Luo Family.
The council hall.
Luo Qing hurried over. A few people were already seated in the main hall.
The Patriarch, Luo Tianxiong, sat in the center. His hair was streaked with white, and he was over seventy years old.
Although he was an Innate Martial Artist, at his age, his Blood Qi was gradually declining. He had already stepped down for many years, leaving the Luo Family’s affairs to be managed by his eldest son, Luo Hongyuan.
Due to the recent crisis the Luo Family was facing, a matter concerning the fate of the entire clan, Luo Tianxiong had no choice but to come forward once more to take charge.
His second son, Luo Yunxuan, and his third son, Luo Mingzhao, were responsible for different matters.
Xiaodie bustled about inside, pouring tea and water.
After several days of recuperation, the chill in her body had been dispelled. Her complexion had become much rosier, and she seemed more energetic, having regained a good deal of her vitality.
Luo Qing sat down behind Luo Mingzhao and looked at Xiaodie with a questioning gaze.
Once Xiaodie finished her tasks, she came to stand behind Luo Qing and whispered, "Miss, I’m fine now. I really couldn’t stay put, so I came out to do some work."
"Qing’er, what were you busy with this morning? I didn’t see you at all."
Luo Tianxiong smiled, not bothering to hide his affection for his granddaughter.
Among the younger generation, Luo Qing possessed the highest talent for the Martial Dao.
The other youths either lacked talent in the Martial Dao or were unwilling to endure hardship, preferring a life of comfort and ease.
They had long lost the sharp edge of his generation. Each generation was worse than the last.
It was just a pity that Luo Qing was a girl, and would eventually have to marry out of the family.
Luo Qing said, "Grandfather, I was taking a friend to enroll at Bluestone Academy, which took a while."
"That would be Lu Yun’s brother, I presume."
Luo Hongyuan frowned slightly and said in a grave tone, "Qing’er, it’s not that I, your uncle, want to criticize you, but Lu Yun is already dead. You have no connection to the Lu Family now. This constant entanglement is not good for your reputation."
Luo Qing’s expression remained blank.
"Alright, let’s get to business."
Luo Tianxiong cut in. "Have the families of those seven miners been placated?"
"Three of the families are still refusing to yield."
Luo Mingzhao shook his head slightly. "Qing’er has been investigating this matter recently. The people from the Sun Family have been instigating these three families from behind the scenes.
"Moreover, Qing’er suspects that the collapse of our mine was orchestrated by the Sun Family!"
"Is there any proof?"
Luo Tianxiong asked.
Luo Mingzhao shook his head.
Luo Yunxuan said, "Father, it’s certainly possible. Otherwise, how could it be such a coincidence? The mine collapsed right after we discovered the Tier Two Profound Iron Ore.
"The Sun Family even came to our door, wanting to jointly excavate that Profound Iron Ore mine with us."
"If we can properly utilize this Tier Two Profound Iron Ore mine, we might be able to expand our business all the way to Jingzhou City."
Luo Hongyuan said, "But as it stands, our Luo Family has to hand over sixty percent of the ore to the County Government Office. Of the remaining forty percent, if we were to jointly excavate with the Sun Family, we’d only get twenty percent. The profit would be too small, making it difficult to establish a foothold in Jingzhou City.
"Father, whether we should negotiate with the Sun Family... you’ll have to be the one to decide."
The hall fell into silence.
Luo Tianxiong’s face was grim, his brow tightly furrowed. The pair of Iron Galls he was playing with in his hand rotated silently.
This decision would likely determine the future rise or fall of the Luo Family.
"Father, Father, this is bad!"
Just then, a cry came from the doorway.
Luo Hongyuan looked at his son running in from outside and scolded with a frown, "Xiaoan, you should be cultivating at Bluestone Academy. What are you doing running back here in such a panic?"
"Grandfather, Second Uncle, Third Uncle..."
Luo An quickly greeted them, then said, "Luo Ben got into a fight with Sun Jifang! That Sun Jifang used a dirty trick, and Luo Ben got the worst of it."
"Didn’t I tell you all not to get into conflicts with the Sun Family recently? What happened?"
Luo Hongyuan’s frown deepened, and he glanced at Luo Mingzhao.
Luo An said, "It was Sun Jifang who started it. The things he said about Sister Qingqing were really nasty. Luo Ben couldn’t stand it anymore, so he made a move. Brother Cheng and I didn’t do anything. It was, it was..."
At this point, Luo An glanced in Luo Qing’s direction before continuing, "It was that Lu Bai who stepped in. He knocked Sun Jifang out with a single slap."
"And then?"
Luo Hongyuan pressed, "There are many Sun Family disciples at Bluestone Academy. You think the others would just let him go?"
Luo An nodded. "Yeah, then six Sun Family disciples immediately surrounded him..."
Hearing this, Luo Qing’s face darkened. She stood up directly, grabbed her Cyan Cloud Sword, and was about to charge to Bluestone Academy.
Seeing Luo Qing’s anxiety, Xiaodie quickly whispered, "Miss, don’t worry. Those Sun Family disciples were just asking for trouble. Young Master Lu isn’t afraid of them at all.
"I was just worried that Young Master Lu wouldn’t know when to hold back and would get into legal trouble."
Luo Qing frowned.
Before she could figure out what Xiaodie meant, Luo An had already finished recounting the scene at Bluestone Academy.
Forget Luo Hongyuan and the others; even Luo Tianxiong was completely astonished, unable to process it for a moment.
"One punch per fellow disciple? And he even beat up two Inner Sect Disciples from the Middle School?"
"He smashed someone with an eight-hundred-jin stone lock?"
"With one hand!"
"One person took down a whole group from the Sun Family?"
Luo Qing relaxed and slowly sat back down. "What happened after?" she asked.
Luo An said, "Later, the Criminal Tutor arrived. He was clearly biased towards the Sun Family, blew the matter out of proportion, and had Lu Bai expelled. That’s when I rushed back."
Luo Hongyuan shook his head. "This Lu Bai is too reckless. The opportunity to cultivate at Bluestone Academy is so rare, and Qing’er worked hard to get it for him, yet he just threw it all away."
Luo Tianxiong said slowly, "I, on the other hand, think this boy is quite good."
"I agree."
Luo Mingzhao said, "Xiaoben caused this incident, and Lu Bai was also acting to save him."
"Not necessarily."
Luo Tianxiong glanced at Luo Qing. "A few days ago, Qing’er went to Liuxi Town to bring his mother over, and she also stood up for him, cutting off the arm of a Zhou Family Nursing Home.
"This boy values relationships and loyalty. He was willing to risk everything, even expulsion, to stand up for Qing’er."
Luo Qing lowered her head slightly, avoiding Luo Tianxiong’s gaze.
Luo Yunxuan said, "He just doesn’t know how to hold back..."
Luo Tianxiong said with regret, "It’s a pity. Such a promising seedling can no longer cultivate at Bluestone Academy."
Just then, another set of footsteps sounded from outside the hall.
The two leading them were none other than the brothers Luo Ben and Luo Xiao.
Even Luo Cheng and the other clan members were merely trailing behind them.
Luo Xiao was still somewhat reserved.
Luo Ben, however, held his head high and chest out, his chin up as he strode forward with great airs, looking as smug as a general returning victorious from battle.
Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought he was the one who had beaten someone up.
"Luo Ben, you’d better tone it down!"
Seeing his son’s behavior, Luo Mingzhao couldn’t help but scold him.
Not seeing Lu Bai, Luo Qing couldn’t help but frown. "Where’s Xiaolu? Wasn’t he expelled by Xing Ying? Why didn’t you bring him back with you?"
"Expelled?"
Luo Ben snorted. "Xing Ying is a nobody! Who is he to expel my Brother Xiaolu? Even the great Dean Feng had to personally ask him to stay, letting my Brother Xiaolu cultivate at the academy. And he can even skip a grade and go directly to the Middle School to cultivate!"
Everyone in the hall listened with faces full of doubt.
Lu Bai had caused such a huge commotion at Bluestone Academy and severely injured his fellow disciples, yet not only was he not punished, but the dean himself had come out to ask him to stay?
"Xiaoben, stop talking nonsense!"
Luo Mingzhao frowned and rebuked him.
Luo Ben said defiantly, "Father, I’m not lying! If you don’t believe me, ask them!"
