The Natives of This World Are Fierce

Chapter 237 - 234: Attack in Progress

Chapter 237: Chapter 234: Attack in Progress

All combat units received the directive at the same time. With the exception of the reserve action teams in various districts, every operational commander in the areas of the locked-on targets gave the order to strike.

All across Kyoto City, the doors of long-waiting vehicles flew open, and elite, armed soldiers leaped out from their concealed positions.

Mature Soul-possessing Spirits are a type of Yin Spirit, which are indeed difficult for the naked eye to see. However, the host of a Spirit Mother still appears human, making their capture much simpler. As long as the host isn’t killed outright, their body and soul will transform from a shield into a prison, temporarily trapping the larval Soul-possessing Spirits within.

The Spirit Mother would then be taken to the nearest observation point, where experts from the Dawn Association would handle the extermination. Afterward, the body would be sent to the Special Security Team Headquarters for the Crystal Ball Witch to perform a divination.

In addition, mobile tactical teams—which were guaranteed to include Dawn Members—would constantly patrol their assigned sectors. They searched for Spirit Mothers who had left their homes under the cover of night or provided support to the nearest tactical squads. Thanks to the powerful Perception Ability of the Dawn Members, a single team could cover a very large area.

...

In the tactical hall of the Special Security Team Headquarters, at the very moment the command to begin the operation was given.

Su Su formed her right hand into a claw and plunged it into the cage of Magic Power. Her hand, wreathed in boiling Magic Power, instantly clamped down on the disgusting Soul-possessing Spirit.

WHOOSH—

An ethereal flame ignited in an instant.

A piercing shriek rang out. The Soul-possessing Spirit’s voice sounded like a woman in agony and terror, yet it was sharp and laced with a sinister chill.

Despite being prepared, a large portion of the people in the operations hall were still startled by the sound.

Su Su, however, had no time to comfort anyone. As her right hand gripped and burned the Soul-Host Spirit Mother Body, the Crystal Ball before her was also gathering her Magic Power.

The very nature of her Magic Power had changed recently; it had evolved into a special form that inherently carried a precognitive quality. When used in conjunction with her Crystal Ball and a physical sample, her precognitive Ability was greatly enhanced. Furthermore, her Magic Power now emanated a peculiar, unsettling aura.

Within the Crystal Ball, images of the other "eggs" connected to this mother body surfaced rapidly. They appeared both in the mists of the Crystal Ball and in Su Su’s mind, which was linked directly to it.

The constantly flashing images were like dozens of split screens, alternately force-feeding her information.

Previously, Su Su would have been unable to withstand such a massive influx of information. But now, having completed her transformation in body, soul, and Magic Power, she handled it all with ease.

On the control console, fifty-two stylus pens from a large, pre-arranged rack lifted into the air. A second later, they shot toward the large map of Kyoto City, marking fifty-two spots with points of light.

The operators below immediately began inputting commands with incredible speed. The main screen split into fifty-two panes, each one rapidly zooming in until it displayed detailed topography and the names of the surrounding streets and districts.

Through modular command transmissions, it took less than a minute for the fifty-two reserve combat teams closest to the targets to receive their individual attack orders.

...

Outside Yuelan District, the doors of three vans in a distant parking lot suddenly slid open. Fifteen fully-armed soldiers, led by a Special Security Team agent, leaped out.

Several of them were equipped with personal thermal-imaging monoculars, while the others carried night-vision goggles. However, as visibility was still decent, they weren’t wearing them yet.

"Go, go! Assault Plan One."

The sound of muffled footsteps quickly filled the air as two Soldiers immediately took control of the property management’s security office.

The remaining soldiers headed straight for Building 12.

The complex wasn’t large, but it had good landscaping. Four soldiers split into two teams, taking cover behind bushes at the front and rear of Building 12 before activating their thermal imagers.

Ten soldiers crept up to the building’s electronic lock and confirmed with the team in the security office.

"Door’s clear. Code is a five and four hashes."

Hearing the command in his earpiece, the lead soldier punched in the code on the electronic lock.

"BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP. CLICK."

The Door opened. The hallway inside was pitch black.

Although the surveillance team had reported the entrance clear, ten gun barrels were aimed inside the moment the Door opened.

With the exception of the Special Security Team agents, who were extensively trained for encounters with anomalies, the other Soldiers had only theoretical knowledge. None of them had ever seen a real monster before, so a sense of tension was unavoidable.

Sweat beaded on the soldiers’ temples, and they could feel their backs growing hot under their uniforms.

The agent held a suppressed pistol and gestured inside.

"Night vision on."

The soldiers pulled their NVGs down from their helmets and flipped them on. The world before them resolved into a clear, green-tinted view.

They didn’t intend to turn on the hallway lights, nor did they plan to take the elevator.

Leaving two soldiers to guard the elevator doors, the remaining eight crept up the stairwell towards the 10th floor.

Step by step, the eight-man team advanced, silent yet swift.

By the time they reached the doors of the two apartments on the tenth floor, the lining of most of their uniforms was soaked with sweat.

Each man kept his breathing as light and slow as possible, making no superfluous movements, emitting no sound.

The target wasn’t human. It was a man-eating monster—faster than an ordinary person, far stronger, and likely possessing a heightened sense of awareness.

Even elite soldiers were still only human. Hua Country had long been at peace; for their first taste of combat to be against a non-human enemy was intense. But it was in moments like this that their outstanding training and discipline shone through.

They were indeed nervous, but this, mixed with a strong sense of responsibility and the adrenaline pumping through their bodies, created the effect of a combat stimulant.

In front of the Door, the agent pressed his ear against it, listening quietly for a moment.

He pointed to two soldiers and gave the signal to breach. The two men carrying the two-person battering ram moved forward.

The instant the agent’s three-fingered countdown finished, the two soldiers put their full weight behind the ram, slamming it into the lock.

"CRASH."

The Door burst open on the first hit.

Four soldiers immediately stormed in, taking up tactical positions in the living room.

"AHHH—what are you doing?! This is breaking and entering! What do you want?"

A panicked female voice cried out from one of the rooms. The woman screamed the moment she saw what was happening.

Just then, the remaining soldiers outside rushed in.

Through their night-vision goggles, they saw a young woman in pajamas with a slightly swollen belly, her face a mask of panic.

"Target confirmed. It’s Ni Qiaoqiao. Fire!"

Without a word of reply, all the soldiers opened fire simultaneously.

"PFFT-PFFT-PFFT..." "THWAP-THWAP-THWAP..."

The soft sound of suppressed gunfire erupted in an instant.

A pistol, three submachine guns, and four rifles erupted with eight brilliant muzzle flashes. The soldiers positioned below could clearly see the rapid flickering of light in the 10th-floor window.

"AH...!!! ROAR!!!"

Firing in sustained bursts at close range, it was impossible for these elite soldiers—honed by countless hours of training and case after case of ammunition—to miss.

Within half a second, the target, Ni Qiaoqiao, had all four of her limbs shattered by bullets. The sheer kinetic force of the rifle rounds hitting her in succession tore her left leg and right arm clean off her body.

Five seconds later, at the agent’s signal, everyone ceased fire. The doorway between the living room and the bedroom was now splattered with blood.

They flicked on the lights. Ni Qiaoqiao was staring at them, her face twisted in a ferocious snarl. The pajama top over her abdomen had been ripped apart by a feeding organ from within, revealing a terrifying maw that looked ready to devour every last soldier.

The agent and one soldier stepped forward and fired three more rounds into the abdominal organ. The only requirement was that the Spirit Mother remain alive.

At the same time, they slapped a large, specialized adhesive seal over her still-roaring mouth. Considering the creature’s strength, one seal might not be enough, so the agent added two more for good measure.

"Tie tourniquets on its limbs. We’ll search the house."

The male owner of the apartment and his child had, of course, already been killed. Meanwhile, there had been no sound from the neighbors across the hall for this entire time. One soldier knocked on their door and identified themselves as police, but received no response.

When they breached the door with the ram, they found the apartment empty, though there were minor signs of a struggle in the bedroom and living room.

In all likelihood, they too had ended up in Ni Qiaoqiao’s stomach.
