The One King

Chapter 01: Awakening

Chapter One: Awakening

The first thing he felt was silence.

A heavy, suffocating silence—not the peaceful stillness of night, but the kind of silence that came after a catastrophe had swallowed every sound.

The man slowly opened his eyes.

For a few moments, all he could see was a gray haze drifting across his vision. He tried to move his hand and felt a sharp pain shoot from his shoulder to his fingertips.

He tried to raise his body, but failed on his first attempt.

Then he opened his eyes fully.

He was lying in the middle of a devastated battlefield.

Broken stones were scattered in every direction. Trees had been snapped in half. The soil was soaked with blood, and countless corpses of humans and beasts lay lifeless across the ground.

Some bodies had been torn in half.

Others had lost their limbs.

Some had been reduced to little more than scattered remains.

The man slowly pushed himself up and leaned against the trunk of a shattered tree.

He looked around.

He did not recognize this place.

He did not know who these people were.

He did not even know why he was still alive among them.

He frowned.

His mind felt strangely empty.

He tried to recall the last thing he remembered.

Nothing.

He raised a hand to his head.

Suddenly—

Pain.

A violent headache struck him, causing his entire body to tremble.

"Ah..."

He bent forward, clutching his head with both hands.

Then the images began to flood into his mind.

A massacre.

Screams.

Blood.

Faces he did not recognize.

A man running.

A woman screaming.

Beasts charging into the settlement.

Then came other images.

Cities.

Battles.

Mountains.

People dying.

Events he could not determine the age of.

The images came faster and faster, as though decades of memories were forcing their way into his mind all at once.

Then came images that were even stranger.

A world unlike anything he knew.

A starless sky.

An endless land.

Colossal beings clashing with one another.

Armies beyond counting.

Continents stretching farther than the mind could comprehend.

Then—

Everything vanished.

He raised his head.

His breathing was ragged.

"What... is this?"

He looked at his hands.

Then at the ground.

There was something different inside his body.

Something deep.

Something enormous.

Something that did not belong in his current physical body.

He closed his eyes and attempted to examine his condition.

The moment he did, he sensed his soul.

He froze.

His soul was terrifyingly powerful.

Its might was so immense that it felt like standing before an endless ocean.

Yet at the same time, it was exhausted.

Utterly exhausted.

As though it had just endured a battle that had lasted for millions of years.

"My soul..."

He fell silent.

Something was missing.

Too many things.

Memories, knowledge, techniques, secrets, fragments of lives he could not explain.

They were all there.

But he could not access them.

Then something appeared before his eyes.

It was neither light nor an illusion.

It was a translucent screen that only he could see.

[Spiritual stability detected.]

[Soul fragment fusion completed.]

[Soul condition: Stable.]

[Warning.]

[The current soul condition is insufficient to withstand complete memory restoration.]

His eyes narrowed.

"Who are you?"

There was no response.

New words appeared.

[Activating the Eternal Asura System.]

His expression changed.

"System?"

For the first time, a voice answered him.

It was calm, cold, and devoid of emotion.

[Response confirmed.]

[Welcome, Master.]

The man remained silent.

"Who are you?"

[I am the Eternal Asura System.]

[I was created by your First Incarnation.]

His eyes paused for a moment.

His First Incarnation?

He did not understand.

Before he could ask another question, information began appearing before him.

The system explained its functions.

The storage.

The status panel.

System Coins.

Treasures.

Bloodlines.

Weapons.

And then something that made his eyes narrow.

The Asura Domain.

He did not know why, but the name stirred something deep within him.

The system informed him that it was a complete hidden dimension, sealed from the outside world, containing terrifying beings and unimaginable forces.

Then another notification appeared.

[Requirements for activating the Asura Domain Card:]

[Minimum cultivation: Spiritual Emperor Realm.]

He stared at the words.

Then closed the screen.

"I'll reach it."

He said it simply.

As though reaching that level were nothing more than a matter of time.

Yet before he could move, another notification appeared.

[Welcome Gift available.]

He opened it.

[Obtained:]

[10 High-Grade Healing Potions.]

[Asura Domain Card.]

[Supreme Spiritual Herb — Spiritual Lord Realm.]

He took one of the healing potions.

After examining it for a few seconds, he drank it.

Within moments, the injuries covering his body began to disappear.

His wounds closed.

The bleeding stopped.

His broken bones returned to their proper positions.

His skin became flawless once more.

Within less than a minute, his body had returned to perfect condition.

He looked at his hand.

Then clenched his fist.

"Better."

He consumed the spiritual herb.

The spiritual energy inside his body surged violently.

Seventh Level of the Spiritual Warrior Realm.

Then—

Peak Spiritual Warrior Realm.

Without stopping, he broke through the bottleneck.

Spiritual Lord Realm.

His cultivation continued rising.

First Level.

Second.

Third.

Fourth.

Fifth.

Sixth.

Seventh.

Finally, it stabilized at—

Eighth Level of the Spiritual Lord Realm.

He opened his eyes.

The surging energy gradually settled.

He examined his body.

It was far from satisfactory.

But it was not bad either.

He then turned his attention to the Asura Domain Card.

He attempted to activate it.

[Activation failed.]

[Current cultivation is insufficient.]

[Minimum requirement: Spiritual Emperor Realm.]

His eyes narrowed.

He had to reach the Spiritual Emperor Realm first.

Only then could he enter the Asura Domain.

Only then could he begin reclaiming what had been left behind.

But before he could move, the headache returned.

This time, it was weaker.

An image appeared.

A man.

Then it vanished.

A city appeared.

Then vanished.

Then he heard a distant voice.

"The Council..."

His eyes opened.

He tried to grasp the thread.

He extended his consciousness toward fate and karma.

Suddenly—

Boom!

His consciousness slammed into an invisible barrier.

He staggered back two steps.

His expression changed.

The barrier was powerful.

Far too powerful.

Even with the experience he possessed from his past, he could not easily penetrate it.

He tried again.

This time, he saw something.

Only two words.

God.

Council.

Then everything was severed.

He remained standing for several moments.

His crimson eyes became cold.

"So someone is hiding the truth."

He did not know who the God was.

Nor which Council.

Nor why his soul had been divided.

Nor who was responsible for the massacre surrounding him.

But he knew one thing.

He needed power.

A tremendous amount of power.

He cast one final glance across the ruined battlefield.

Then turned and walked away.

He did not know where he was.

He did not know where he was going.

But he knew his first goal.

Reach the peak of the Mortal World.

Only then would he have the power to protect himself.

Only then could he begin searching for the answers.

And eventually...

He would find whoever was behind everything.

And he would have his revenge.
