The Nameless Extra: I Proofread This World

Chapter 331: The Battle Over There Finally Ended

The instant Mamveth’s soul shattered, the entire domain began to convulse. Thin fractures spread across the maroon sky as Ruvian’s body finally gave out beneath the strain.

His demonic features receded with [Assimilation], and he promptly fell unconscious.

Ophelia’s eyes widened.

’He actually did it...’

She dispelled her clone, then invoked [Warp] and materialized beside them.

With one arm, she caught Ruvian before he could plummet any farther. With the other, she seized Julian’s battered body and pulled him close. Both scholars were unconscious, but their breathing remained steady.

Another heavy tremor shook the realm, sending the fractures above crawling farther outward; pieces of the maroon sky gradually broke apart and dissolved, revealing the dark, churning clouds of Vazrun Island beyond.

The false landscape beneath them faded soon after, revealing the ravaged ground of the island below.

A biting wind swept across Ophelia as rain began to fall from the restored sky. A moment later, the final remnants of the domain collapsed into nothing.

Ophelia looked at Ruvian once more.

There were many things she wanted to question him about, however, since he was clearly in no condition to provide any answers, it would be better to leave them until he had properly regained consciousness.

[Calyra’s POV]

The upper deck of the Leviathan had descended into chaos as [Protocol: Full Recall] entered its final stage. Violent winds ripped across the ship, lashing Calyra’s white hair against her face while dark storm clouds gathered ominously in the distance.

Most of the scholars had already been taken inside the Leviathan to receive medical attention and proper treatment.

Those who remained on deck were mostly academy officials and instructors, moving among the newly arrived scholars while making certain no one had been overlooked.

Calyra, however, remained on the upper deck. Her hands rested against the railing as her gaze stayed fixed on the dark cloud hanging over the center of the island.

She had no desire to go inside just yet.

A moment later, the sound of approaching footsteps reached her ears.

Calyra did not immediately turn around.

Earlier, several academy officials and instructors had already come to urge her to head inside, so she initially assumed this was merely another one of them.

But this time, the person approaching was someone else entirely.

Silvena D’Elvoire.

Her short emerald hair thrashed beneath the relentless wind as she drew closer. There was a faint trace of concern etched into her expression, though it barely showed.

"I guess things didn’t go the way we planned," Silvena said as she finally stopped beside Calyra before leaning lightly against the railing. "I didn’t expect the test to end just like this."

Calyra didn’t reply, merely casting her a brief glance before turning her attention back toward the island.

Silvena followed her gaze for a moment before looking back at her. The casual ease on her face gradually diminished.

"Anyway, what exactly happened? I thought the two of you had everything under control?"

"I thought the same as well," Calyra fell silent for a brief moment. "But it seems like... the demon was stronger than we anticipated. Far stronger."

Silvena blinked before slowly arching one eyebrow. A faint trace of amusement returned to her expression.

"Huh? If you’re saying that, then it must have been absurdly strong."

Calyra gave a slight nod.

Silvena studied her for another moment, her gaze lingering on Calyra’s otherwise impassive face.

"Are you worried?"

Calyra finally shifted her eyes toward her.

"What?"

"Are you worried about him? Ruvian."

Calyra released a quiet sigh.

"A little."

Silvena smiled as she lifted both arms above her head, stretching them with her usual lazy ease.

"I see~ But don’t worry too much. That guy always seems to have some kind of contingency prepared... and even when he doesn’t, he somehow manages to come up with something."

She lowered her arms and cast another glance toward the island.

"Besides, I saw the Chancellor was with him."

’Right, the Chancellor was there...’

Calyra had seen it herself. When the demon hurled that violent lightning spell toward her and the few scholars nearby — while they were in the sky inside the crimson barrier — the Chancellor had stopped it with almost contemptuous ease.

At the time, after learning that Ruvian had chosen to remain behind, Calyra had briefly considered shattering the barrier and staying as well.

But before she could act on that thought, a message arrived through the [Farscribe].

It was from Ruvian.

He told her to stay put and simply keep watch over Loden.

Though, speaking of Loden...

She hardly needed to do anything. The moment the two of them arrived aboard the Leviathan, Instructor Arveth immediately approached and placed Loden under detention for investigation, acting directly under the Chancellor’s orders.

Surprisingly, Loden offered no resistance.

He merely extended his arm when ordered, allowing the restraint artifact to lock around his wrist before calmly going along with everything as though none of it concerned him.

Remembering that made Calyra sighed again.

’I don’t like that guy... he’s far too weird.’

Before Calyra could dwell on that thought any longer, a sudden commotion rose from the main boarding deck below.

Both she and Silvena turned toward the noise almost at the same time. Leaning slightly over the railing, they looked down to see what was happening.

Four scholars had gathered around one of the academy instructors.

The one standing at the front was a female scholar with ash-brown hair, artfully braided along one side of her head. From the way the others stood behind her, she was clearly the one taking charge.

Silvena blinked.

"Ah... isn’t that Yerin?"

Calyra glanced at her.

"Who?"

"Squad 69’s leader," Silvena replied, resting one arm against the railing. "In other words, Ruvian’s squad."

Below them, Yerin stood directly before the instructor with a tense expression.

"One of our squad members still hasn’t returned," she said, her voice strained despite her attempt to keep it steady. "Ruvian Castelor. He should have been recalled by now."

The three scholars behind her immediately backed her up.

"That’s right. Everyone else from our squad has already been transported."

"We’ve checked twice and he’s still not here."

"C-can you at least confirm whether his bracelet activated?"

The questions came one after another, giving the instructor little room to answer.

"Calm down," the instructor said, keeping his voice firm yet composed. "We are still accounting for every scholar involved in the examination. No one is being overlooked."

Yerin’s brows drew tighter.

"But how long is that supposed to take?"

The instructor exhaled slowly.

"The recall process was interrupted under unusual circumstances. Some scholars may take longer to retrieve, especially if their bracelets were damaged or rendered unusable."

Yerin opened her mouth again, clearly unwilling to let the matter end there.

Watching from above, Calyra could understand why she was panicking.

When the [Protocol: Full Recall] had begun, the scholars had been informed that a high-ranked Voidspawn had interfered with the examination, forcing the academy to terminate it ahead of schedule.

It was, of course, a fabricated explanation.

But it was convincing enough.

A high-ranked Voidspawn appearing on Vazrun Island was more than enough to unsettle the scholars, especially with several of their teammates still nowhere to be seen.

The longer the recall continued, the worse that unease became.

Damaged bracelets were already known to interfere with the evacuation, and with a supposedly dangerous creature loose on the island, it wasn’t difficult for their minds to wander toward far grimmer possibilities.

The instructor was about to answer again when a faint pulse of light suddenly flashed from the transmission device at his waist.

His expression shifted as he quickly reached for it, then raised one hand toward Yerin and the others.

"Quiet for a moment, please. I am receiving a report."

Yerin immediately closed her mouth, though her fingers remained tightly curled at her sides. The other three scholars fell silent as well.

Even from above, Calyra could hear the faint crackle of a voice coming through it.

The instructor listened without interrupting, his brows slowly relaxing as the report continued.

"Understood."

He paused for another second before giving a firm nod.

"Yes, I will inform his squad."

Hearing that, Yerin immediately stepped forward again, but the instructor raised his hand before she could speak.

He lowered the transmission device and looked directly at her.

"Your missing squad member is Ruvian Castelor, correct?"

Yerin’s eyes widened, and she nodded.

"Well then, good." The tension in the instructor’s face eased as he slipped the device back to his waist. "They found him, and apparently, he was with the Chancellor herself."

The instructor continued before she could ask anything else, his voice far calmer now.

"They are already on their way back to the Leviathan, so your squad member should be here shortly."

Silvena, who was standing beside Calyra, smiled faintly.

Then, with a lighthearted tone, she spoke:

"Oh? Looks like....."
