Sean never would have imagined that he would see Chris in the New World.

It was only a photograph, but it was enough to leave Sean shocked and uncertain.

’Is this Chris the same Chris I know?’

The woman in charge, Lais, noticed Sean’s expression and asked, "You know him?"

With a complicated look, Sean nodded. "He’s my friend."

His mind was a mess. For a moment, he couldn’t tell if this was the Chris from the New World or the Chris from the Real World.

’If it’s the latter, how did Chris get here and leave a trace behind?’

"So you came to Blake City specifically to find him?" Lais asked.

Clearly, she had misunderstood.

But Sean didn’t deny it, instead going along with her assumption. "Miss Lais, can you tell me more about him?"

Lais shook her head gently. "I didn’t know him well. I just knew that there was once such a person in Blake City."

She was mostly in charge of external affairs. If Chris hadn’t failed to return from a mission, she probably wouldn’t have even known his name.

"You could ask around on Back Street, though," Lais said. "He lived there before he disappeared."

"Alright. Thank you, Miss Lais," Sean said.

Lais smiled faintly. "You’re welcome."

With that, she looked at the group. "Everyone, it’s time to drink the potion."

"I hope I’ll be waiting on good news from you."

A few minutes later, after personally supervising everyone as they took the Forgetfulness Potion, Lais and her secretary left the city wall.

Only then did Sean and the others have a moment to give each other simple introductions.

The man who had been trying to persuade him earlier was named Tony, and he was a barber.

The other three men were named Kave, Ryan, and Johnson.

The only girl in the group was named Eleanor.

Without exception, all five of them were Tier Six High-tier Wizards.

You wouldn’t dare accept the mission to assassinate the Saintess if you weren’t at least Tier Six.

In comparison, Sean’s Tier Three Magic Power seemed pitifully weak.

But he didn’t let it bother him too much.

’Sometimes, Tier doesn’t represent strength. I have Forbidden Meditation and the Truth Technique as my trump cards. If I really went all out, I wouldn’t necessarily be that much weaker than Tony and the others.’

Sean wanted to ask for their Wizard titles, which were easier to remember than names and a better way to distinguish everyone’s areas of expertise. But Tony and the others told him—

"We’re only Tier Six. Where would we get exclusive titles from?"

Sean: "?"

"Don’t you get them at Tier Five?"

Tony: "?"

"Are you from the countryside or something?"

Sean: "..."

Tony looked at Sean mockingly. "If you think it’s cool and want to give yourself a nickname, we don’t mind. But I can’t say if anyone else will recognize it."

Only Grand Mages and Wizards of higher Tiers were qualified to have titles.

For example, their leader Lais was called the "Sword of Rose."

And Gomez was called "Gray Moth."

Both of these Blake City leaders were terrifyingly powerful. A Tier Six was still a long way from being compared to them.

That was why he’d said Sean was "from the countryside."

Any "city folk" with a bit more experience wouldn’t have asked what their titles were.

Because they weren’t worthy.

Sean: "..."

’Got it.’

The rules of the New World were different from the Real World.

Or rather, the average level of Wizards in the New World far surpassed that of the Real World.

In the Real World, a place of scarce resources in the Dharma Decline Era, reaching Tier Five through Cultivation was already an incredible feat. But in the New World, during its Era of Polymath, only a Grand Mage could be called "High Tier."

Sean was also realizing that the more he learned about the New World, the greater the differences between the two worlds became. Perhaps the New World was truly just a fictional world born from the Consciousness Riverbed, with no substantial connection to the present-day Real World. This would mean that Kovri City and the Holy Sanctuary had long since vanished from the Real World...

’That’s not good news.’

Sean temporarily pushed the thought aside and said, "I’m going to make a trip to Back Street. Shall we meet up tomorrow?"

He wanted to find out as much as he could about Chris before he had to leave.

"No need to wait for tomorrow. I’ll go to Back Street with you," Tony said.

Kave: "Then let’s all go together, eh?"

"It’s a good chance for us to get to know each other before we set off."

This made Sean a bit embarrassed. He thought his teammates had sharp tongues but soft hearts—that they were offering to go with him because he was new and they were worried he’d get lost. Feeling slightly touched, he said, "There’s no need. I know the way."

In reality, Sean didn’t know the way, but Blake City wasn’t so small, yet not so big either. He could just ask for directions along the way; there was no need to waste everyone’s time.

Seeing that Sean had indeed misunderstood, Tony grinned mischievously. "Hey buddy, you don’t actually think we want to accompany you and be your tour guides, do you?"

"Do you even know what Back Street is for?"

"It’s the trade district."

Also known as the Magic Market.

Basically, any items or Magic Potions a typical Wizard might need can be bought at the Magic Market.

This mission was so difficult, of course they needed to get their "gear" in order. It would be humiliating to get instantly wiped out by the Guards at Hesinra Palace before even seeing the Saintess.

As for why Sean was going to Back Street...

Who cared?

"I didn’t realize you were so narcissistic," Tony said.

Sean: "..."

’Didn’t you say you’d "go with" me?’

’That bastard. He’s doing this on purpose, isn’t he?’

"Who said he’s narcissistic?"

The girl, Eleanor, suddenly spoke up. She shot Tony a defiant look, then grabbed Sean’s wrist. "Let’s go. I’ll take you to Back Street."

"If he won’t go with you, there are plenty of others who will."

Tony: "?"
