[Mamveth’s POV]
With the heavenly chains locking him firmly in place, Mamveth thrashed violently in an attempt to break free. However, no matter how much brute strength he poured into them, the chains refused to yield; not even the curse: [Maw of Gluttony] could fully devour the spell.
No, that was not entirely true.
It was consuming the chains, steadily gnawing away at their structure — but Ophelia continuously replenished them with an even greater torrent of mana, preserving both their rigidity and form faster than the curse could erode them.
Needless to say, her sheer mana output vastly eclipsed the rate at which Mamveth’s curse could consume it.
Unperturbed, Mamveth decided not to struggle any further.
He looked at Ophelia through the narrow gaps between the white chains wrapped around him; she was staring coldly at him with a rigid, tense expression.
Then, sensing the approaching presence — unmistakably Scholar Ruvian — Mamveth quickly deduced what they were planning to do.
’Are they truly planning to salvage this vessel? Ha! No wonder she had been restraining herself. Though, it was still a futile attempt.’
As soon as that thought crossed his mind, the scholar finally arrived before him, coming to a halt only a few metres away.
Mamveth studied his face for a moment, taking in that darkened expression before his lips curled into a sardonic smile.
"Whatever you’re attempting, whatever brilliant little idea you’ve concocted... it’s already too late. Your friend will never reclaim his body. You would be better off simply killing me along with him. Or perhaps I could spare you the trouble and do the favour myself, if you wish."
His mocking voice reached Ruvian clearly, carrying the same brazen confidence as if the restraints binding him meant absolutely nothing.
In response, Ruvian merely stared at him darkly for several seconds before finally speaking.
"Well, there’s a saying that it’s better to be late than never. But first, don’t ever lump him and me together as ’friends.’ I don’t particularly care what happens to him. In fact, if killing him along with you was enough to resolve everything, I would’ve simply gone with that from the beginning, wouldn’t I?"
Ruvian continued with the charade, maintaining the same cold indifference across his face.
Mamveth laughed derisively and said, "I don’t know... you’ll have to test that first. After all, you said it yourself that you don’t really care about him, right?"
Ruvian seemed to glance at something invisible before him for a brief moment, then shifted his gaze back toward Mamveth.
"Yeah, I really don’t care. But this whole mess happened because of my carelessness. So as much as I despise admitting it, I’m still responsible for this." (+1,000PP)
Slowly, he raised one hand toward Mamveth.
Mamveth laughed again. This time, he genuinely found it hilarious how absurdly confident the puny human standing before him appeared.
"What can you, a fucking weakling human, possibly do to take responsibility?"
Ruvian returned his mockery with a devious smirk.
"By cleaning up the mess that I created." (+500PP)
A moment later, he spoke again:
"[True Authority]"
Instantly, the space around him seemed to clamp shut and Mamveth’s entire body went rigid before a violent tremor tore through him. With the Chancellor’s heavenly chains already shackling every inch of his body, his movements became even more severely constricted!
His muscles seized so completely that he could not even move his jaw. Mamveth’s eyes widened as his pupils contracted into pinpricks.
The Pure Mana permeating the realm was suddenly converging upon the Dark Mana shrouding his body. It bore down upon his curse from every direction, forcing his own power to turn inward and constrict him instead.
’What the hell is going on?’ (+2,000PP)
However, Ruvian was far from finished.
That was merely the first step.

[Ruvian’s POV]
The moment [True Authority] took hold, Ruvian immediately felt the strain tear through his body. His breathing grew heavier, and the arm he had raised began to tremble despite his effort to keep it steady.
After all, the power he was trying to suppress belonged to an S-Rank existence.
Even with Morvayne supporting him from within, maintaining the spell was still far more taxing than he had expected.
His body had already been pushed close to its limit after fighting almost nonstop since yesterday, and he had repeatedly burned through more mana than he should have.
Now, every second he kept [True Authority] active made that exhaustion press down on him even harder.
’No, this is just mind over matter, pain only feels real because I let myself focus on it.’
Gritting his teeth, Ruvian kept his hand raised as his fingers twitched from the pressure and sweat slowly rolled down the side of his face.
’I can do this.’
Calming his mind, Ruvian pushed everything else aside and began focusing on the next spell.
[Time remaining: (03:04)]
In the novel, there was one spell Zian had managed to learn that could directly attack the soul, a Psionic spell known as [Soul Rend].
Rather than harming the body, the spell sent a focused wave of Psionic Mana into the target and struck whatever soul was controlling it.
Depending on how much power was used, it could weaken the soul, disturb its hold over the body, or even tear parts of it apart.
However, a spell that touched the soul was naturally far more difficult than ordinary magic; fire, wind, or lightning only needed mana to be shaped and directed toward something that physically existed, but the soul had no clear form that the eye could see.
The caster first had to sense its presence, separate it from the body and mind, then make sure the spell struck the correct target.
But in this case, there were two souls...
So Ruvian needed to be very careful not to mistake it with Julian’s as [Soul Rend] was extremely dangerous to use on someone possessed by another being.
If Ruvian aimed poorly, the spell might strike Julian instead of Mamveth, or maybe, damage both souls at the same time. Even a small mistake in controlling the Psionic Mana could leave damage that no normal healing spell could repair.
However, it was precisely because of that risk that Ruvian had never planned to use [Soul Rend] itself.
Instead, he intended to create a variation of it, one that followed the same principle without directly tearing into the soul. If his idea worked, there would be no need to risk hurting Julian.
The spell would still target the soul just like [Soul Rend], but its purpose would be completely different.
Rather than damaging the soul it struck, Ruvian wanted the Psionic Mana to wrap around it, disturb its connection with the body, and then force it outward.
In other words, he was not trying to destroy Mamveth’s soul, he was trying to separate it from Julian’s body.
Of course, [Soul Rend] alone could never achieve something like that, which was why Ruvian planned to mix parts of two other spells into it.
[True Authority] would suppress Mamveth’s power and force his soul to obey the pressure Ruvian placed upon it, while [Magic Distortion] would disturb the connection holding his soul inside Julian’s body.
If those three principles could somehow work together, then there was at least a chance he could forcibly tear Mamveth’s soul away without harming Julian’s.
Ruvian slowly curled his fingers as Psionic Mana began gathering around his raised hand, his brow tightening from the strain.
’Alright, let’s give it a try.’
Taking one final breath, he fixed his eyes on Mamveth and invoked the spell he had just pieced together...
