Order*, one first had to subdue a Ghostly Creature before binding it with the Secret Technique’s order.

But for the current Lu Bai, his methods for dealing with Ghostly Creatures and evil spirits were limited. Forget subduing them; he would be doing well just to injure one.

His only trump card was activating the Ancient Mirror.

But once the Ancient Mirror was activated, either its suction was insufficient and the Ghostly Creature would escape...

...or the Ghostly Creature would be devoured by the Ancient Mirror and turned into Soul Light.

Even if he cultivated some ghost-catching and evil-warding Magic Techniques in the future, there would be no need to bind them; he could just let the Ancient Mirror devour them.

The other technique, *Soul Suppressing Order*, on the other hand, looked very promising.

According to the *Soul Suppressing Order*, by activating the Evil Qi in one’s body and condensing it into a Soul Suppressing Order, one could seal the Divine Techniques and Spells of Ghostly Creatures and evil spirits!

Now *this* was a true Magic Technique for smiting evil and suppressing ghosts.

The Ghostly Creature kept by Madam Zhou knew how to use an extremely potent, eerie green flame.

Despite being a flame, it was incredibly frigid and sinister!

And yet, Lu Bai couldn’t comprehend this Secret Technique, the *Soul Suppressing Order*.

’Does one cluster of Soul Light only allow for comprehending a single Secret Technique?’

Lu Bai pondered, ’Condensing the Soul Suppressing Order requires Evil Qi in the body... but where does that stuff come from?’

There was no Soul Light left in the Ancient Mirror. He would have to try again later.

Lu Bai looked at the Ancient Mirror again.

[Mirror Master: Lu Bai]

[Realm: Third Level of the Root Bone Stage—Bone Forging (Iron Bone)]

[Cultivation Technique: Bone Supreme Profound Scripture·Ultimate

Mountain Monarch Bone Forging Technique - Heaven (Repairable)

Nine Netherworld·Earth (Repairable)]

[Martial Technique: Five-Step Fist: Yellow (Minor Success)

Eight Sword Skills: Yellow (Perfection)]

[Secret Technique: Eye of Illusion; Ghost Commanding Order]

Not much had changed, other than the addition of the *Ghost Commanding Order*.

Meanwhile, the *Soul Suppressing Order* hadn’t even appeared on the mirror’s surface, not even with an "(Uncomprehended)" status.

’Do I have to generate Evil Qi in my body to activate this Secret Technique?’

Lu Bai made a casual guess before withdrawing his consciousness from the Ancient Mirror.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t an Inner Power Heart Method, so it wouldn’t do much to raise his Cultivation.

’I should probably burn this thing.’

Lu Bai thought, looking at the yellow page beside him.

After all, it belonged to Madam Zhou, and the methods that demoness excelled at were far too bizarre.

Keeping something of hers was asking for hidden trouble.

The Ancient Mirror had already manifested *Nine Netherworld*, so the yellow page was useless to him now.

Just then, Lu Bai noticed the Black Dog sitting by the bed, staring intently at the yellow page.

It was completely focused.

"Ah Mo, what are you looking at?"

Lu Bai chuckled. "Can you read?"

He had only asked casually, mostly to tease the Black Dog.

But to his surprise, the Black Dog nodded.

Although the nod was slight and barely perceptible, Lu Bai still caught it.

"Huh?"

Lu Bai’s face filled with astonishment. He pointed at the yellow page and asked in disbelief, "Ah Mo, you can recognize the characters on this?"

Sure enough, the Black Dog nodded again.

Ah Mo had been with him for some time and was certainly very bright.

But Lu Bai had never imagined that the Black Dog could actually read!

A cultured canine, no less.

"Not bad, not bad at all."

Lu Bai stroked the Black Dog’s head, praising it for a bit.

It was just a brief interlude, and he didn’t dwell on it. He was about to pick up the yellow page and find his flint and steel to burn it.

But the Black Dog suddenly put a paw out, pressing it down on the yellow page.

Lu Bai froze.

As if he had realized something, he crouched down, looked at the Black Dog with a serious expression, and asked earnestly, "You can understand what’s written on it?"

The Black Dog nodded again.

"What in the world are you?"

Lu Bai’s curiosity about the Black Dog grew even stronger.

Over the past while, he had observed Ah Mo and found no obvious differences between him and the other black dogs in town.

Creatures like black dogs naturally suppressed evil spirits.

This wasn’t unique to Ah Mo; the other black dogs in town could do it too.

Ah Mo had shown no signs of being a divine beast or a Demon Beast, merely that he was a bit brighter than other black dogs.

Only now had Ah Mo revealed a hint of something extraordinary.

The gap between recognizing characters and understanding their meaning was immense!

Lu Bai said, "Keeping this might be dangerous. I’ll burn it first. Afterwards, I’ll write out the complete Secret Technique for you."

Hearing this, the Black Dog lifted its paw. It looked up at Lu Bai, its tail wagging gently, a trace of anticipation showing in its jet-black eyes.

The Black Dog didn’t even get this excited for food.
