The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 270 144: "You Should Call Me Great-Grandfather

People always notice things that align with their own expectations first.

"To the Saintess's room?"

Tony was ecstatic for a moment, only then realizing that Diana had invited Sean.

That Sean was the one going to her room.

His ecstasy turned to shock, as if he'd been struck by lightning.

Tony: "???"

It might not be the most fitting analogy, but when he heard Sean's name fall from the lips of Her Highness the Saintess, he truly felt as if he'd been cheated on. He was the one who had taken first place at the Round Table, so why was Her Highness ignoring him—the most dazzling guy in the room—and inviting Sean instead??

Tony didn't understand, but he was devastated.

The many Wizards in the audience were even more shocked and bewildered.

"Wait, did I hear that right?"

"Her Highness the Saintess told Mr. Sean to go to her room, and not to be late??"

"Wasn't this supposed to be about the Knight Order? Can't they talk about it at the ball? Why does it have to be in her room??"

Their concern wasn't who Her Highness the Saintess invited, but *where* she was meeting him.

They had originally speculated that Her Highness the Saintess might need a dance partner for the ball, which was already pushing the limits of their imagination. After all, Her Highness the Saintess was so noble and aloof, never giving any man the time of day. It reached the point where many privately believed she didn't even like men. For her to have a male dance partner would have been a scandal in itself.

As it turned out, the invitation Her Highness the Saintess gave Sean wasn't to join the Knight Order, nor to be her dance partner, but to go to her room late at night!

This was infinitely more suggestive than simply sharing a dance!

"No!"

"I can't accept this!"

"Her Highness the Saintess is pure and chaste! How could she have a private rendezvous with a man!"

"AHHHHH, damn you, Sean! You're not allowed to go! Don't you dare touch our Saintess!"

Many of the Wizards were starting to lose their minds again.

Just moments ago, they were all respectfully calling him "Mr. Sean." The second the Saintess was involved, he immediately became "that damned Sean."

But you really couldn't blame them.

The Saintess, a goddess they had always yearned for and considered an untouchable being for mortals, had just invited a man to her room at night right in front of them. Anyone in their shoes would go crazy.

Elise was also crestfallen, though her focus was different. She murmured, "How could this be…"

"Has Her Highness the Saintess taken an interest in Sean?"

'Then what about me?'

Eleanor's expression was also complex as she gazed from afar at the man at the Round Table, now the center of all attention.

While she wouldn't say she was in love with Sean, she had grown quite fond of him after spending so much time together. She had been agonizing over how to talk to her sister about it, since Eleanor could see that Elise had feelings for Sean, too… Well, this simplified things. If Her Highness the Saintess had truly set her sights on Sean, then there was nothing more to say. Even if both sisters joined forces, they could never win him back.

Diana's two simple, blunt sentences had broken countless hearts.

Only the Lady and her companions were not surprised.

There were two reasons.

First, although Tony's performance today was decent and he certainly had Talent, it wasn't enough to catch the eye of Her Highness the Saintess.

Having been Judges for many years, they were well aware of how high Her Highness's standards were. For her to personally invite someone into the Knight Order, the candidate would need to be at least at their own former level. They wouldn't just have to take first place, but also demonstrate an understanding of Mysticism bordering on a Judge's. Tony, today, was at best the tallest among dwarves; naturally, he wasn't qualified.

Second, they had already suspected that Her Highness the Saintess had very likely worn this gown today for Sean.

Now, seeing Diana invite Sean for a meeting at night, they immediately exchanged a glance. 'As expected!' they thought.

Those vulgar fellows below could only take her words at face value, thinking Her Highness the Saintess had some sort of romantic designs on Sean.

But in reality, the matter was not that simple.

Sean was so young, yet his understanding of the Truth Technique was so profound that even old-timers like them were nowhere close. The only logical explanation was that Sean was a Reshaper who had awakened his memories regarding this part of the Truth Technique. Furthermore, these memories enabled Sean, in the body of a Tier Three, to slap a Grand Mage into the dirt with a single palm. This proved that Sean was not just a Reshaper—his former identity and Tier were also incredibly high. At the very, very least, he was on the same level as the Librarian Laelando.

Her Highness the Saintess must have recognized Sean, which is why she wanted to see him alone.

And so, the Lady and the others all congratulated Sean. Since he was a person of status, they naturally had to exchange some pleasantries. No matter who Sean really was, it was never a mistake to build a good relationship.

"Mr. Sean is as young and promising as they say, to be held in such high regard by Her Highness the Saintess."

"We were planning to ask Mr. Sean for more advice on the Truth Technique after the Round Table, but it seems he won't be free for a while now."

The Lady smiled knowingly. "Since Her Highness the Saintess has personally invited you, we shouldn't keep you. Mr. Sean, you should go change. Dress even more handsomely, and make sure to seize this opportunity."

He did need to change his clothes.

Sean hadn't expected a ball tonight, and he certainly hadn't expected Her Highness the Saintess to be so "proactive." He had just thrown on a formal suit and come over. There was still some time, so if he could change, he naturally would. After all, he was the elegant Mr. Blake.

As for seizing the opportunity…

'Heh.'

Sean sneered inwardly.

So many people were busy envying him for getting a "date" with the Saintess, but they failed to notice the tone of her invitation.

'What kind of invitation is "You're Sean, right? Don't be late"?'

'That's clearly the tone of a command.'

'It was the same when she made me prove that 3=8.'

'I've already confirmed it myself—Diana has seen through my identity. For her to know I'm Carl Black and still dare to speak to me that way… she has no sense of propriety whatsoever!'
