The day of the Table of Truth drew nearer and nearer.
Sean still hadn’t heard back from Elvire.
Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought they were giving each other the silent treatment again.
Sean scrolled through his chat history with Elvire more than once. ’I didn’t say anything strange, did I? I didn’t do anything to make her angry, right?’
’So why is she ignoring me?’
Sean was thoroughly puzzled.
She wasn’t answering his calls or returning his texts. If this kept up for a few more days, he could probably post screenshots of the conversation under the title, "A Goddess and Her Simp."
"Could she have gone somewhere special, too?"
Sean couldn’t help but wonder. ’Maybe an Underground City like Blake City, or some kind of Secret Realm?’
He didn’t doubt that Elvire was busy. But even if she was, knowing her, she would have found a moment to reply. It was impossible that she couldn’t even spare that much time. Therefore, it had to be some external factor, like her surroundings.
Theoretically, there weren’t that many "Secret Realms" in the world. Even during the Era of Polymath, only a handful of Grand Mages could create an Otherworldly Space using a Forbidden Spell. Moreover, these spaces were extremely unstable and could collapse into nothingness at any moment. No one would be bored enough to hide treasures inside to create a so-called "Secret Realm." If it collapsed, wouldn’t that be a catastrophic loss?
But considering this was the Consciousness Riverbed, where anything was possible, Sean held on to the theory.
But guessing was pointless. Right or wrong, it didn’t change the fact that Elvire wasn’t responding. This left Sean restless for the past few days, partly annoyed at her "neglect," and partly worried that something had happened to her. He was so distracted he could hardly eat or sleep.
Eventually, Sean figured out why he was always thinking about Elvire.
He was just too idle.
His old self, who had been immersed in Mysticism day and night, would have had no time for such thoughts.
In this life, Sean had little interest in Mysticism—at least, not for now—but he could cultivate his Magic Power.
So, Sean began to practice Meditation in his Meditation World, partly to distract himself and partly to see if he could achieve a breakthrough.
Aided by Forbidden Meditation and Lante’s High-Potency Magic Potions, each Tier represented a qualitative leap for him. Below the rank of Grand Mage, the Tiers were differentiated almost solely by the amount of Magic Power one possessed. Once he reached Tier Four, he figured he could put up a fight against almost anyone, provided they weren’t an Antique Level Tier Six like a Night Watcher or Adelf.
Time flew by in Meditation.
One morning, Ryan woke up early, went out for breakfast, and brought a portion back for Sean. He tossed it on the table and asked his usual question, "You’re not going to class today either?"
Sean stretched and yawned. "Mmm... nope, not going. You guys just go on ahead."
The main reason was that there was nothing for him to learn.
To put it in perspective, if he was a university professor, then Laelando was, at best, an elementary school teacher. Setting aside their personal attainments in Mysticism, and judging solely on the lesson content—forcing a professor to sit through a primary school class was just torture.
Besides, Sean had witnessed Laelando’s "let the master be the teacher" personality. His cold, aloof facade could change in an instant. If Sean were to actually go, there was a good chance it would be him teaching Tony and the others, not Laelando.
He’d rather spend his time and energy figuring out how to pluck the sun from his Meditation World and devour it.
"Alright then, I’m heading out," Ryan said.
Ryan actually found it quite strange. That day, when the black cat—oh, no, Miss White Cat—had come to the restaurant with a message, she had specifically warned them not to be late. This wasn’t a school in the true sense of the word, and Mr. Scholar was under no obligation to teach anyone. Perform poorly in even one class, and you could be expelled on the spot.
But what about Sean?
Sean was the first among their group to be noticed by Laelando and taken on as a student. For him, it wasn’t a question of being late or not—he was skipping class outright, never even setting foot in the church.
And not just once or twice, but every single time.
More than half a month had passed since day one, and Sean hadn’t attended a single class.
And yet, you couldn’t say he lacked ambition. Though Sean didn’t go to class, he didn’t go out to have fun either. He basically just holed himself up in the dorm to practice Meditation, often staying up all night...
It was hard to know what to make of him.
In Ryan’s view, one could practice Magic Power Cultivation anytime, anywhere. As long as you had a spare moment and were sure you wouldn’t run into danger, you could practice Meditation wherever you were.
The Truth Technique, however, was different. Every Wizard knew how precious this opportunity was—it was a once-in-a-lifetime chance.
A Wizard advanced Tiers to increase their strength, and a Truth Technique could do the same—but it was far more effective than simply increasing one’s Magic Power.
At the same Tier, a bit more Magic Power wouldn’t necessarily let you defeat an opponent, but one more Truth Technique could allow you to win with ease. The "Truth" that superseded the twelve great pathways of Magic was no joke. Why else were Mr. Blake and the Holy Sanctuary so powerful back in the day?
Wasn’t it because of the Truth Technique?
When used properly, a Wizard who had mastered a Truth Technique was arguably invincible at their Tier and could even fight opponents of a higher Tier.
Ryan truly could not understand why Sean would give up this opportunity.
And yet, the strict Mr. Scholar didn’t seem to mind at all.
Ryan had tried persuading Sean several times, even using the fact that the Eleanor Sisters wanted to meet him as bait, but Sean still wouldn’t listen. Ryan was out of ideas and had no choice but to let Sean be. ’Perhaps Sean truly had no interest in Her Highness the Saintess and the Knight Order?’
But in reality...
Sean was very interested.
He had already figured out his opening gambit for meeting the Saintess, how to give Her Highness the Saintess an initial show of force, and how to seize the upper hand and take the initiative. He was just waiting for the Table of Truth to begin.
