The Mirror Master

Chapter 49: Great Slaughter

Zhao Wuji had already reached Li Yue’er and untied the sash at his waist, revealing a chest covered in thick black hair. However, he noticed the strange expressions on his bandits’ faces and couldn’t help but frown.

"Shit, a single clap of thunder scared you all this badly?"

Zhao Wuji swore, then reached out again to rip off Li Yue’er’s pants.

"Boss, someone’s here!"

The woman in plain clothes said suddenly, her expression grave.

"Hm?"

Zhao Wuji’s expression changed as he suddenly felt a vicious gust of wind from behind.

Without a second thought, he dove and rolled to the side.

A cold glint of light scraped past his body, missing him by a hair’s breadth!

It was even more dangerous than the Flying Sword from before!

"Shit!"

Goosebumps erupted on Zhao Wuji’s skin, his scalp tingling with fear. After rolling aside, he snatched up the Thick-Backed Saber he had dropped and began to curse.

But he had only gotten half a curse out when he looked up and saw the newcomer. His heart seized, and he swallowed the rest of his words.

’This man...’

Zhao Wuji’s eyelids twitched violently as he stared at the tall, Demon God-like figure in the distance. ’Is that even human?’ he thought.

When the group stormed the ruined temple, Black Dog had slipped away.

But the torrential rain had washed away the scent.

Black Dog searched for quite a while before finding Lu Bai. It grabbed his pant leg, trying to pull him back the way it came.

Lu Bai realized something was wrong at the ruined temple and immediately rushed back.

He arrived to find a group of men surrounding Xiaodie, one of them about to lay hands on Li Yue’er.

Lu Bai lunged forward, slashing his sword horizontally.

The man was agile, dodging the blow by a razor-thin margin.

Lu Bai’s assault was relentless. He twisted his blade and slashed at a nearby bandit!

SPLURT!

Three heads flew into the air as blood sprayed from their necks.

Such was the power of his strike and the ferocity of his Sword Stance that a single slash had claimed three heads!

"Aargh!"

The bandits finally reacted, crying out as they drew their weapons.

Wielding the Cyan Cloud Sword, Lu Bai charged straight into the crowd, unleashing the full might of the Eight Sword Skills.

Thrusting, cleaving, dotting, intercepting, parrying, slashing, lifting, and wiping.

They were the most basic of Sword Moves, but in Lu Bai’s hands, they flowed like water. His execution was smooth, the transitions between moves seamless and without a hint of hesitation.

Every strike wounded an enemy!

Lu Bai was a full head taller than any of the bandits, a true tiger let loose in a flock of sheep. With the Cyan Cloud Sword in hand, he carved a path of destruction.

Blood splattered across the ruined temple amidst ceaseless, agonizing screams.

A group of Root Bone Stage Martial Artists couldn’t withstand a single exchange against his blade!

Severed limbs, slick with blood, flew through the air.

Xiaodie and Li Yue’er were both stunned into silence. Tear tracks still stained their faces, and they stared wide-eyed, their mouths agape.

Xiaodie had traveled the Jianghu with Luo Qing and fought before, but most of her duels were sparring matches that ended as soon as a winner was clear. She had never witnessed such a bloodbath.

As a disciple of Danding Temple, Li Yue’er had spent her time training on the mountain and had never seen anything like this.

’To think such a fierce and heroic warrior exists in this world,’ Li Yue’er thought. ’With an aura like his... even all of my brothers combined would be no match for him!’

Xiaodie’s Heart and Spirit surged as she watched.

’It’s just basic Swordsmanship, but in his hands, it holds such tremendous power.’

’How can this hero be so strong?’ Xiaodie mused. ’The Second Young Master was born with Divine Power and has an amazing physique, but even he is probably no match for this man.’

The light in the ruined temple was dim. Combined with Lu Bai’s scars, disheveled hair, and the fact that his entire frame seemed to have swelled a size larger, neither Li Yue’er nor Xiaodie recognized him at first.

In just a few moments, Lu Bai had taken down all dozen-odd bandits.

Those who weren’t dead were grievously wounded, lying on the ground incapacitated.

Zhao Wuji had been about to charge forward and join his men.

But in the blink of an eye, he saw all his subordinates fall—either dead or wounded.

His heart went cold with terror. How could he possibly dare to fight Lu Bai?

With his mind racing, Zhao Wuji gripped his Thick-Backed Saber and bolted for the door, trying to escape.

Lu Bai caught the movement in his peripheral vision. With a cold snort, he closed the distance in a few quick strides.

Having mastered the Ultimate Skill, *White Tiger Stance*, and undergone a complete metamorphosis through Muscle and Marrow Strengthening, the power within Lu Bai’s body had skyrocketed.

Even without any formal Body Technique, a single push off the ground sent him leaping twenty to thirty feet forward!

"That man is treacherous and cunning! Hero, watch out for a lime powder Hidden Weapon!"

Li Yue’er shouted a warning.

Her words had barely faded when Zhao Wuji, seeing no escape, spun around and threw a handful of lime powder, just as she’d warned.

Lu Bai sidestepped the cloud of powder and thrust his sword forward.

"HRAAAGH!"

Zhao Wuji roared, raising his Thick-Backed Saber and unleashing his Inner Strength to slash at the side of the incoming blade.

CLANG!

Saber and sword met, sending sparks flying.

Zhao Wuji felt a heaven-shattering force erupt from the other man’s blade.

He couldn’t even hold onto his Thick-Backed Saber.

The webbing between his thumb and forefinger tore, a sharp pain shot through his hand, and the Thick-Backed Saber flew from his grasp!

"Hiss!"

Zhao Wuji was aghast.

He had already stepped into the Inner Strength Realm and opened two apertures, making him a true Inner Martial Artist.

Yet against this man, he couldn’t even hold his saber!

Before the thought could even finish, a glint of cold light before his eyes rapidly expanded, filling his vision.

SQUELCH!

The Cyan Cloud Sword pierced straight through.

The blade ran straight through Zhao Wuji’s forehead.

The tip of the sword, stained with blood and brain matter, protruded from the back of Zhao Wuji’s skull.

Zhao Wuji died on the spot!

Lu Bai kicked Zhao Wuji’s corpse aside, withdrew his sword, and walked toward Xiaodie and Li Yue’er.

Aside from the few bandits screaming and groaning on the ground, the woman in plain clothes was still there.

"G-Good sir, thank you for your righteous help."

The woman in plain clothes swallowed hard, forcing herself to remain calm. She cupped her fists from a distance and said, "If you hadn’t killed this wicked man, sir, I fear he would have continued to force me to commit countless evil deeds."

"Hero, don’t listen to her lies!"

Li Yue’er quickly cried out.

The woman’s eyes reddened. "I’m a victim, too," she said. "My parents and sisters fell into that villain’s hands. I had no choice but to obey him and do things against my will."

"But you must believe me, I’ve never killed anyone."

Expressionless, Lu Bai walked over to the few bandits who were still breathing. One by one, he ran them through with his sword, killing them all.

Without their screams, the ruined temple suddenly grew much quieter.

Sweat beaded on the woman’s forehead. The surrounding silence felt terrifying.

Once he saw there were no survivors, Lu Bai turned and walked toward the woman in plain clothes.

’This man is ruthless. My words don’t affect him at all!’

The woman was terrified.

She couldn’t risk it.

In an instant, the woman once again pulled Li Yue’er in front of her as a shield. She pressed her Willow Leaf Saber to Li Yue’er’s throat and snarled, "Let me live, and I won’t kill her!"

Lu Bai acted as if he hadn’t heard, his pace unwavering.

The distance between them shrank.

"Take one more step and I’ll kill her! If I’m going to die, I’m taking her with me!"

The woman shrieked, the blade of her saber nicking Li Yue’er’s skin and drawing a thin line of blood.

At this distance, Li Yue’er and Xiaodie finally got a clear look at the man.

"Young Master Lu?"

Xiaodie’s expression was dazed. She thought she must be delirious from her fever.

’It can’t be.’

’I must have fainted. I have to be dreaming.’

Xiaodie shook her head.

"Young—Young Master Lu?"

Li Yue’er’s eyes went wide. For a moment, she completely forgot that her life was hanging by a thread.

She couldn’t even feel the stinging pain at her throat anymore.
