The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 195 - 112: Blake City

The dungeon for holding enemies was located on the third sublevel.

Though it was called a dungeon, its depth was nothing compared to the Underground City.

When Sean followed Gomez out of the dungeon and walked onto the city wall, he could overlook the city in its entirety.

The dome was a massive Magic Light Curtain, resembling a blue sky. In its center hung a golden sphere of light, simulating the sun.

And beneath this artificial sky were rows of grand, ancient buildings—castles, churches, and even a Holy Sanctuary. Everything felt exceptionally familiar to Sean.

The liveliness of this Underground City far surpassed that of any town Sean had ever visited. Its prosperity and clamor were plain to see, with numerous Wizards flying through the air—some on brooms, some pedaling bicycles, and others in flying carriages. It was exactly like a magic castle from the movies, a world completely separate from the isolated outside.

From Sean’s understanding, this was likely a gathering place for Wizards, just like Alola Town. But without a doubt, it felt more like a Wizard’s domain than Alola Town and was also much larger. Magic, which was forbidden to be used freely in the outside world, was commonplace here. Gomez was right; as one of the Holy Temple Remnants, there was no place more suitable for him to live.

"Welcome to Blake City, Mr. Sean," Gomez said with a smile.

"Blake City?" Sean paused, looking at Gomez.

Gomez smiled and explained, "See that tallest palace in the city?"

"That is the Hall of Truth."

"Everything here was built in the image of Kovri. But instead of calling it ’Kovri,’ we believe it should bear Mr. Blake’s name. Without Mr. Blake, there would have been no Kovri, let alone us. That is why we call it Blake City."

It was a memorial, and a pledge of loyalty.

Sean had a sudden realization. ’So that’s why. No wonder it felt so familiar.’

But familiar as it was, he was still amazed by the methods of Gomez and his people.

Sean wasn’t surprised that Gomez was from the Holy Sanctuary.

After all, his own home was right above them. The only people who would come here were either Church Court agents on a sting operation, this group of "Heretics" left over from the Era of Polymath, or "Tomb Raiders." But an ordinary "Tomb Raider" wouldn’t dare steal from Carl Black; that would mean offending two major powers at once.

Sean was also not surprised that there was a hidden base underground.

He had considered this possibility when he was locked in the dungeon. ’Where there are cells, there’s an organization. Otherwise, who would be watching me?’

The only thing Sean hadn’t expected was how massive this base actually was.

He had no memory of ever renovating his own basement, which meant this vast space was likely built by the people of the Holy Sanctuary themselves after he had "died."

One had to understand that building a city from scratch, even on the surface, would take over a decade, or even several. To do so underground, where conditions were far from ideal in every aspect, was an unimaginably massive undertaking.

And all the while, they had to avoid the eyes and ears of the Church Court during construction.

It was a nearly impossible task.

"Lauden, take him to get his identity processed. I won’t be going down," Gomez said.

As one of the people in charge of Blake City, he had many matters to attend to daily. Once he confirmed Sean was not a problem and had gone through the necessary procedures, Sean would be free to move about.

Lauden was the man who had just captured Sean. He was still a little unhappy about Sean joining them, but he couldn’t disobey Gomez’s order. He shot Sean a glance, snorted softly, and said, "Follow me."

He walked ahead, leading the way.

Sean followed him down from the city wall and into the Underground City.

As soon as they reached the street, a few girls in Wizard Hats greeted them with giggles.

"Well, if it isn’t Lauden! Long time no see."

"Who’s this handsome guy? Is he new?"

"Lauden, don’t you hate people who are more handsome than you? Why are you personally escorting him in?"

Lauden’s face darkened as he grumbled, "Get lost and play somewhere else. Don’t get in the way of my official business."

’If it weren’t for Gomez’s order, would I be leading the way for Sean?’

Although there was no real deep-seated hatred between him and Sean—their only interaction being the previous misunderstanding—he was still very unhappy. The person he had personally captured had suddenly become a "VIP." Anyone in his shoes would feel resentful.

Sean, meanwhile, asked curiously, "Is Mr. Gomez the City Lord here?"

"No," Lauden said.

There’s no such thing as a "City Lord" in Blake City.

Because aside from Carl Black himself, no one is qualified to be the City Lord.

There are just a few positions divided by level of authority. Gomez is only one of many managers, and his status isn’t the highest. Above him are a few real bigwigs, the kind you almost never see.

Hearing this, Sean couldn’t help but smack his lips. ’It seems Blake City isn’t as simple as I thought.’

’This is a good thing.’

’If Gomez, who isn’t even the City Lord, is already a Grand Mage, then the bigwigs above him can only be more powerful. At the very least, they won’t have to fear a "small family" like the Florists.’

Still, he had many questions about the location chosen for this Underground City.

"If I’m not mistaken, this is underneath Lord Blake’s villa, right?" Sean asked. "Why would you build your base in such a sensitive location?"

Vernadu wasn’t far from Elderidge, the Holy City of the Church. Whether it was here, the Kovri Restricted Area, or Selona City, they were all actually considered part of the "Holy City Environs." Sean had only realized after looking at a map that they had been in the central region of the New World continent all along.
